    Having carried a M14 in an Eberlestock in the mountains of Afghanistan, it is overbuilt, I took some of the outside pouches off that were issued to me. I also almost never carried the M14 in my hands or by sling. I also carried parts of the Barrett system in my bag because it is how we decided to carry the system because we only used it to disable vehicles to discourage combatants from following us in vehicles. We stripped everything down to bare minimums and on most loadouts we only carried my M14 as a long range system. I was able to carry it that way because I was also issued an m4 with a 10.5" upper on it. the Eberlestock was trashed at the end of the deployment but I sent a picture of it to the company and I was told to send it in and they would replace it. The team after us used a mystery ranch with an Eberlestock insert. I hear it was a lot lighter. As a Civilian I use Drag bag type bags to pad a rifle inside a pelican instead of foam. Foam tears up too easy and ends up melting to hot weapons, if I have to throw a hot weapon in a vehicle I prefer to make it portable if its in a vehicle because Vehicles are big targets you cant carry when they break down.
    BTW Magpul has AI compatible mags coming out soon from what I'm told.
    Know what you mean, The movie shooter showed a tiny bag then he suddenly has a Guillie suit, For urinating we carried a PVC pipe we drove into the ground (When able) and pi$$ed in that, the pvc pipe had slashes in it and a cap so you didnt need to smell it, goats are attracted to urine unbelievably.

    Realism is the order of the day here in TNP. So let's consider how to carry a 13 lb long range rifle into our "area of operations." Which would be better: Condor Drag Bag or the Eberlestock Gunslinger II. Both have been tested heavily and it's time to bring it all together in another original systems discussion in TNP. -nutn

    • @dixonmicucci9271
      @dixonmicucci9271 8 років тому +4

      Yeah, exactly: with some 338LM's even being 9.5lb (empty/no optics), and DPMS's 6.5CM/260R being as little as 7.5lb with 22"bbl -- despite that SEMIAUTO action's extra WEIGHT, no reason to lug 12+ lbs; that's a benchrest queen, not a very pragmatic, *FIELDABLE* unit in terms of its capabilities-vs-weight ratio, but I bet ISIS would consider it better & more pragmatic than...half of the JUNK they shoot with, so if it's "what you happened to inherit from your crazy uncle," it's at least better than nothing, but I'd sell it to a benchrest guy & buy 2-3 DECENT BUT LIGHT rifles (of AR10/LR308-class characteristics) with what that thing is probably worth.

      +nutnfancy ......."Realism is the order of the day here in TNP." Well, don't think so, nutn. All you preppers think tomorrow you're going to have to go to war so you need to know how to "carry your sniper rifle into battle". Yea, go with that, nutn. I shoot. I like my M1A, Glock and shotgun but I'm not some wannabe operator who's prepping for WW3 in his basement. I love it when I watch all these videos with guys in camo, war paint, balaclavas and survival gear. Its a good laugh. Oh, by the way, 4 years USMC.

    The G4 Operator is 4700ci (I believe). Enough room for 5 days if you eat light. Weighs about 10lbs, Mine fully loaded with ar-15 and six loaded 30rd mags, food sleep system, and 6 liters of water is around 80lbs. Very heavy, but doable, and I would think I could pull off 3-4 days fairly comfortably. Haven't done it yet, but looking forward to trying.

    On topic; I've had my Eberlestock Half Track for several years, absolutely love it as a small bomb proof pack. THAT IS, when the weight is not an issue. Truly a pleasure to carry! I know not the pack we are referencing here but the point is that when their gear fits the bill it's worth every penny/ounce.

    I bought a Midway-branded Condor drag bag in coyote tan. Twice a year or so Midway cuts the price in half, so I picked mine up for $63. I like mine; it's the only case I have that will fit my varmint rifle (26" barrel, 6" drop at toe, 44mm scope objective).

    I have that Condor Drag Bag (in ACUPAT) and it's served me great, though I only have used it for range visits. It holds my full length Mossberg 500 or M91/30 though not by much. The construction on it seems fine. I really like the backpack straps (optional) on it rather than the handles or carrying strap; it allows you to carry the weight much easier.
    But with the drag bag featuring only three pockets (and one nearly useless internal one), you can hardly carry much on/in it. Although, if you only put one gun in the bag, you'd have a little more room. Still... I wouldn't advise getting the drag bag with the intention of camping with it or storing much in it, though the price definitely beats the Gunslinger 2 price.
    Thanks for the review nutn, it was really good.

  • @osiris5432
    @osiris5432 9 років тому

    This is why I love his reviews. I looked at the exact same eberlerstock pack a year ago and immediately felt it was lacking in capacity. After four years of active Army service and being sniper qualified i can attest that NutnFancy is absolutely correct. After loading first aid, comms, water, a few snacks, ammo, spotting gear, and probably a primary rifle like and M4 or Mk18, the gunslinger II comes up short, amazingly short. And lets not let the fact that even after all that you may still need to run Sapi plate armor be lost. The Gunslinger II is a day pack and nothing more. That all being said, if you can live within it's limitations, it's an exceptionally good pack. And if you haven't adapted to working through the limitations of available equipment, then you've already defeated yourself.

