- This is Utah's (and maybe the nation's) smallest marching band! Spanish Fork High School performs their 2011 field show at the Mt. Timpanogos Competition in Pleasant Grove, Utah on October 8, 2011.
You know it's small when you can hear the flute
nicole barta You know its small when you say "the flute" instead of "a flute".
Speciality it's a piccolo lol
+Lucie Craft there is one flute one piccolo one clarinet one trombone one tuba and one trumpet
+nicole barta sounds like a whistle too me. or a recorder
Alexis Davis that's not a trombone that's a sousaphone
These kids have some balls, i would never play in a band that small, the band did fine besides the snare in some parts, and the color guard had no idea what they were doing.
For the longest time my parents didn't want me and my siblings to go to Spanish Fork High School because their music department was terrible and then a couple of years ago when we got a new band director the band started to grow and the marching band sounds better. I know because my brother and I are in marching band.
there are only 18 kids in my band and yet we are great
Rosemary Crafting omg thank u I'm up at 2am worrying about our show tonight and we have 55 people this year. We lost a lot of people
also lol see those props, the first time i ever pushed them on a field was during a performance when i was pushing it, it fell over. TWICE 😂
I dont think color guards have too much of an idea of what they're doing very often
That isn't a 1A band...
That is a .5A band
More like -1A 😫
super pro
Electric Fire They are a class C-
Electric Fireplace it's a .4A
Clara Flammae seriously!!!???
this is what happens when the rest of the band fails classes
Penelope Jenkins lmao
Penelope Jenkins YAS THATS WHAT MY MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND IS BUT WE HAVE MORE THAN THEM LIKE ONLY A FEW MORE 15 AT THE MOST
we have over ×10 more we have 108 but that's ok
exactly
True!!!!
Yo give some respect to the drumset player. Any drummer knows how hard it is to keep steady tempo when someone else is totally off tempo. In this case, the snare player right behind his head was all over the place, but he stayed pretty solid throughout. Good for him
mexkdspEd44 yasss
Jacob Collazo I'm a drummer. Your supposed to play 4 quarter notes before playing to set a tempo
Destroyer Not if the director does that for you...
John Dalton the director is never supposed to give the tempo... The tempo is what ever tge drums say it is. I will give you a link to my band, if we speed up, the band band speeds up with us.
Destroyer Okay, so then he's just standing there waving his arms for no reason?
I couldn't tell which gaurd member knew what they were doing..
+Larry Leech Either the one on the far left or middle. The one on the right appears to have been high, and the one in the middle probably knew about half of what they should've been doing.
Larry Leech I found u Larry
it makes me want to cry tbh😂😭
Larry Leech right there all on different counts omg I was actually screaming at them to count through my phone lmao
Not the one who kept hiding and then twirled without a flag. I hit someone in the face during tryouts (and did NOT make the squad) and wasn't that bad.
Everyone is a soloist :D
BRUUHHH 😂😂
Real
Real
For only 11 members, they sound fairly good, AND THEY'RE LOUD TOO.
the brass section is loud. I can just barely sometimes hear a flute and cannot tell when the other woodwinds are play (but that's normal)
ikr
+jirehguy LOL
+Xlr8rify 8 members are contributing to the sound, the colorguard are not.
+kason cheese, my bad. I accidentally counted them in
I just realized how gifted my band is lmao.
what did you play/spin?
Well I'm in the band before we compete so next year I hope to play quads, be a drum major or colorguard, but our city is pretty small, around 2,000 people and our band wins state almost every year.
Magical Megan what HS are you guys?
Cumberland high school in wisconsin
I hate to be the "rain on your sunny day", but "gifted" is not the word that you want to use more like fortunate, lucky, blessed. and favored...I'm not an English major but i know improper language when I see it cough, cough (Music Major).
Tuba carried, let’s be real.
makes me proud to be a sousa :,)
Sousa gang
Sousa gang
Sousa gang
Sousa gang
Sousa gang
The one guard girl didn't know what the hell she was even doing
+Angie Kathleen No one in this group knew what they were doing.
+tom jarvis The tuba knew what they were doing.
lol true
so true
Angie Kathleen the whole guard stank
Somebody PLEASE help that snare drummer
ikr, how can you mess that up with someone else keeping the time, right there? nerves I guess
Not even traditional grip
Yeah, he changed his tempo waaaay too much.
