+Shrekster Yes! The ones in the video are the original cast and writers of The Play That Goes Wrong, and are all involved in Peter Pan Goes Wrong right now.
+sn8f1st I saw the closing night on Jan 31st and it was awful. The Play That Goes Wrong is one of the funniest things I've seen on stage, and that's saying something because I really can't stand slap-stick comedy. But on the other end of the spectrum, Peter Pan Goes Wrong was one of the worst things I've had the displeasure of seeing. You wouldn't have believed it was the same theatre company. I also think the current cast in the Play That Goes Wrong is better than the original (i.e. the ones in the video). The guy playing Chris Bean is amazing though. He was the only actor I liked in Peter Pan Goes Wrong. The only one who made me genuinely laugh at one point. I guess I was super disappointed with it because I'd dragged some friends along as I'd told them it would be amazing because The Play is hilarious...and it was such a let down for all of us and now I'm not even sure I can get them to go see The Play That Goes Wrong, which is a shame.
@@elisubita7072 In English, the word "debut" is pronounced "day-byu." He pronounced it like "day-boo." It sounds a little pretentious that way, and knowing that his play has already gone wrong before it's even started, it just adds to the irony.
Goodness yes. playing unconscious half-way convincingly when you are being pulled around like that - chapeau to that actress. (And she did a wonderful "rrrrrright, just act through it" impression before that.)
I saw this performed on Broadway in 2016. I can tell you that the _entire_ thing is just as funny as this excerpt. By the end of it, my ribs and face both hurt from laughing so much for two hours straight.
I always watch this back for a great laugh and this time I noticed at about 8:13 the brother subtly tries to call out "chris" to stop him from opening the curtain. ugh it's so good
What's most interesting is how much BETTER they've gotten with practice. The jokes are more elaborte, the sets are better, the timing is even BETTER...and they know how to MILK THINGS.
Well the difficulty isn't so much accidentally doing it right, but making it not seem tacky and getting the timing right. You have to be a really good actor to pretend to be an awful one, that's just the way it is.^^
Dillyj101 You have to be really good actor, in order to be a really bad one. Think of if as "you have to learn and understand the rules, before you can break them."

I saw the whole production at the Duchess Theatre in London, five years ago. I never got tired of the mishaps, and was amazed at how much the cast put their bodies through it. The part in this excerpt where they're trying to pull the woman through the window, is just the tip of the iceberg. Thoroughly recommended!
That would have been something to see! I bet it lessened everyone's nerves, as if anything else genuinely went wrong, it just would have made it even more hilarious!
This is gold. I don't know how they could do this so hilariously and so ironically stupid at the same time. I NEED to see this in theaters. Also the part where they tried to get the girls out the window was precious.
I have been playing in an amateur theatre for years and you cannot imagine how accurate this is in terms of what can go wrong: stage props collapsing, people getting hurt, people forgetting their lines, people getting their entry wrong or don't turn up at all... I can't tell you how many little deaths I died on stage throughout my career when something went wrong.
Saw this last night with the original cast, don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life, this excerpt is only the tip of the iceberg and you absolutely need to see the whole thing! 🤣
This was really funny, a genius idea, if this was only a taster of the play, I'd love to see the full thing, good luck to the cast when they go to Broadway, hope America gets the joke!
I saw the USA touring production in Greenville, South Carolina and yes, the American audience absolutely "got" it. Hilarious laughter and a standing ovation!
I love this play so much! 😂 I was lucky to get the chance to see a production of this play on stage. I wish they would record this play and put on DVD or Blu-ray! I would love to be able to watch the whole play again. Such a wonderful performance here! My heart felt Thanks to this cast for the laughter. ❤
These are actually amazing actors. If you do something wrong but that's how you do it correctly, it's even harder than doing something right and correctly. This made no sense. Maybe someone will understand...
They are most definitely not amazing actors. They’re being hammy which I understand but they are too self-aware that they are being funny. It’s this which for me destroys what is a very good idea.
I've seen this play twice. Definitely a production worth seeing multiple times. Even better as a theatre experience to take friends and family to who think little of theatre. It's the kind of entertainment that doesn't even give you a chance to finish laughing before the next joke happens.
Unless the planned falling set pieces, distracting people etc. suddenly didn’t appear... but I bet even then these people would be good enough at improv to make things go comedically wrong on the fly.
This is a play that would unironically be a sketch in "Monty Python Flying Circus". I love every single bit of it, the crew is so talented to play *this bad*
7:50 the men's acting is so funny. the inspector is like why on earth are they laughing and the guy in the blue is so proud that they are clapping and laughing at him.
I have seen most of the UK greats live on stage - From the 'old school' of Morecambe and Wise, Ken Dodd and Arthur Askey through to the younger comics like Lee Mack, Russell Howard, Milton Jones, Tim Vine and Frank Skinner.... but I have never, never ever laughed as much as I did watching the 'Mischief Theatre' and their plays. What is seen in this video in 9 minutes does not do the _Play that Goes Wrong_ justice. The fun starts way before the peformance while the cast mingle with the audience looking for a fictional 'dog' that has escaped. You laugh, then you laugh more. And when you think it cannot get funnier it does, until you are aching, And that is just the start of an evening that is so funny that it should come with a health warning. My wife and I also saw their second production, _Peter Pan Goes Wrong_ .... another sidesplitting success even funnier, if that is possible, than this 'play'. Well done Mischief Theatre, you are the funniest thing on stage for a VERY long time.
Absolutely agreed! And don't forget Trevor, the sound and lighting tech, trying to find his cherished Duran Duran CD collection! :D My wife and I saw this two years ago, during our London honeymoon, and it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
Tim San If you haven't seen the sequel to 'The Play that goes wrong' then look out for the parody of a pantomime, "Peter Pan" goes wrong, too. Equally hilarious - with a huge turntable on stage - so you can imagine the havoc that caused...:-)
Thanks for the note. And you are right, as a fellow fan of the marvellous Mischief Theatre Company, we had two visits to that show last time it was on at the Apollo and booked in for our next visit in November. very much looking forward to it. Book now to ensure a disastrous evening ! lol.
I saw this show closing week on Broadway and got a chance to speak to the actors after. As an actor myself, I applaud those people so much bc it is incredibly hard to have a show THAT technical (minus the heroic techies running the booth and the stage manager) and keep their reactions and performances as if it was the first time ever seeing/doing it. If you ever find a bootleg, there's a bit where the "techie" (an actor) is on their phone scrolling through Instagram or whatever and they miss like 3 important cues, and all the people on stage stare at them until they do the "oh shiT!" and does them XD. I asked the dude when I saw it and he said he genuinely would be texting his friends back or ordering dinner during the show. It was so great, I laughed my ass off for 90 minutes at least.
This does not do the play Justice this 9 minute segment. Awkward silences from the audience because most don't "get it". The setting is too big aswell, the small intimate theatres suit it much better. Having said that, this show is one of the funniest ever on the West End, ive seen every production by the mischief theatre and long may they continue to make amazing productions. If you haven't seen this i implore you to go asap.
Agreed, this segment is no reflection of the full show. Saw it last week and yes, it is very clever and a great laugh. However, I've been to see their other play 'Bank Robbery' at the Criterion three times in the last few years; I think it's just superb, and even better than this one. I look forward to anything else they produce in the future.
My drama club is taking us to see this show next month and I’m so excited!!! This clip made me laugh so many times! I can’t wait to see the whole show!!!

