    Signs like this make me think alot of the animations were made on one guy with one type of gun and then no adjustments were made to compensate when said animation is used on any other character with any other gun.
    Then there's the infamous "shrinkwrap" effect on limbs which typically occur when bones on a character rotate way too far, sometimes caused by an issue known as gimbal lock. I guess somebody doesn't know how to leverage quaternion rotations properly.

    • @YZaiCreates
      @YZaiCreates 7 років тому +8

      Dessert Monkey the entire animation system in the game seems rushed. facial animation is almost entirely just the standard eye movement (with rather extreme eye movement for when talking to sam) and then just slap on automated lipsyncing. occasionally they'll do some actual hand crafted or mocap work, like on character introductions, but in general it's almost all automated rough drafts

      Yeah, ME3 had this same problem front and center. Sometimes, I would go with an Avenger/Predator load out so that the cutscenes didn't take me out of the game so much. ME2 also did to a point.

      The Apollo 13 crew were cold, hungry and tired but even they knew how to avoid gimbal lock.

    Most of these don't bother me, but unless this game features Mister Fantastic, 0:34 is seriously unforgivable. That should be as embarrassing as leaving a boom mic in a shot for your movie trailer.

  • @sulik6228
    @sulik6228 7 років тому +20

    i think one can forgive some minor clipping here an there, but here it just happens way too often.
    really hope they will fix this. its one thing if it happens a few times in the playthrough and you can shrug it off but not if it happens every other minute.
    of course no amount will fix the shitty face anims and the crungy dialogues
    also WTF is this at 0:35 holy fuck bioware is this paper mass effect?

      I've never been bothered by clipping at all in games. Is it really that big of a deal?

    • @YZaiCreates
      @YZaiCreates 7 років тому +6

      Jiggie not really, most clipping is fine, but it's just one of the cavalcade of terrible animation in a game that's hinges entirely on its characters feeling believable and interesting. the fact that they can't even cherry pick stuff for the trailer without having it packed full of issues because the entire game is full of issues. it never looks good.

    I don't get it. After Three games and 10 solid years people would stop being surprised that Mass Effect games have bad animations. I love the series dearly, but if you expected Bioware to suddenly Facial Rigging, you might be expecting too much.

    I'm enjoying mocking this game and all the corners they cut in basically letting the team that did the Muliplayer of ME3 make the rest of the new game because clearly, it's just solid action and fun powers with really stupid character modeling problems dragging along with all the talky bits. Unfortunately, the Internet's gotta enable freaks to attack people without ever leaving their basement because their action dating sim isn't as polished as they want it to be.
    Like the Bioware of the original Mass Effect's dead. This is essentially a new team propping its corpse up to distract you that its entirely different people so they could maybe make their own image of bioware and move on from that. And I'm not entirely sure why we gotta respect even the old incarnation this much to harass some woman who programmed character models for maybe a year into an already 4 year old project.

    The Witcher 3 had some animation issues before. I don't remember an angry crowd crying about it for weeks however..
    Every game has some issues. Mass Effect Andromeda might not have the best facial animations out there, but the game is alright. I've seen far worse than this in many other games. I think I can deal with this :p
    I still hope they'll patch how the characters hold their guns during cutscenes, because once you notice it.. it looks a bit off. But I wouldn't think too much about such small issues. If you create a giant game like this you are bound to release it with some glitches. Remember Skyrim? Gothic 3? Those games had hundrets and more (Gothic 3 had 3000!) glitches at release, many of them were quest or even game breaking.
    If the only thing we have to worry about in MEA is an animation issue here and there.. then Bioware did a good job.

    • @nyx2903
      @nyx2903 7 років тому +1

      They are not doing this "constantly", my trolling little friend.

    • @WFoong98

      TBF here, it's not whether there will be clipping or not in game, but this is trailer to make good impression on viewers and they are not doing a very good job.

    • @nyx2903
      @nyx2903 7 років тому +1

      It didn't? Personally I haven't noticed any of these issues before I saw this slow motion video here. If you are nitpicky you can find something wrong in any game trailer I think.. as long as it is in engine.
      But people usually don't do this to other game trailers. Personally I think a lot of people just bash Mass Effect Andromeda for the hang of it, while others are still "angry" about the ending of ME3. These people just want to hate on Mass Effect, and many of these people are the same that still complain about ME3's ending under every Mass Effect video or social media post.
      There might be issues, but I've yet not seen anything fatal. And to be honest: Horizon Zero Dawn is also not known for it's great facial animations. They might look better as the ones from MEA in some cases, but not by a lot.
      It's kinda odd that I'm sitting here, defending MEA. I was never really hyped for this game, and I was very sceptical about it. Actually, many ME-fans started over the last couple of years their flame wars with be because I wasn't hyped, and rather sceptical about the game. But now I've played it and I didn't see anything gamebreaking in my time with the game. I enjoyed the campaign so far.. and I was ready to hate it before I got my hands on the game. Unfortunatelly I couldn't find anything worth hating in this game..