YES!
Amen I agree help was needed for him. He should be better by now.
As a person who marches in a band with over 350 members, I feel gifted.
Tito Dick Dickman Baby I have 59 in mine
Where?
At Warren Township High School in Gurnee we have 310.
We are probably not the loudest... we could and should be though...
350? That’s almost the amount of people in my grade wtf
Not Mr T damn how many people are at you’re school?
Ohyx+ In my high school I think we have like 1000-1500? It’s somewhere in the thousands. We’re a regional school so we accept students from the surrounding areas.
I can't get over how off that snare drummer is 95% of the time
Caleb 23 snare at 1:32 made me shudder.
You know it’s bad when someone in the audience calls him out on it
Bluecoats 2016 was so good this year 😥😥😥
I'm deaddd
😂😂
@@terminaldork get out
Zane 💀💀💀
Awwww, I love this tiny band and guard. Two people in the pit and three in guard. Wow. Great effort.
EmpressOfWyoming58 which one, there’s too many I can’t keep track
Chase Featherston ?
Only 3 guard members and they're each still doing their own little thing.
Myles Vance there ripples have ripples
haha you should see my marching band's colorguard, they cant count for shiz
This is what you get when schools stop funding music programs
Ours has never been funded *cry* But we have 120~ people in it, so yay!
My band is all funded on our own. We have a 90-100k budget.
102Help funding?
102Help @illinois
Mine is about 125, with no funding, not even any buses for most of our competitions
Keep tooting, you guys! My high school marching band was 32 members one year, went through plenty of adversity being the smallest in Georgia and we won Best in Class at competition and came in 2nd overall against the likes of Greenbrier and Ringgold, some of the biggest and best in Georgia. Hard work pays off!
you had 32, these guys have 8 kids.
Yes, I know. I counted!
I have 22 kids middle and high combined in marching band. At every competition, we were made fun of being the smallest band. You know what? We beat all of them. Fucking losers. They need to learn that marching is about respect.
Dr. Dill My band has 250 people in it lol
***** High school I went to was in the Gainesville area.
This band...became State Champs this year! In fact they are back to back State Champs. Only have 39 kids! But they have come so far! So proud of all their hard work and dedication!
Not bad for such a small band. I think they did fairly well. Those who are going to criticize me for my opinion, suck it.
And for the most part, their feet stayed on time with each other
I agree.
Plus there a high school... NOT a Drum corp. Don't say they suck because their small. Judge them by how hard they try to do something great.
they had heart!
Trent I agree with you because imagine all those hours of practice just to perform 7 minutes of a show.
Everyone here is talking about the size and the color guard and I'm thinking, "wow, this size has GOT to make for a very interesting band camp..."
Fr
When you're in a super small band like that, everyone has to play perfect. If you forget a note there's no one to fall back on.Have some respect for what is really going on. Each person is pretty much a soloist. It's nerve racking when everyone can hear you, especially if you're a freshman/new marcher. I think they did really well considering the size. Would it sound better if they had a better balance of instruments? Yes, but it doesn't sound awful. They did a great job with working with what they have. Marching band isn't just about being better than other bands, it's about working hard for something you enjoy.
IT'S SO SMALL AND CUTE OMG.
That's what she said!
Vladimir they suck tho
I miss the old twenty one pilots well theres really not much they can do with such a strict band as in theres not much they can do with only like 7 members in terms of 'ok we need x number of x to play this part and x number of x to play this' -just sayin :/
Compare it to Allen, Texas band... Has over 700
mr.krabs is one thicc bih, lemme see that krussy They don't suck. They're actually pretty good. I've heard bands with 200+ people and they sounded horrible. These guys are great.
5:41 keep your eyes on the color guard that screwed up her dot and started doing the movement without her flags
Lmao I just noticed that
thats me. I'm that guard member that would forget.
Brenna Arianna really?
She was lost since the beginning
lmfao
You know the band is small when you can hear the flute
Kayle G That's a piccolo
theres both flute and piccolo
Kayle G fuck off. You stole that comment
Holy crap! They’ve grown so much! It’s 2017 and they’re up to 2A I believe.
