People really have slept on AoC. The game is fun and the music is every bit as good as a mainline Zelda. You can tell a lot of care went into making the game. I would love to see more from AoC.
I think the main and I guess only complaint people had was the fact that the trailers were just really misleading (with the whole alternate timeline thing), but yeah it’s really great aside from that, and the gameplay is really fun
@@slurpyfusionyoutube3775 I know a lot of people were upset about the misleading advertising. I played the demo and was upset about the time travel. I don't like time travel, at all. I enjoyed the additional content, seeing Hyrule as it was, getting to know the Champions better, seeing how the Calamity happened. I can see why the devs went in the direction they took, but I still think it would've been more successful if they had stuck to the original story of the Calamity.
You may be able to answer a burning question, since I have not played it. There is a "terrace" theme or something that plays basically the main 4 note theme from AOC. And I think it has something to do with time travel. Someone theorized that the TOTK final trailer opening (which now we know is the ending theme related to the big bad guy, *Spoilers), had something to do with time travel as well. And the game kinda does. So I'm curious if there's any connection or things I should look into.

“the knight who seals the darkness” is my personal favorite somewhat official epic version of the main theme, it feels so good in game
This. This is one of the finest tracks from AoC, it gives me chills. It’s essentially missing from BotW and TotK. Whenever I’m testing a new pair of earbuds, headphones or speakers I see how this track sounds on them.

Age of Calamity is freakin underrated masterpiece. It has amazing story, great cutscenes, superb ost, solid gameplay and awesome voice acting. Sad there's no Musou game based on TOTK
TBF AOC came out 4 years after BotW.
It's only been a year since TotK so if they are going to make one, it may be a bit still.

The music from "Age of Calamity" is waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than it has any right to be! Like... Seriously. The best OST the Zelda series has produced in, at the very least, the last decade, comes from a frigging fan fiction spin-off game... I will never be able to get over that...
Fun fact, the main composer was Kumi Tanioka, the same woman who composed the music from "Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles".
If you ever do a part 2 to this, I’d love to see you react to/analyze some of the battle themes - specifically with some of the champions music. One super interesting thing I noticed is that the battle music for revalis theme, which is 3/4, is modified to fit 4/4 when it’s combined with urbosa’s battle theme (there’s a part in the game where you have to save two champions at a time). I’d love to see if there’s any other cool details like that within the battle music

I loved Age of Calamity and the music was a big part of that. I especially love the progression of Overlooking Hyrule as you play through the game. And just being able to experience another story related to BotW in a combat system I enjoyed was great. I know some people were disappointed by the direction/marketing of it, but for me it's one of my favorite Zelda games/spinoffs. Loved seeing your reactions to the music and breaking down music theory and references.

AoC OST didn't need to be so good, it goes absolutely nuts in how it reinterprets some of BotW tracks.
I LOVE what they did to Lost Woods to make it a battle theme, it gives me all the chills 🤩

Wow, i thought you were gonna listen to so many of the tracks from all the levels, and yet you found SO many references in just the map music that I hadn't noticed! I don't know how i hadn't picked up the Lullaby themes - they're worked in so well!
Overlooking Hyrule (all versions) is a great piece, for sure, but only one example of how amazing the score in the game is. From the actual theme to the reprises of the BotW Champion themes, from the Champion themes turned into battle music, to the actual Legend of Zelda theme used in possibly its best rendition since the 25th and 30th Anniversary symphonies when Link aquires the Master Sword. All the music is great.
Great analysis as always! I don't know if you've listened to the rest of the soundtrack, but you would be mindblown... These are just the map themes, where you select your quests.
Suggestions are the four champions' themes, the two ''Worlds Converge'' themes, "Assault", "The Knight Who Seals The Darkness", ''Hold The Line'', ''Battle of Liberation'', ''Rescue Operation'', ''The Time Traveling Guardian's Plight'' are all amazing.

