I liked you both from day one and I am going to make sure the right people are made aware of you both. I noticed other comments telling you to go to Scotland also. America is not perfect. We are human, and make mistakes. The ideals to which this nation was built are what make us both loved and hated around the world. But one this is unmistakable, it is people like Yoel and other immigrants that REMIND us what most of us take for granted. It is THEY that infuse fresh blood into this nation, forging it into a better place for all its inhabitants. When we get back to judging a person on their actions instead of misguided beliefs. Bless you guys, I hope one day you get to visit us. EVERY person in the world deserve to be heard.

The US has second largest number of Spanish speakers in the world. Contrary to myth, there is no official language in the US, though English is the common language and what is taught in schools. In larger metro areas, particularly in the NE, FL, CA and cities like Chicago, there are many languages spoken. About 21% of Americans speak a non English language at home. Spanish is currently the most common.

The Tomb of the Unknown soldier, in Arlington National Cemetery, where you asked if the soldiers do that every day, is a memorial for soldiers who have not had their remains identified. Soldiers stand on guard in shifts. They guard it every day, all day, every night, all night. Rain, snow, heat, or any other weather. It is always guarded, those soldiers protecting it and honoring those who died. Since 1937, not a minute has passed without the monument being guarded. The soldiers who guard it are elite soldiers. Not just anyone is accepted for the duty of guarding it and all soldiers who guard it volunteer for the duty, to stand there in any weather to honor the unknown deceased.
Right after that, still at Arlington, you saw the individual graves of soldiers who are known and buried there. Not all soldiers are buried there. It is something that is applied for.

@@LiteralCrimeRave "In 1937, the guards became a 24/7 presence, standing watch over the Unknown Soldier at all times."
"There has been a sentinel on duty in front of the Tomb every minute of every day since 1937."
"Snow, sleet, heat, wind and rain, they never give up the guard."
Those are DIRECT quotations from the Department of Defense website where they have a page giving information on it.
And just in case you want to say that it didn't say hurricane and want to imply that "never" applies only to the listed weather types instead of being absolute...
"The Sentinels of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stand watch 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in any weather."
ANY WEATHER. That is a DIRECT quote from the Arlington National Cemetery website.
"It doesn’t matter if the sun is shining, if a hurricane is passing through Washington, DC or if a Tomb Guard accidentally gets stabbed in the foot. There will always be an American soldier of the highest caliber “walking the mat” at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier."
That is from the Reserve National Guard website, specifically mentioning hurricane as a condition that does not prevent a guard from being present.
I don't know where you got your "information" from but those quotes, from highly authoritative sources relating to the subject, say it is wrong.

Night tours of DC are amazing. The Vietnam Wall is always moving--meet so many people grieving family or brothers in arms. Our form of government strives to make manifest a more perfect union. Always moving forward (not backward). All who come here have the opportunity to make as much of their lives as they are able. No guarantees--the opportunity--if one is brave and motivated enough to take it.

The statue on the Capitol Bldg. - Per google...The statue depicts a classical female figure wearing a helmet, dress, and toga. Her right hand rests on the hilt of a sheathed sword, while her left hand holds a laurel wreath of victory and the United States shield. The statue combines three traditional personifications: Liberty, Minerva, and America.

In 8th grade on our class trip to DC we got to sit in on an actual session in the Capitol, we had to be super quiet we were up in one of the side galleries overlooking the chamber. A lot of schools across America take class trips to DC so that kids get to see the legislative process and government in action but also to know our history, we go to all the monuments and museums. The two monuments they showed, WWII and Vietnam were so incredibly moving, The Wall makes a lot of people cry, the surface is so polished it's like looking in a mirror, it's haunting. The Lincoln Memorial really doesn't translate well on film, it is massive! being inside it's very echo-y and hushed, it feels like a sacred space, like being in a big cathedral. It's very peaceful. On each of the inside walls are carved his greatest speeches, his Second Inaugural Address and The Gettysburg Address. Honestly the Lincoln Memorial is one of my favorite places I've ever been, there's just something about it. The last time I was in DC was during the pandemic and everything was closed except for the monuments on The Mall.

If we don’t like a congressman we can vote them out the next election. Same for governors, presidents, local judges, sheriffs, mayors, etc.

I don’t know why people think “democracy” is a good thing for a country. The United States was never and hopefully will never be a communist country, that’s basically the same as democracy, if you really think about it. We are the Constitutional Republic. Democracy does not offer enough political stability, which can lead to a lot of problems.