Dang you're right! Just looked up a video of their band in 2017 ua-cam.com/video/rbi7yaW_fQw/v-deo.html
I'm so proud
Dang, Go them! I bet it's even larger now.
am I the only one who's band doenst have like 200 members? mine has like 60..
doesn't*
mine had like 200 .-.
yea mines have 78
Katy Mahaffey I got like 30 some
I've got 125
At the same time though, every band person out there knows how hard they worked for this
All bands got to start somewhere
Nice Sound For How Small They Are .. They Have Heart To Go And Perform With Less Than 10 People . I Applaud Them .
They sound terrible, and they should learn to keep their feet in step too. Not to mention that their color guard are just walking around in circles, and randomly twirling their flags. The worst marching band I've ever seen....
TheMaskedPumpkin yeah and the tuba and trumpet were blatting it was disgusting
TheMaskedPumpkin There's only so much you can do with a band that small.
Douglas Mullen They don't have a trumpet. They just have piccolo, flute, clarinet, trombone, sousaphone, snare, synth, set, vibes, drum major, and three guard.
Dash Vader oh my bad haha at that time I was watching a different bands performance I meant trombone
@@bonetonelord Not quite. Size doesn't mean that they shouldn't know fundamental marching technique and basic music theory.
The guard was pretty bad...but it's an okay performance...tbh for only 8? players they SOUND very well.
My band has 100 people and I still think it's small. But these guys have guts, like I would probably quit band if I was in a band that small. They did great for their size.
Dang, our band is around 40, but more people are coming up every year. We went from like, 200, to 90, to 30-40s. Really good teacher to a teacher that was good but required auditions to be in the band making many people not join, and then he didn't tell people he was leaving until the last minute of band camp and so we had a lot of people quit band. The new director came and was good but not as great and then our new director is really good. We just have more freshmen than the rest of the band... sadly.
We consider ourselves a small band.
We have 260 members 😃 +8Pedroferreira
+Adrian Gutierrez That's huge.
Well we are a 6AAA school soo yeah haha Dean Irwin
+Adrian Gutierrez We have over 300+
“Come on snare you gotta keep the beat” 😂 he’s not wrong
I felt this. In my sophomore year of band, we had 7 playing members, 3 flutes, two clarinets, a mello, and a baritone, and then we had three in the pit. It's my senior year, we just finished out our season and we had 13 playing members, four saxophones, three trumpets, a mello (me!), a baritone, a sousa, and three in the drumline (a snare and two bass drums.) The thing about small bands (our's specifically) is that you have to be super dedicated to scoring higher because we're the smallest in Class A in our state, yet we're still competing against bands with close to 30ish playing members of the band. We placed silver at Prelims, and while we don't get to go to finals, I'm crazy proud of my section and everything we have accomplished. This was my second year marching an instrument (I started as guard, and I'm a choir kid originally, but I started French horn in class my sophomore year to add to the band,) and this is the year I got section leader and a solo in our show. Small bands are at a disadvantage, but you get to know everyone better than you normally would, and you really become thankful for the small stuff.
Mello on top
Yall had no guard?
not sure if its a ripple...or really bad timing
Rosemary Crafting there ripples have ripples
hey you can hear the flute
lol, being in a band with like 15 flutes (like 20 percent of my band) and still not being able to hear the flutes, i found this very funny
yea mine we have the same but our band is like 80+ people so theres really no reason to have them
my band is so small we have one flute and you can actually here it. (Technically i play flute too but only concert season I'm in guard)
As a flute player I can say for once I'd rather not hear it
Piccolo. I can’t hear the actual flute.
This post is bs for a band of that size that was really good, don't juge by their size juge by there show and how they all played confidently and all where in step. Now the color guard, uh well...
+crafting master Nowhere did the OP say that they were bad. Just that they were small. Which isn't wrong.
Who ever made this changed the tittle it use to be "Utahs, worse and possibly smallest band" notice the random comma at the beginning and how it doesn't make sense
+crafting master they were not in step the whole time lol
We fixed it don't worry. We look a lot better.
please tell me you're username is a phan name
p l e a s e
Bravo! I think its amazing that they march even with such a small size. All you complainers wouldnt even show yourself out there.
Katie Morgan I probably wouldn't tbh
No I would
Color guard had literally no clue at all.
