Very educational! People have a tendency to confuse/conflate ethnicity with religion a lot. People assume Jews are European/white quite often, for instance, despite the religion originating in the same area as Islam, or think that every Buddhist is Asian.
Yeah, but it's a different case for Jews. The word itself is used to refer to an ethnicity, separate from the religion. It's often Ashkenazi Jews who are singled out in this conversation, because other Jewish diasporas have different names (Mizrahi being called Arab Jews etc), and thus there is a close association between being Jewish and Eastern European. I wouldn't call it much of a conflation, as many Jewish people refer to themselves as such, regardless of religious status, and seem comfortable in doing so.
@@dudeguy8553it's still refers to the ethnicity that isn't and was never separate from the religion it's an ethnoreligion (like Druze and Samaritans). @@user-kb8zv5ob2q Yes, I know. I was referring to the fact that there is a very large number of non-religious Jewish people, and another (albeit much smaller) group of people who are not ethnically Jewish, but identify with the religion. You're wrong about Ashkenazi Jewish people though. A large number of them are ethnically European, or their ancestors have been in Europe for a very long time. Many Jewish communities have existed in Europe, at the very least since the 10th century. Keep in mind, there is a large degree of variance here, depending on each person. Some have more Middle Eastern contribution to their ancestry, others the other way around. Also, what? Most Middle Eastern people are not white or pale. Maybe you mean people form the Levantine, but even then that'd be dishonest, since it's a very diverse region. I am from Jordan, so anecdotally I can testify to that.

Like I wrote earlier if you join the Jewish nation you are Jewish exactly like people who were born Jewish so your race doesn't matter also there were very few converts to Judaism in Europe in the middle ages because it was illegal and if you joined Judaism you were considered as a second class citizen 3. Yes I meant the Levant but also everywhere north of the Levant (like Turkey and Kurdistan) and most Levantine people who have darker skin tone tone are Muslim because Muslim married people from Africa, the Arabian peninsula and South Asia who are darker but Druze, Jews, Christians and Samaritans tend to be more pale because they didn't and only married between themselves

Also when Ashkenazi Jews call themselves European they don't mean ethnically but they mean they or their family live or lived in Europe (like Black and White Americans call themselves Americans but they don't mean that they are Native Americans) and white just refers to the skin tone (most Middle Eastern people are white or pale)
@dudeguy8553 1. Non-religious Jews are still Jewish (in Judaism they are considered like people who are part of the Jewish nation but don't act according to the Jewish law unlike Christianity where you have to believe in Jesus to be Christian Judaism is just like a set of rules you have to abide as a Jew but if you don't you are still Jewish like if you are part of a tribe and you don't worship the god of the tribe you are still part of the tribe) and people who convert to Judaism are called גרים and they are considered as people who join the nation
2. Like I wrote earlier if you join the Jewish nation you are Jewish exactly like people who were born Jewish so your race doesn't matter also there were very few converts to Judaism in Europe in the middle ages because it was illegal and if you joined Judaism you were considered as a second class citizen
@@user-kb8zv5ob2q Oh yes, then we are on the same page here. I tried to point it out to show the distinction between Islam and Judaism.
I can attest to what you said about Christians. I live in the area of Jordan with the most Christians, and they are often whiter. It's diverse though, like I said. That’s actually why I like to distinct Classical Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic. Classical Arabic is highly associated with the Qur’an. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that it was also influenced by the Qur’an (like the Recitation-styles cemented the difference in colloquial grammars and became consensus; Lisaan Al-Arab is the reference to the meanings, so if you understood the Khuff to be something like clogs, the companions understood it as something that covers the feet even if it wasn’t thick, a more general description that includes socks; newer definitions “deviated” from including socks leading to differences of opinion regarding that ruling in ablution).
In general, there is a very high likelihood for “Arab” to be “Muslim”. The converse isn’t as probable as you’ve mentioned.

EXACTLY!! It makes me nuts that people think Muslim = Arab.
According to world population review, China has 50 million Muslims which brings it above Algeria… so in the top 10 only 2 are Arabs… but those are nations, so it’s wrong to say that Arabs are not the majority… because the Arabs are 450 million, yes they are only 25% of the Muslim community around the world, they are the biggest ethnicity among muslims but less than 25% of Islam…
it's actually not wrong to say that arabs aren't the majority bc majority means over 50%.
This remind me of the video about an American guessing the nationality of a Lebanese

@@cartooncatboy3009I don't know why my previous comment got deleted but what I basically said was that you need to read up on history, it is illogical for an army of 3000 people to completely ethnically displace or eradicate 4-6 million people. @@CommentinoCommentoniMost Turks are not Islamic. And don't want to be. Especially the young people. Once the older population starts dying off in Turkey, so will Islam.
I think it’s important to measure the percentage of Muslims of the whole population in different countries. When people associate Arabs with Muslims, I think one main reason is the percentage of Muslims of the whole national population in Arab countries. Using straight numbers sometimes is not that accurate as it also varies directly with the total population size of a country (as in India). So maybe using percentage would be better.
pakistan iran. turkey are 98+% muslims. more than the majority of arab countries.
indonesia is 88%.
only india where the muslims are the minority
Here's the thing, saying India is a "Muslim Nation" implies heavily that the laws that govern the people are derrived from the Koran and Hadiths. So it a country with a lot of Muslim people but it absolutely isn't a Muslim nation.
I believe Indonesia also falls into the category of a nation that had many Muslim people but isn't a Muslim nation. It is a Representative Democracy that tries REALLY hard to be neutral.
Kind of surprised that you are mixing words here.
Yeah he misspoke there. Not sure about the others but Türkiye is also Muslim-majority but not a Muslim country in the sense of the law
Yeah agreed. Also, I wanna add Pakistan, Egypt and few other countries too. Tho they have majority of muslims and muslims rule them, their law is "democracy" and they don't follow the monarchy or Sharia.
Indonesia is also not a Muslim country
Sure the majority of the population is Muslim, but since it doesn't apply Shari'ah laws (except for Aceh) it's not exactly a Muslim country
@@ThatdudeAry I did mention that but I wasn't 100%.
If that's the way you're looking at it then there are no Muslim countries. If you mean to say that having any laws derived from Quran and Sunnah makes it a Muslim country then both Indonesia and India become Muslim countries. And so do many western countries, like the US. Islam has had a bigger influence on the world than people realize, and numerous ideas were borrowed from Muslims by Europeans, including some rules of law.
You got it right