      @YZaiCreates 7 років тому +5

      Gray Fox | Gaming I personally don't think your comparisons hold water. while I do certainly assume people go overboard, and that there are games with worse animation, that's not an excuse. just because it's not as bad as some of the worst doesn't mean it's not bad animation, especially since it looks worse than even mass effect 1 (same level of facial animation, but much worse body animation). if you see a company take a huge step back in quality, then it should be talked about.
      as for your comparisons to specific games, these are often not taking into account what those games do. the witcher 3 (which actually has better animation than me:a) lived on its writing and quest design. it's fine if it's not the best at some things if it's amazing at other things. the writing in me:a, while not the worst in the world is pretty weak I'm comparison, so it can't even rely on that to prop it up.
      skyrim isn't even trying to be a character based, story focused game, they've got completely different goals and styles. yeah skyrim has bad animations because they're not even trying to make them good. it doesn't matter if they're bad because skyrim is about having a huge sandbox with a bunch of different quests and activities and environments. it harks back to daggerfall while mass effect harks to baldur's gate. the same can be said for gothic which also has a much much smaller budget than mass effect. also you act as if people didn't make a fuss about the glitches in skyrim and gothic. glitches is one of the things gothic is famous for, and the same can be said for skyrim among the gaming enthusiast crowd as everyone looks at it and goes "welp better slam every mod I can into it because this thing is broken as hell."
      mass effect andromeda doesn't excel at anything so when something particularly bad about it is present at all times throughout the game, it stands out way more. we shouldn't ever settle for mediocre and neither should the people making it. I guarantee you most of the dev team look at the animations and are not happy at all with what they managed to produce. it's incredibly rough like they didn't have time to flesh out any of the animation systems.
      I don't blame them too much, since with a 5 year dev cycle, clearly something when badly wrong and this was just mismanaged, but that doesn't mean we should give them a pass.
      also I'm not mad about the mass effect 3 ending. I actually thought it was alright, and the rest of the game was pretty stellar for the most part.

    • @HunterRodrigez
      @HunterRodrigez 7 років тому +2

      witcher 3 had some minor animation issues but it looks good where it counts... in the facial animations...
      and on top of that Witcher 3 was the third game by some pretty small polish developer
      Mass Effect Andromeda was made by nothing but Industry veterans and had much bigger budget than Witcher 3, yet all the characters look and act like Sophia the Robot (google it)
      i mean hell even the first mass effect game looked better than this shit and it came out 10 years ago
      seriously this is Oblivion levels of bad animation

  • @Lkjhgf5482

    Something Andromeda adds is ambient animations, like eyes moving and blinking. This is something new for the series/engine, as it was not present in Inquisition. The animations seem to be the weakest link of the game, and that's okay. I see these poor animations as a stepping stone to better things, much like shadows in GTA V on PS3 or Xbox 360. Sure, they may not look good now, but once tech changes the studio will already have a notion of what to do next. Alternatively, one could just haphazardly ridicule something they don't understand about a game they may never play. Then again, I've always been somewhat of an optimist.

      "Something Andromeda adds is ambient animations, like eyes moving and blinking."
      Excuse me? Characters have been blinking in their games the entire series. Look up dialogue from any scene in the first ME game and you'll see "eyes moving and blinking."
      "This is *something new* for the series/engine,"
      Lol, are you joking right now?
      "as it was not present in Inquisition."
      The character animations looked better overall in Inquisition, and yes they had "eyes moving and blinking."
      Also,
      "I see these poor animations as a stepping stone to better things"
      You could say this about the first ME/DA games, but to say that about Andromeda when they already made a full game with the Frostbite engine that *looks better than this one* you can't give the excuse of them using a new engine. It would be acceptable in a pre-alpha build, sure, but not for a game that's almost in stores.
      They've spent five years making the game. If Bioware can't get basic stuff like scripted and idle animations looking good in that time, maybe they need to change the way they do things.