      @jeremyw.norwood1453 Місяць тому +1

      @RE-bg9ds
      LoL... Dude... Listen, man...
... My man, we are a constitutional parliamentary representative republic... With said representatives being directly elected by their constituents, registered voting citizens in their respective congressional districts- for a four year term as that districts' congressman/woman... OR directly elected by the voters from their whole state, if they are serving as 1 of 100 Senators.
The only real election that isn't via direct vote is that of the presidency; which is technically only finalized by the electors from each state's voting districts.
Yet, we are absolutely a democracy.
This rather recent, and entirely misguided & misinformed, partisan political rhetoric... all of this nonsensically fallacious propaganda that is trying to muddy that understanding amoungst the general public... that is just literally a misleading argument, and it is an undeniably one made with malicious intent. As, the only reason that the far right-wing extremists have been spewing that t talking point is to try and subvert the American publics' faith in, and understanding of, exactly that fact... That the United States is a democracy. Which we clearly are, a democratic, constitutionally established, parliamentary representative republic; one with democratically elected representatives... It is a single nation formed by, currently 50, states that are all joined in an inviolable, unbreakable, inseparable Union... A singular geopolitical entity made up of all 50 states + a myriad of territorial provinces... all of which is ultimately governed by a single federal governmental system - The specific model of that federal republic is formed of three separate but equal branches:
      The Judicial/Legislative/Executive.
So, before you try to merely regurgitate the rhetorical spinnings of these extremist idealougues on the far right, my man... consider what it truly is that these sellouts are doing all of it for... they are lying, conniving, professional corporatist pundits, working for an agenda that limits individual American citizens' constitutional liberties... many of them nowadays are STILL striving to make real the lost cause of the long dead secessionists.
They are radicals, motivated by a fearfully racist bigotry... they want to disenfranchise as much of the nation's citizenry as they can successfully disqualify from participating in our elections. They are the un-American sellouts, those that sold their souls for a lucrative career of schilling for the agendas of the obscenely wealthy, aristocratic, elitist oligarchs', and they will say anything they are told to say, usually whenever they're on one of these corporate-owned cable "news" channels... but ALL of it is merely the propagation of corporatist propaganda.
It isn't about political parties anymore. It is about being a useful idiot for the corporate oligarchy or not being one... as that is all there truly is, now. They LOVE to divide the American people via employing a tactic of manufacturing culture war conflicts, and constantly keeping as many gullible rubes emotionally outraged at some made up nonsense or another, it doesn't really matter to any of them, THEY do whatever they please regardless of what the law may say... but some folks always fall for their well crafted propaganda campaigns, and I guess that some folks just always shall fall for it, too... unfortunately. 😮😢 ❤😊

The history of Cuba and the USA is a complicated one. Cuba was acquired as a protectorate of the USA after the Spanish-American War. Cuba gained independence in 1902, however, Guantanamo Bay, a small piece of the island, was leased to the USA military (and is still in use). The USA also retained the right to interfere in Cuban affairs. Soon after, the USA intervened in an uprising and appointed a governor for 3 years. In 1908, Cuban government was resumed, but the USA continued to interfere. In 1924, Gerardo Machado was elected president. He formed the island into a place for American tourists and promoted gambling and prostitution. He was eventually forced into exile in 1933. The new guy was overthrown the same year, eventually leading to the rule of the dictator Fulgencio Batista. [There was a lot of back and forth, in between]. In 1952, Batista suspended the country's constitution. He then aligned himself with the wealthiest landowners. He eventually resigned in 1958. Revolutionary forces took the capital in 1959. Fidel Castro legalized the Communist Party and carried out mass executions of Batista policemen, politicians and informers accused of torture and murder. He then nationalized the farmland to be used by workers. In 1960, President Eisenhower [USA] began planning for an invasion. It happened in 1961, under President Kennedy [USA]. The invasion, using Cuban exiles, failed. This then led to Cuba allowing Russian missiles to be placed on their soil. In 1963, the Communist Party solidified its power. From that time on, Cuba has sent military personnel all over the world to help liberation/revolutionary groups. The USA has held to an economic and travel ban on the country for decades. Russian military left Cuba in 1991. They then turned to China for support. Cuba has also been aligned with the dictatorship in Venezuela. Most of the wealthy families from the time of Batista moved to Miami [Florida], taking their money with them. They have been very anti-Communist and many aligned with conservative politics. Unlike most non-Europeans in the USA, the Cubans of south Florida tend to support Republicans. Most non-European Americans are heavily supportive of the Democrats, who are more likely to use the government to assist the poor and insure minority rights. That's a basic version of USA-Cuba relations.

