Two of my favorite things are gone forever; the Monorail Cafe and the hotel waterfalls. What a shame if I had completely missed seeing both while they were there.

Can anyone tell me if the Monorail Cafe was a 24 hour restaurant? I am wracking my brain on it but coming up with nothing.

Pretty sure it wasn’t but it was open particularly late.

Monorail Cafe and the waterfalls.😭 I miss them, too. I also miss the Dancing Waters show, but now we have World of Color at DCA.

Thank you for sharing. You captured good video footage. Stirs up a lot of emotions, sad and happy. Almost a quarter-of-a-century has gone by. Seeing the video reminds me that the development of the Disneyland Resort and the Anaheim Resort District was a MASSIVE undertaking. The logistics were almost mind-boggling. It was certainly exciting to be a Cast Member at that time.

Man I had no idea they displayed Western River Expedition artwork in the hotel like that. That is wild.

Marc Davis artwork, it appears to be. I never saw it there either. ;(. Too busy being in monorail cafe and the vast sundries/drug store. ;).

We stayed at the hotel for a few days during this time. I remember feeling so sad about the changes. I grew up loving this hotel. If I remember correctly the Monorail would go forward into the park and travel in reverse back to the hotel. I really miss the horseshoe falls and the dancing waters, and especially the Monorail Cafe. I have so many great memories of them.

Thank for sharing. The video captures such a historic change to the DLR all at once. The end of the original era and the beginning of today’s.

Ironically, they had an originally authentic mid century modern hotel and with the re theme they’re trying to get back to the same decor, but this time on steroids.

Which hotel was built in place of those demolished restaurants at the start of the video?

It turned into downtown Disney shopping and I guess you could say by extension the grand Californian hotel. Everything east of the Sierra tower (now called Adventureland tower) was levelled, sadly. ;(.

Downtown Disney was built on the former sight of those original buildings. ESPN Zone, Rainforest Cafe, AMC Movie Theater, and the LEGO store were built on that location. The AMC building has now been demolished, and a new structure is currently being built in that location. It will include a restaurant and shops.