Being involved in dozens of plays, I am proud to say that the audience has almost always been fooled by the many mistakes we've made in our productions XD Always stay in character no matter what!!
The actress playing Florence is a hero for staying still the entire time
@@theduchess9019 The actress says it was really her, and I don't see anywhere they could have swapped in a dummy. Either way, three facepalms seems a bit much.
@@theduchess9019 do you have nothing better to do than comment this under several people??
True enough. She didn't even show signs of laughing!
They did one called Peter Pan Gone Wrong a few years ago. Amazing show.
It's back on in London til the 31st!
+Mikey Wooster do you know who these people are??
+Shrekster Yes! The ones in the video are the original cast and writers of The Play That Goes Wrong, and are all involved in Peter Pan Goes Wrong right now.
I love them! I want to see more. xD
I guess I was super disappointed with it because I'd dragged some friends along as I'd told them it would be amazing because The Play is hilarious...and it was such a let down for all of us and now I'm not even sure I can get them to go see The Play That Goes Wrong, which is a shame.

sorry, i'm italian, why is everyone laughing when he says debut?
@@elisubita7072 In English, the word "debut" is pronounced "day-byu." He pronounced it like "day-boo." It sounds a little pretentious that way, and knowing that his play has already gone wrong before it's even started, it just adds to the irony.
@@holly9096 thank you very much
As a theatre person I love this show, and big ups to the young lady as they are trying to pull her through the window!
What is the name of the whole play?

My favorite line of all.....then his confused look at the audience when they laughed at his mispronunciation.