Now THIS is pure dedication
Pit was fine, but color guard xD
+Abcnbc there was two what do you expect
R.S. Lozano
I don't Judge a band by its size, but rather then it's performance.... The color guard was way off on their sets
I'm in pit it's awesome
Well maybe they don’t have good instructors , or maybe they just don’t know anything . Or they need to learn how to count Bc counting is key ........but I mean overall it wasn’t too band I could figure out the songs and everything
Those kids are going to have these memories for the rest of their lives. Band size doesn't have anything to do with it. Props to everyone involved. Nice job :)
I feel so lucky to be in a Texan marching band, I've never seen a band so small, and i doubt marching band would be as fun as it is with so few people
youd be surprised. we have 15, including me and we all enjoy what we do.
@@thealphatrio6467 good for y’all!!
What band homie? I’m in a texas band too
Honestly, The marching should be DEAD ON with a band of that size. It's not that hard for 6-8 high schoolers to march perfect. The music isn't that bad though.
dalew101 they don't have the proper support. For example that snare drummer has no other snare drummer to look up to, to learn from. The good marchers/players in HS bands are only good because they learned from those before them. There's not enough leadership.
I'd hate to see concert season
Gary Valdez marching and concert season don't correlate very much for my school atleast we got superior rating 6 years in a row and we just got our firs superior rating in marching this year
Possibly this school might not require marching and therefore their concert band could be much larger.
Sousaphone player was good.
Okay let's be honest, you have got some balls if you're willing to play with only that many people. It's small, well very small and they don't sound that bad.
Is the colorguard supposed to be that offsync? Lmao
Color guards always suck
Jk it's not all of them do
maddiemo YOUR PROFILE PIC IS MY LIFE
No they just probably didn't practice enough
Nahtanoj Enotsylb+ Some guard members in my mb admitted they rely on our music for timing? ? This ain’t it chief
My band looks huge now, the 11 people in this band is about one third of the sax section alone at ny school
I looked up this exact same marching band and found a video of them from last year; they've grown enormously. They started with this few, but now they're probably up to 40 or 50. I would bet this marching band is in its early stages; maybe this is their first year with an actual marching band. Overall I'd say these kids have had the hardest job anyone in a band can have: leaving a legacy and building a program you know you might never be a part of. Fantastic display
that sousaphone is on point
At least it doesn't suck for the size
No kidding these guys are not bad at all pretty good for a 9 band group actually talented I'm bluffed like what!!!!
as a guard member i couldn’t stop cringing💀
The colorgaurd it literally p a I n s me I’m- im just thankful for my band now
The sousaphone sounds pretty good.
Your crazy..
Their one sousaphone player sounds better than half of my bands sousas.
+TheSlime plus he sounded in tune for most of the time haha
but the guard sucks
Sousaphone goals.
"Wow." Says a marching band of 270 people.
Same from 185 world class
Yeah got 225 people
"Wow" says a colorguard of 63 people. I can't even tell there's work
Papa Nugget Do you go to Allen Eagles?
I'm in a band of around 70
Wow
1 Tuba
1 Trombone
1 Flute
1 Clarinet
1 Piccolo
1 Snare
2 Pit Members (3 Sometimes)
3 Color Guard Members
1 Drum Major
For a 12 Member band they have big sound.
This gonna be our band if we dont get a new director
The snare player was not necessary since there was a drum kit playing! Plus he got him so off beat! Holy crap it sounds sooooooooooo bad!!!!
Alex Witmer we have a drum kit and a snare line. But our snares stay in time
There's a band in North Florida (I forget which school) that has five people marching and 7 in pit. They sound amazing.
Crap, That Trumpet killed me.
There is no trumpet there.
trombone
Gabriel Martinez Lmao woosh
Why is there so much hate comments, like seriously. Its a super small marching band and they don't have the right instrumentation.
gotta love the front ensemble and the not-on-beat marching snare.
Have you guys seen them now?! Its amazing how much times changed for them!
With a band that small, replace the sousaphone with a trumpet!
+Butterbean3101 False. Never flute.
My band has 40 winds so a sousaphone is a bad idea. For this band, it overpowers them.
+Daniel O'Brien they just need a contra not quite as loud. with a band like that they should take who they can get.
+Leo Thompson you're wrong. Contras are actually louder than sousaphones
+Daniel O'Brien I stalk this band quite a bit on FB, found a picture of them at the end of the season with one more guard member, a trumpet, and a bass drum instead of a drum kit. I'd like to see them then haah
That sousaphone is way too loud
They're supposed to be, but then again, it's a really small band.