Well, there are so many! But to name a few I would definitely recommend the remixed versions of the Champion’s themes from Breath of the Wild, there is definitely some great work there, as well as “Hero that Seals the Darkness” another really good and enjoyable chart, it finally gives Link a sort of ‘theme’ I would say. But these are mainly my suggestions and there are so many other themes and music that I can't name off the top of my head. Obviously, this is mainly my opinion, and I would most certainly look into other people’s suggestions too, or do a little digging of your own. But nonetheless, I thank you for your amazing content, and I will look forward to the next upload! Keep up the great work man, you’re amazing!

I love how the songs with despair feel almost corrupted by malice. The only other soundtrack I know that do this is terraria, specifically the different underground themes. I definitely think you should check those out.
Geez, never heard it but just checked it out- that Journey's Beginning piece is incredible.
AoC is far from my favorite Zelda game, and my feelings are still so mixed, but the soundtrack is absolutely perfection. The use of motifs and manipulation of phrases we are so used to evokes such intense emotional responses I GET CHILLS BRO. And a quiet moment is still my go to song to play whenever I am near a piano! Absolutely insane OST!!!!!

Yes, Age of Calamity! Such an underrated game! And the soundtrack was my favourite part of it, I can’t even count the hours I’ve spent listening to it in-game and then on UA-cam/Soundcloud 🥲 great video, hope you’ll cover more of AoC in the future (just subscribed to be here for it haha)
Age of Calamity is perfect
"Overlooking Hyrule - After the Calamity" is maybe my favorite piece of Zelda music ever, not just for how beautifully it's made, but also how it fits into the game itself. Being that it is what both the Title and Map themes change into after completing the game and (Spoilers) saving Hyrule.
Just after finishing the credits roll, it jumps straight back to the title screen and thus into the (Title) version, being an incredibly minimalistic, near solo piano piece a la BotW, and then seamlessly transforms into the full ensemble (Map) version when you press the continue button. Hit me like a truck when I first heard it and may or may not have had me tearing up a bit.
Man that's the stuff I miss out on from not playing it 😬 but LOVE they do stuff like that.

I absolutely LOVE Age of Calamity and the soundtrack is incredible. I never understood why it seemed to fly under the radar when it came out, I thought it was an excellent spin off from BotW. Equal parts hack & slash with a heart-wrenching story.

Great video! I love AoC but especially the soundtrack. I would really recommend “the knight who seals the darkness” as another great price from this game to react to.
I would definitely recommend some of the individual battle scores, specifically “With Power Awakened,” there’s a fun connection to the BOTW soundtrack if you’re familiar with a specific memories’ soundtrack

I'm really glad to see people talking about this game now. It seemed like AoC was received somewhat poorly around its release and got mostly forgotten about and slept on. Even I'll admit I didn't fully appreciate the game until revisiting it a couple years later.
The ost is especially amazing.

I've played Age of Calamity and I LOVE IT I love that in this game you save everyone after playing Age of Calamity then Breath of the Wild it's hard because not everyone makes it......and don't get me started on the music I'm loving this video

The evolution of the Overworld theme was so great during the game. It really made me want to save Hyrule even faster because of how it was distorted. Hopeful -> distorted -> peace

I bought the game, but never finished it because the gameplay just isn't for me. But I'm so glad it was made because the music is just as good as any mainline Zelda game.
I think that's exactly where I stand. Played it for 10 min (HW) and couldn't get into the hack and slash style. But then I watched a PointCrow video with storylines and music and was like "Wait, what did I miss? This looks like BOTW 2 or something!!!" lol.

Hahaha I haven't played a video game other than TOTK in like 18 months. I think I stopped playing video games and watching UA-cam when I started a UA-cam channel about video games 🤣 For example it's 11:45pm here on July 4th. Most people are either sleeping or playing video games. Me? Answering channel comments and about to edit. Then sleep 😆 Waiting to be such a big channel I can play like 3 hours every Friday night and stream it and people will actually watch.
