Very cool little test. You and I are old enough when cell phones weren’t a thing. I distinctly remember using my watch to wake myself up as a kid. I have to imagine most people use their phones now. Thanks for running the test though!
Fascinating results! 👌 I had noticed that my W-217 seemed to be louder than my other Casios, and had attributed this to the large hollow cavity between the display and the lens. Thanks so much for conducting this test! 🙏
Ok, now I definitely don’t believe in coincidences anymore. I swear to was preparing a video on the same, exact topic. With a similar format. Thanks for this video!!!
Love the idea of the video! I'm not surprised that the G-Shocks performed poorly. With all of the material to protect the case/module, it doesn't shock me all that much.
No pun intended…nice Friday humor. It never stood out to me that high WR would correlate with lower volume and the G-Shock design seems to put the last nail in the ‘quiet alarm’ coffin. I’ll contact you today about the next live show. Raining here. Likely a complete wash-out for my work.
Interesting comparisons, I bought a F 91 for my wife and accidentally the alarm was set at 12:00 midnight. It is loud. Lately I have been wearing my W767 to bed to see if the vibration alarm will wake me up. Some times it does, so I know I can’t depend on it, but I find it very comfortable on the wrist and I like that the illumination is great and the digits are large so I can make out the time in the dark without my glasses.
cxool. would never rely on a watch to get up. whatever model it was to the f 91in the mid to late 80s, that woke me up. nowadays, my phone. miss those radio alarm clocks on my bedside lol
They're ridiculously quiet.... I thought mine wasn't working at all, until I researched it on watchuseek....then I found that it's a thing with metal g-shocks. Same goes for most solar watches too..... very quiet alarms.
i read somewhere that the g shock-solar moduls are quiter then others, because of the juice they get from the solar cell in comparsion to a battery driven one. u can also hear different g shock models are louder than others (battery/solar driven) my gw 5610 is much quiter than my older dw 9052 fe.
This is super interesting! I used to work in loud engineering environments so I dont think my hearing is as sharp as it once was there are certainly some of my watches that are louder than the other ones. I wonder how if you say have 10 F91w's the reading would deviate. I love the Greyman but I know its not the loudest so I am going to go with the W217H! Seems like the more material on the case the lower the sound level. The DBC32 is popping off though! Its probably because of the bend in the case back that maybe isn't as watertight as the others on this list. I agree with you on the vibration... I learned another trick from a friend regarding the vibration alarm though. If you take the watch of and put it in an empty glass it would make enough of a sound to wake you! Hope you have a fantastic weekend Bro!
This was an interesting topic, more questions than answers at this point. It was interesting to see what looks like a correlation between WR/G-Shock and volume. I’ll try the w736 in an empty glass…on my wife’s side of the bed and see what she says. I’ll be sure to tell her it was your idea. Take care my friend. Recharge over the weekend if you can.
@@Realidealgear It certainly is! What? She is going to hate me haha! Try a 60 second timer and see what you think! Much appreciated brother! My mother was discharged yesterday and she seems better and the wound has improved a lot. ! Its a move in the right direction and to God be the glory for that! We are still taking care of her for now until she is back on both feet! Take care and be blessed my friend! 💪💪
Great review, as scientific as you need. I used to have the very popular GW-M5610, which was very quiet, but the 1984 made DW-5200 G shock is quite piercing to listen to. Which is why I was so surprised at the quietness of the GW-M5610. Today, I received the AE-1500 and thought it quite loud for my 61 year old ears....not sure if it would wake me up, though.
Based on what you said, it makes sense that the G-Shock's are more dampened with the sound, simply because the module in a G-Shock is encased In a thin rubber sleeve, if you will.... so obviously that must help to dampen the sound quite a bit
@@Realidealgear .... I've been wearing Casio for about the past seven years.... I've always known about Casio but never really got into them... I was wearing Armitron for a number of years, but I switched over to Casio and personally wouldn't own anything else... There is absolutely nothing I don't like about their watches.... I particularly like the rugged style looking ones.... i'd like the G-Shock's however I don't feel or have the need for any.... the only G-Shock I have is the classic 5610.... but most of them are built so rugged you really don't need the G-Shock... The TRT-110 is my favorite
The regular Casios are PLENTY tough for all but the extreme circumstances. The 5610 is one of the best sized and feature rich G-Shocks. I'm not familiar with the TRT110...I'll be looking into that one. Take Care!
Thanks for the video. I'd suggest a holder for the phone as well as the watch, so you have two fixed points and the distance from the watch is always the same. If distance varies, even by a small amount, the comparison isn't really valid. Interesting readings though. Thank you
Good point how we, the variation was within a two inches for only the demo watch (W800). The test were all on a foxed stand and the camera was fixed. When I performed the demo on the W800, the was no statistical effect that moved it out of the place it was ultimately placed. (I did four demos w the W800 before the recording and the recording included two more for a total of 6 trials). It was an interesting experience. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great weekend!
That seems to align with the 100m WR and higher generally making for quieter alarms. Thanks for the additional info. Have a great weekend and take care!
Gr8 video Tim superb content you should try out Casio CA 506 old module 437 and A159w JdM model from the early 90s they are suprise packages amazingly loud
Man. I wish I slept solid enough that a watch alone wouldn’t wake me up. Even my boys’ watches in their rooms wake me up when their alarms go off! Great topic & interesting result with the G-Shocks. I’ve got to compare my watch alarms now!
I just tested all my watch alarms & got similar results as you. I realized I’ve never used the one on my Garmin Instinct. I was pleasantly surprised that I can turn on a “vibrate only” mode! The more I use this watch, the more I like it.
It’s a not something I thought about in the past. I just went along with the Casio Pathfinder alarm as being sufficient. Like you, it doesn’t take much for me to wake up. Then I heard the W217 alarm…and I noted this is my idea book for this channel. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care.
I’m convinced that the vibrate alert is the way to go with all Casios or digital watches for that matter…with the exception for waking up. I’m not certain I’d wake up to a vibrating watch.
The GD350 ..it is a good vibe alert but i never trusted it to wake me up. I think it might be because it is coin battery cell powered and the smart watches like the Pixel,Apple and Garmin have a rechargable higher capacity cell, giving a stronger vibration. Interesting that the F-91W is a loud alert , i've never tried it, but it is considered a God Tier watch by many.
If your watch has an alarm at all, then it has a countdown timer. It's just not as easy to use as a "real" countdown timer, because you have to use a little mental math to make it work.
Good to know. This was an interesting inquiry that surprised me once I organized the table by loudness. I wouldn't have put those qualities together. Have a great weekend.

True, cell phones have absorbed numerous technologies. It was interesting to see how design influenced volume. Have a great weekend.
No smartphones for me....i have a squad of GW5000/GWM5610 doing that job😊

Thanks for these efforts ! Definitely helpful for those who’re looking for watches with loud alarms.
It was an interesting dive into volume and watch design/features. Have a great weekend.

How times have changed. I used to rely solely on my watch alarm to wake me up...I usually set a couple alarms.
Anecdotally I have noticed that the metal gshocks are quieter compared to their resin counterpart.
Another reason to get more Casios!! Thanks for the info.

Nice to see that Timex can pull off high water resistance and a decent alarm.
Agreed. The Ironman is growing on me. The review of that watch is on Tuesday
Timex Ironman watches could still wake me, Casios or G-Shocks not so much. I like both brands but for alarm I use the Timex.

When I had only one Casio (PRW6600 Pathfinder) I had no basis for comparison for a couple decades. It was an interesting inquiry into Casios.
