You can tell at certain points that even he is gobsmacked to be stood in front of the queen singing about nans and having a full line of elderly dancers all dancing along to his silly little song. that's gotta be up there with best life experiences for him.
In the first series of Taskmaster Greg described Frank Skinner as "wearing a suit because he is a different generation to the others" and that always felt like an Alex joke.
The thing that impresses me about Greg Davies is his ability to adapt his humour to be pitch perfect in so many different venues: the Royal Variety, his quite profane standup shows, his sitcom characters, dictatorial Taskmaster persona, and tons of panel show appearances. He really gets it. And now "My Nan" is an ear worm it will take who knows how long to flush.
It's such a catchy song as well, I love how Alex just stands there and shuffles along as if he can't play any instrument (he can!). Great job, Greg + Horne Section
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed that. There I was thinking “is Alex actually singing? He looks like hes there to say “sssshhh” and a few odd words here and there” lol

Greg turned his Mom's off handed remark into a full on musical production! I loved how he smiled while the "nans" did their part at the end. It was funny, didn't insult the royals, but at the same time showed that they are and aren't like everyone else, all at the same time. Even Alex and his bandmates joined in! Alex's costume was perfect. This was just all around great fun!
This is genius. To make something genuinely funny about the royal family and make it appropriate to perform to them must be so difficult to do. Not to mention the song is so fucking good. And Alex just standing there looking sincere in his outfit is amazing. Then ‘BRING ON THE NANS’. Brilliant. Can we also appreciate how nice Greg’s voice is as well?!
Those nans were amazing, and when Greg joined them to do the kickline, I was genuinely thinking that he would have a heart attack and they would be fine.

Loved this 😂 My own Mum and I both have a sense of humour based on ridiculous silliness - and this was right up my street 😁 Think I will show it to my Mum, as she's now of an age that she's developed some of these typical Nan behaviours and problems 😅 Though maybe not, as it will lead to the usual pestering to make her a real Nan...not sure why mothers think they own your uteruses, but they do seem to think that 😂

Definitely not a full sized guitar.
It's a Maton EML6 'Mini Maton'. Australian made 3/4 scale travel guitar.
It's actually a 6-string double bass.
The guitar hasn't been invented that wouldn't look absurd in the mighty hands of Giant Davies.