There's not a memorial for EVERY war that America has fought in, but many. The WWII Memorial is actually a fairly new one. It's only been there for about 20 years or so now. If I recall, there's some for WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and there might be one for modern conflicts. Not sure on that though. There was the Iwo Jima memorial over on the Virginia side of the Potomac River for a long time, but not a full on dedicated memorial for WWII until the 2000s. The Vietname memorial is split between two things. The Wall with all the KIA and MIA names on it, close to 60K of them. Which sounded like a lot for a post-WWII war, but that's nothing compared to what's going on now in Ukraine, with Russia itself losing well over 500K now in just a bit over 2 years of fighting.

Washington, DC is beautiful, but as with every video I've seen of hers, every setting is just a backdrop for another video of her husband. It would be hard to make a video in DC and miss the buildings that mean so much, but darned if she didn't do a good job of showing barely anything worth seeing. The cemetary is Arlington National Cemetary, where members of the military who died while on duty are buried. President John F. Kennedy and his brother, Robert - both assassinated, are buried there. The changing of the Guatd at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a special event, with YT videos about that which you may like. And yes, DC is corrupt as hell, but information about people is trickling out so maybe there's hope for better things.

No, no, this is the Capitol Building where Congress (the Law Makers) conducts business. The White House is where the President (Executive Branch) resides. It's easy to go into the Capitol building, you just go in. I did it back in 1989 while on vacation to DC. We also had a personal friend and former colleague of my mother's who was a Congressman at the time, so we got to go hang out in his office for a bit. But getting a Tour of the White House is a totally different thing. You actually have to have a few connections in Congress or special priviledges to get a Tour there. Why? Well, for the simple fact that security around the the Presideng is a whole different animal, righ? There's 535 members of Congress (435 Congressmen & 100 Senators) but just one President at any given time. So they have to vet vistors to the WhitecHouse a lot more carefully than people just strolling into the Capitol on any given day. Now, that's not to say that Marie and Yoel couldn't have gotten tickets to a White House tour from the likes of Salazar or those other guys, but perhaps on such short notice, they weren't able to.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON THE 2 MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES IN THE USA
The two parties have factions within each of them that support slightly different agendas.
    REPUBLICAN PARTY
This party is the more Right-leaning party. It has 3 factions:
1 Mainstreet Republicans [This is where most Republicans would have been before 1980. However, the party has moved heavily rightwards since then. Now, this is the smallest faction, and may well die off. It is Center-Right on the political spectrum. It is a pro-business and moderately socially conservative faction that favors pragmatism and cooperation.] Examples: Senator Susan Collins [Maine], Senator Lisa Murkowski [Alaska], Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick [Pennsylvania]
2 Republican Study Committee [This is where most Republicans in the House of Representatives belong. It is fairly Far Right, however, they favor following the rules (usually) to obtain political goals. This faction is socially conservative, even so far as Christian Nationalist, and are pro-business.]
3 Freedom Caucus [This is an Extreme Far Right group that promotes disorder and works to dismantle the system. Democracy is not always respected. They have been the most supportive of Donald Trump. Many are openly racist and some have favored support for Russia.] Examples: Rep. Matt Gaetz [Florida], Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene [Georgia], Rep. Lauren Boebert [Colorado] Rep. Paul Gosar [Arizona]
    **
    DEMOCRATIC PARTY
This party is the more Left-leaning party. It has 3 factions:
1 Blue Dogs [This is the smallest faction that may well die off. It is Centrist with many having more socially conservative and economic policies than most Democrats. It used to be strong when there were White Southern Democrats, but there are so few these days.] Rep. Jared Golden [Maine], Rep. Josh Gottheimer [New Jersey], Rep. Mary Peltola [Alaska]
2 New Democrats [This faction represents roughly 45-50% of the Democrats in the House of Representatives. It is Centrist to Center-Left with strong socially liberal views. It is most associated with "Third Way" politics promoted by Bill Clinton (USA) and Tony Blair (UK). It is more pro-business than the Progressive faction.] Rep. Jared Moskowitz [Florida], Rep. Seth Moulton [Massachusetts], Rep. Abigail Spanberger [Virginia]
3 Progressives [This faction represents roughly 45-50% of the Democrats in the House of Representatives. It is Center-Left on the political spectrum. Political views in this faction resemble the Social Democratic parties of Europe, promoting national health care, addressing climate change, supporting human rights and having an extensive social welfare network for the citizens of the country. This is where the most support for labor unions and minority rights exists.] Sen. Bernie Sanders [Vermont], Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [New York], Rep. Maxine Waters [California]

