  • In this latest installment of "Cutting Rocks", Travis and I cut some Flame, Plume & Moss Seam Agates from this summers rockhounding adventures. The results were astounding! We couldn't be happier!!

    Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: The seam agates y'all find are so beautiful. Especially those flame agates!!! Y'all's boys are so sweet. Reminds me of times with my kids... exploring and learning together!

    The colours in the last one was absolutely superb. The detail was such I’m sure I would stare at it for ages. Great rewards for all your hounding. I thinks the 2nd last one was really interesting as a picture stone I could sea the fish swimming around the aquatic grasses and the water being churned up with variable visibility. Great stuff please keep sharing your finds and your cutting and polishing results

    Those all turned out nice. My favorite was the first agate one and the last flame agate. Love how Travis was popping in throughout the video reminding us all to SMASH that thumbs up 👍 button 😜. Good video I enjoyed

    I absolutely love moss, plume, all those type agates. Indonesian Moss Agate is my fav. Some of what you have resembles it! I have seen some really beautifully polished stones/cabs, made out of the stuff and the "landscape" type never cease to amaze me. You have some beauty there!

      I know right!! It sucks that it's fractured due to the river but I was able to cut some more slabs that have less fracturing.

    * On your favorite, where the fracture is, I would cut that off & slab it & make Cabs for Jewelry... It really is wearable.. ~ The voice of your child learning & Loving Rocks took my breath away.. Bless you for imparting that love...

      This rock is my son Nolan's prized possession. He loves it as is. It's extremely rare to find this material anymore, especially one this large. I don;t think we can bring ourselves to alter it. Thanks for watching!!

      @@RockhoundingLife I would agree I live in the United states and find some seam agates, but they are tiny bits..mostly I find granites, quartz, jasper, sandstone and apparently a greenish basalt...

    Do you think you will get a slab saw, if you do make sure it has a rock vise. The vise lets you make smooth cuts and even slabs.

    your no.1 is also my no.1, of course how can you just pick one gem out of all them gems? have you guys checked into what minerals make the diffrent colors?,,, you guys found / hit the jack pot when you found them beautiful gems!!

      There is a lot of iron and copper in our area. The red and yellow are from iron impurities and sometimes you'll see some greenish color which is from the copper. The yellow impurity is probably a mineral called limonite. And the greenish mineral is likely malachite or some other copper oxide.

    What kind of saw are you using?

      It's a Rigid 7" tile saw with a diamond blade rated for marble and granite.

      I've bought a tile saw similar to the other one you have. It's still in the box, but I'm curious if I should go for one like your 7" instead.

      To prevent silica dust from getting into my lungs. You don;t want silica dust in your lungs.

      @@theyellowvanadventures9487 If you are using a flat lap and you don;t wear a mask you can stand so that the wheel is rotating away from you. That way any dust not caught by the water will hopefully move away from you.