This is the best comment!
what
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking
What's most interesting is how much BETTER they've gotten with practice. The jokes are more elaborte, the sets are better, the timing is even BETTER...and they know how to MILK THINGS.
Josh Groban suddenly appearing behind the curtain practicing opera is the pinnacle of theatre
Very funny and good old fashioned British type humour i hope this play has a good run at the theatres for many years to come
Is it even more difficult to play a character incorrectly? Like do you accidentally get it right and then it loses comedic value?
Well the difficulty isn't so much accidentally doing it right, but making it not seem tacky and getting the timing right. You have to be a really good actor to pretend to be an awful one, that's just the way it is.^^
or be a genuinely awful actor, but then it's just sad and awkward
Dillyj101 You have to be really good actor, in order to be a really bad one. Think of if as "you have to learn and understand the rules, before you can break them."
In a play like this, you're basically playing two characters, the actor and the character, and trying to balance them both
The actors themselves in the show aren’t bad, just the whole set collapses around them and they try to carry on
When they first started pulling her through the window, i think one of my lungs collapsed 🤣
I'm impressed that she managed to stay playing unconscious while they pulled her through the window, it looks like nothing but the flexibility and control over her body is really impressive. What a unique scene :) If you enjoyed this, I recommend a ballet I think called the mistake waltz. Similar energy :)
Sorry, WHAAAAAT!?
Can't you genuinely tell it's a DUMMY or are you pulling our leg more violently than they do to this poor manikin?
😳😵💫🤦🤦♂🤦♀
No, seriously: you thought that was a real person?
WOW. Just WOW.
@@theduchess9019 Yes. They were pulling the actual actress. Not a dummy. You're the stupid one here.
@@theduchess9019 because it is her, how would they switch a dummy with her when she's in shot every second? Did you seriously think that was a dummy, WOW.
@@doggirl. The only chance they have to do a switch is as the door opens onto her. Notice the holes in the wallpaper behind the door. That's probably the secret.
I like how when the inspector is about to open the curtains the other guy is calling his name to warn him yet he doesn't mind it and still gets terrified

Yep, ok, you've got me hooked.
My High School did this play and it was hilarious I couldn't stop laughing.
how'd your school get the rights? i really want to perform it
* YoshiFan91 * just buy the script online along with the rights
Mr - Sand when you see it live you can buy the script, also the other shows scripts like Peter Pan goes wrong and comedy about a bank robbery
That would have been something to see! I bet it lessened everyone's nerves, as if anything else genuinely went wrong, it just would have made it even more hilarious!
So we jokly suggested doing this show at my HS. Our director staright up looked at us and said "That show is my defenition of a living hell"
I would LOVE for this group to do a full length movie, where they can name it "The movie that goes wrong."
Come back here this instant...... She's run off.
The thing is, they had to rehearse to do wrong things.
yeah, its literally harder to do something wrong correctly than it is to do something right correctly, if that makes sense haha
Why do you copy other people’s comments
“You can barley even make out the trees...”
This....is amazing!!!!!
This was really funny, a genius idea, if this was only a taster of the play, I'd love to see the full thing, good luck to the cast when they go to Broadway, hope America gets the joke!
I saw it in NYC this weekend and it was fucking hilarious
I saw the USA touring production in Greenville, South Carolina and yes, the American audience absolutely "got" it.
Hilarious laughter and a standing ovation!
Wait! As an American I'm concerned. Was their a joke in this play, it seemed to be a fairly unfortunately run through of a chilling thriller
And why wouldn’t we?
America will get the joke. we saw this in london last october. we had a blast!
The definition of the phrase "The show must go on!"
These are actually amazing actors. If you do something wrong but that's how you do it correctly, it's even harder than doing something right and correctly. This made no sense. Maybe someone will understand...
Being bad is easy, these guys do bad well :D
They are most definitely not amazing actors. They’re being hammy which I understand but they are too self-aware that they are being funny. It’s this which for me destroys what is a very good idea.
@@MrDavey2010 just relax and enjoy it ffs

I've seen this play twice. Definitely a production worth seeing multiple times. Even better as a theatre experience to take friends and family to who think little of theatre. It's the kind of entertainment that doesn't even give you a chance to finish laughing before the next joke happens.
This must be the most care-free performance to be in, you don't have to worry about going wrong...
The look on Chris and Robert's faces when Florence gets knocked out 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have seen most of the UK greats live on stage - From the 'old school' of Morecambe and Wise, Ken Dodd and Arthur Askey through to the younger comics like Lee Mack, Russell Howard, Milton Jones, Tim Vine and Frank Skinner.... but I have never, never ever laughed as much as I did watching the 'Mischief Theatre' and their plays.
Agreed!!!!!!
Absolutely agreed! And don't forget Trevor, the sound and lighting tech, trying to find his cherished Duran Duran CD collection! :D My wife and I saw this two years ago, during our London honeymoon, and it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
I think you nailed it, we went for the third time a couple of weeks ago, it is still brilliant with it's third cast, and well worth the return trip.

If you haven't seen the sequel to 'The Play that goes wrong' then look out for the parody of a pantomime, "Peter Pan" goes wrong, too.
Book now to ensure a disastrous evening ! lol.
2:50 can we also talk about this man's beautifully half grey hair?
I have watched this 50 times, and it never gets old
How can you watch it that many times without it getting old? Are you from the feywild where time moves differently?
Wow talk about a young John Cleese at the beginning
Cara Ward omg your so right! The first time I watched this he reminded me of him so much!

I look forward to anything else they produce in the future.

just saw this play at the Lyceum Theatre this week on Broadway! I was dying of laughter! Some of the actors who play the crew were out and about the theatre looking around for a dog supposed to be in Act 2 and prepping some last minute set details hilariously! They interact with the audience several times throughout, and are KINGS OF IMPROV! If you have the means of seeing it, I highly recommend it if you're looking for a few hours of laughs!