@@elevenbravo1991 REPUBLICAN MAINSTREET PARTNERSHIP [The Partnership was formed following the 1994 United States House of Representatives elections in which right-wing Republicans were swept into power. The Partnership has described itself as a "broad alliance of conservative, governing Republicans". The Partnership is also affiliated with the Republican Main Street Caucus, a Republican congressional member organization that takes pragmatic conservative positions.]
      **
REPUBLICAN STUY COMMITTEE [Entering the 118th United States Congress, the RSC was the largest ideological caucus in Congress of either party. Although the primary functions of the RSC vary from year to year, it has always pushed for significant cuts in non-defense spending, advocated socially conservative legislation, and supported the right to keep and bear arms. The RSC was founded in 1973 by Paul Weyrich and other conservative activists to keep a watch on the House Republican leadership, which they saw as too moderate. The Republican Party's positions on social and cultural issues are in part a reflection of the influential role that the Christian right has had in the party since the 1970s. Most conservative Republicans also oppose gun control, affirmative action, and illegal immigration. Since the 1980s, opposition to abortion has become strong in the party. in the late 1960s and early 1970s, many Republicans were behind efforts to decriminalize abortion. As of the 2020s, the party derives its strongest support from rural voters, evangelical Christians and Latter-day Saints, men, senior citizens, and white voters without college degrees. The party has made significant gains among the white working class, Hispanics, and Orthodox Jews, but has lost support among upper middle class and college-educated whites.]
      **
FREEDOM CAUCUS [Members of the Freedom Caucus are typically considered a part of the MAGA movement and loyalists to Donald Trump. The caucus is positioned on the far-right of the political spectrum. The group takes hardline conservative positions and favors right-wing populist beliefs such as opposition to immigration reform. The group sought dozens of times to repeal the Affordable Care Act. It was established as a more conservative alternative to the Republican Study Committee. After the election of Donald Trump, it became what has been described as "more populist and nationalist". Most Freedom Caucus members objected to the counting of the electoral votes that formalized Trump's defeat. During the second impeachment of Donald Trump for incitement of insurrection, Freedom Caucus leadership and members demanded that Representative Liz Cheney, one of 10 Republicans who voted in favor of impeachment, resign from her role as chairwoman of the House Republican Conference. On October 30, 2017, Vanity Fair published an interview with John Boehner, who said of the Freedom Caucus: "They can't tell you what they're for. They can tell you everything they're against. They're anarchists. They want total chaos. Tear it all down and start over. That's where their mindset is."]
      **
BLUE DOG COALITION [The Blue Dog Coalition is a caucus of moderate members from the Democratic Party in the United States House of Representatives. The caucus was founded as a group of conservative Democrats in 1995 in response to defeats in the 1994 elections. In the late 2010s and early 2020s, the Coalition's focus shifted towards ideological centrism and pragmatic, constituency-based politics.]
      **
NEW DEMOCRAT COALITION [The New Democrat Coalition is a caucus in the House of Representatives of the United States Congress made up of Democrats, primarily liberals and centrists, who take a pro-business stance and a liberal-to-moderate approach to fiscal matters. Most members hold socially liberal views, though there is a wide array of views on such issues. The caucus has been described as being center to center-left. The Coalition supported "Third Way" policies during the presidency of Bill Clinton. The New Democrat Coalition supports free trade and the high-tech sector.]
      **
CONGRESSIONAL PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS [The CPC represents the furthest left-leaning faction of the Democratic Party. It was founded in 1991 and has grown since then, becoming the second-largest Democratic caucus in the House of Representatives. The founding CPC members were concerned about the economic hardship imposed by the deepening recession and the growing inequality brought about by the timidity of the Democratic Party response in the early 1990s. The CPC advocates "a universal, high-quality, Medicare for All health care system", living wage laws, reductions in military expenditure, a crackdown on corporate greed, putting an end to mass incarceration, supporting and implementing swift measures to start reversing climate change, immigration policies that are humane, and some form of reparations for the damage caused by slavery.]

Uhh. Do you know what all the freedoms you are talking about and speaking freely about narrow down to. What makes America so great and give people their freedom is one thing. The freedom to read. Now you are certainly free to listen to someone read something to you. But you are not free to be ignorant and listen to what anyone tells you because it's what you do or do not want to hear. That includes any man of the cloth that speaks to you in your church. You are not free to listen to anything you want because of your moral standing or ideologies and then indulge yourself by communicating that onto your neighbor or your globe. You are watching propaganda by a corrupt piece of garbage by the name of Donald Trump and the Republican party. Sorry. Of course there will be people who disagree with me or agree with me. But that is our own ignorance if we don't walk into a library and read it for yourself. That's freedom. I'm sorry that you think that Cubans crossing the border of Florida differs from the illegal migrants and immigrants that you believe are invading our Southern border via Texas. Cuba? As I write this Putin is rolling up in Cuban Waters, as an invited guest. America doesn't negotiate with the enemy. But you personally are not our enemy and are welcomed here to read a book.
