    4:03 "There's a little red car goin' right here.." LMAO That is classic Huell. He had such innocent enthusiasm combined with the politeness of a friendly neighbor. His southern accent gave a sense of genuine hospitality and he wasn't a stranger to anyone. Thanks for uploading these episodes so his show can continue to be enjoyed.

    Having a dedicated volunteer is a priceless gift for any country forward-looking country. Unlike governments with big budgets and resources, volunteers knew their locality and what it needed, they knew their capacity, they had collective knowledge and skills, and they knew what could work and what couldn't. Above all, they are like-minded and looking for something better. All these elements are part of this group. I can tell, this guy has a happy and supportive family. Excellent work!

    Huell could get excited about anything that he was talking about , trains , Ghost towns , prospecting, anything and everything that he saw that was Historic , he became enthralled and enthused . R . I. P . HUELL " I Wish More People Would Be Like Him To Learn About What Is Around Themselves instead of Sitting Around Doing Nothing Or Causing Trouble ."

    Wish I had known about this layout when stationed in San Diego while in the Navy! This was in the late '50's and I would have spent a lot of time visiting this. Here's hoping this layout lasts a LONG time for my grandchildren to enjoy.

    One of my favorite resting spots during the LA country fair in Pomona also home of the NHRA drag races starts and ends in Pomona. The model train layout is so beautiful all lit up after dark so nice to give your legs and feet a break enjoy a nice cold beverage wonderful attraction to look forward to every year at the fair. Huell Howser was an awesome guy a huge loss to all of us RIP buddy.

    I visited this railroad fifty years ago in the 1960s. In those years before Amtrak, they had exact replicas of Southern Pacific's streamlined Sunset Limited and Shasta Daylight passenger trains, and a clever replica of a drive-in movie theater, that used an operating television set as the "movie screen."

      Back then it was standard scale and all painted and plated brass. Much nicer than LGB.

      I was 6 when my Dad 1st took me to the Fair in 1957 and apparently there was some difficulty prying me off the fencing surrounding this exhibit. I have never failed to stop by the dozens of visits over the last 60 years but this was my 1st 360 degree view of the layout. I remember the TV "movie screen" and at 1 point some of the delivery vans were motorized and made loops through the town.Various PV companies put their names on the trucks.

    Hard to believe Huell has been gone over 11 years. His reports helped tie us together in California at some basic level. I've read that after he did a show on a place that business or visitation increased a great deal. So, he had a positive effect on things right away. Some places he visited 20 years ago still herald that visit with posts, signs or references to it on their menu or websites. I'm still waiting for the Huell Howser memorial parades or Huell Day in the state.

    When I was a kis in the 1950s, the highlight of my year was a tripto the Pamona fair to see the trains. I still enjoy trains , but I now live in Olympia, WA, and I'm not able to get down to LA any more.

      I' m planning to go to Pomona to see the steam locomotives and the antique passenger cars. If you remember when the Santa Fe Railroad used equipment like that, then you should be proud of it.

    Was this taped in the early 2000s?

    • @ecoRfan
      @ecoRfan 2 роки тому

      Fair dates September 13-29, and he mentions control technology “into the 2000’s”. Judging by those dates, it would have been taped in 2002.

  • @ldlink3935
    @ldlink3935 3 роки тому

    Was this recorded in the 1990's ?

    • @ecoRfan
      @ecoRfan 2 роки тому

      2002 judging by the one guy interviewed saying about technology “into the 2000’s” and the September 13-29 fair dates.

    You're right Huell Howser; that is a beautiful garden railroad. 13 is an unlucky number. That's the year you were reported dead. I don't believe anybody about anything. I don't consider you dead unless I see the body.