We as tuba players are the life of the band lol
At least he can play loud some people can't even play that loud.
He's not playing it right. I play that this yeah in my marching band. It kinda sounds bad...
I DONT THINK HE WAS LOUD ENOUGH
Our band has about 250-300 students including the dance company that replaced the color guards some years back. It takes some balls to play in a band this small.
Dear god please help the snare drummer because he’s struggling😂
better than macadams highschool
u got that right they at least march almost instep and good
YESSSS
they didn't have the funding to teach the kids how to play and March right
wait...thats real i thought that they were kidding because i didnt think could be that bad (macadams HS) lol
I honestly and wholeheartedly think this band is worse than them
In our schools band, especially my grad year, there were around 30 members on the field, Half were high schoolers and half 7th/8th graders. It's an amazing feeling when you see that the previous band program you were in keeps growing and plays better each year. They now have 60-80 kids this year.
guess these kids nowadays rather do drugs and surf the net.
Ever heard of drum corps?
+Quyen Dang ?
Spanish Fork is really big in sports. So our music departments aren't that big, but our sports........
Phylismagilous Same dude. My school is really pushy about sports and there's little fine arts support. Things have gotten better since we changed principals however. We have 25 people in band and 16 in choir (and two of the choir people are also in band). You guys did alright though for how small you were.
what lol
The highest respect for these guys. They did a pretty good performance with just like 8 people. Now that is having balls.
4:19 That one guard member was contemplating life for about 5 seconds lmao
I was in this band, my junior year. (I was the piccolo player.) Sure, we were lacking in size, but I couldn't have asked for better people to be working, marching, and playing with. Even though we were "fun size", that was my favorite year!
2 people in the front ensemble lol
hey at least they make up a larger portion of their band. My high school band my senior year last year had 2 people in the front ensemble with like 90 people in the main band.
lintlickerben it's called the pit.not being mean
At my school we called it both it really just depends on what you want to say. We say front ensemble so as not to get people too hyped for the musical and the pit for that.
um no. it actually is called the front ensemble. the pit is a nickname, and people use it because the front is like a pit of large instruments that can't be marched with.
lintlickerben Its MMe
The guard was ... something...
Makes me appreciate my 240 member marching band a LOT more. And I already appreciated it because we look MASSIVE in front of a 100 player band.
My band 2 years ago- 28
My band now- 56
Never give up hope lmao
They were actually pretty good for the size of their band! And props to them for going out there, performing, and having a passion for band! They were especially good toward the end!
At 5:50 that one colorgaurd isnt even holding a flag Lmao🤣
Good for you guys! Coming from a 4a band, everything won't be perfect all the time but with practice you'll get better
My band in 1917 was about this size and now 102 years later we have over 300 members, this is proof that things will change and grow!!!
the one guard member had absolutely no idea what they were doing, and it shows
This gives me the chills the fact that it's so small. Like by no means is my band large but man. They did really good for there size of band though.
I should show my guard instructor this guard... there's literally only three people and they still have no idea what they're doing. The band wasn't bad though
they must get lonely because the best part about having a big band Is you have friends in your section. we have 12 people on Drumline and like 18 in pit so we never get lonely. that snare drummer has no Drumline friends
Allen Tucker They're probably just friends with the people not in their section.
Hats off to this marching band. What matters is that they got out on the field, and performed a great show for their audience
Dam, that tuba is carrying the whole band. Mad respect.
They probably feel so lonely.
its actually pretty good for how small of a band it is. i know i wouldn't be able to be the only trumpet out on the field. its actually good!
Snare is completly off tempo. -.-
This was probably when marching band was new to the school
Because I searched recent videos and it's much bigger
And honestly I'm so happy and proud to see how much they grew
I was complaining that my band instructor only gave us 64 sets and a low budget closer. This really puts things into perspective.
quality over quantity
it wasn't bad, but...why even have a band if you're that small...
That one guard... Yikes
some of y’all don’t realize how much balls it takes. I’m in a marching band with 275 people in it and it’s fucking nerve-racking but imagine performing with only 8 people. i’d fucking shit my pants. but respect to them because my marching band started out with like 20 people and now it’s at 275!
My old schools marching band had only about 30-35 members and we were the largest marching band in our division.