    Eh I've never had an issue running packs ranging from 2,700' to 3,800' for multi day trips. CF 82 pattern and large Alice packs, going for 18 miles(only 30lbs in pack). Now both the CF and USMC use a two tiered system a very large ruck and an assault pack. For the marines your looking at a 4500 cubic inch pack with attachable 1,500 cubic inch assault pack.

No tent and 3 MREs, extra clothes, rain gear, just basic stuff really, but we also learned how to pack like masters, making everything so compressible we could fit a lot in there. I think if you could find a side carry sling for under the arm, one strap each shoulder and one on the other side. I think you could carry it with a sling. I made one for my air-soft rifles out of some straps, foam and leather i had in my garage. Idk about a 5 hour hall with a 20 pound rifle and then idk say a 40-60 pound bag if not more, but my Cheytac M200 Gas Powered Bolt Action which is 18 pounds carry's very nicely all day on my side as when i go play, its all day and i have a bag with about 18-25 pounds full with an ar 15 (not always, depends what im playing and the ar 15 adds 7 pounds i.e 18-25) and a desert eagle air soft gun in the bag with lunch, ammo ect. That bag you showed off seems more practical for a long hall, especially a few days.

    You should start a website and publish articles with simple 0-10 ratings on all philosophies of use. Sure it's been done before but you can also release the hour long videos aside it and link the article and the video to each other. That way the people who want to just hear the basics can easily get the information and those that like to hear you talk can go off and do that too. Hell you could even do gear combinations certain LBE could be linked to equipment and the like. This is all in a perfect world though costs money and time to run such an operation and could detract from the core of how the channel currently and has operated in the past.

    If you're carrying two guns and two types of ammunition,the whole problem associated with weight between using a 5.56mm and 7.62mm x 51mm NATO is kind of thrown out the window. My opinion is, if you are going to try and carry around a sniper rifle, just carry around a marksmen rifle and replace your sniper rifle all together by upgrading your main rifle. You can't go full auto anyways, so you might as well consider upgrading your semi auto to the height it can, anyways.
    A .308 battle rifle is probably fine, but if weight is a major concern, the 6.5mm Grendel is about as good as it gets in the intermediate area. You can get an Alexander Arms 6.5mm Grendel with 1 MOA for about 1500 dollars, and it has a range of about 1000 yards, with more energy at 600 yards than a standard .308 (but less than a sniper variant), although the ammo can go up to a dollar, but 50 cents or less, particularly if you hand load, is not unreasonable. Still probably beats the price of two guns, and you get other benefits, like increased power and range over the 5.56mm without losing the small size or drastically increasing recoil, so it seems fairly practical. Any 6.5mm grendel gun would be pretty neat, and the main reason it beats out the 6.8mm Remington in the marksman role is it's extremely high ballistic coefficient, which lets it go out to 1000 yards pretty easily, a max range of about 1200, which is about all you could practically need in any case.

    a mod we used in Afghanistan when using a drag bag...take a 2 liter or milk jug and sew a piece on the nose of the bag so it doesnt get caught on the brush when we drag it....we'd drop our bags about 100m down the mountain side and paracord it up the side of the mountain, when you pull it it sometimes got caught until we put the plastic on it...shoe goo helps stabilize it as well.

    Ah yes the good old gun slinger 2. I have enjoyed mine but I do feel the bag has a fatal flaw. When the bag is loaded up to capacity for extended outings it can get HEAVY. Back in December I spent some time in the North Georgia mountains with mine and by the time I loaded the bag with rifle, shooting gear, basic survival kit, shelter, water, and food the damn bag came in at over 60 lbs. And while the bag held up well the lack of an external frame or ability to utilize one became a major problem. If Elberlerstock would make a pack with an external frame I would buy it in a heart beat. But as it is now I am looking to replace the pack with something with an external frame for better weight management.

    Eh... I have to disagree about making the Gunslinger 2 lighter by compromising on materials... Yes, it's true, if you don't watch the ounces then you'll miss the pounds, however, I believe in this case the 3 lb difference does not justify compromising on durability. Other than that minor difference in opinion though, I agree with everything you say, as I've come to expect! Great video!

    Nutnfancy, for all of us over 50 years old it is the rifle plus 25lbs including the pack. Guys are just humping way too much gear. I used to work at Tactical Tailor. If it was a real event and you would have to "shoot and scoot" it's a Med Alice lightly loaded and a good pair of light weight scootin boots.

    +nutnfancy Hi nutnfancy. Would you consider doing some test on the Mauser M03. You don't need to do any extensive testing with all the barrels and ammo types. Just maybe use the .338 (i know you have a soft spot for that round & so do I) and another ammo type of your choice. I just love that rifle. It's a engineering masterpiece and the mechanics is just prima. If you could get a rifle for borrow or rent,i would highly appreciate your thoughts on it. Excuse me if you have tested it already but i trawled through your videos but couldn't find it. Keep up making the awesome and informative videos. Much respect.

    Hey nutn, have you tried the Geigerrig hydration bladders? Love my 3L, slim and easy to clean, works well for day excursions or less. It does suffer from the rubbery taste issue like all bladders, but the inflation feature makes staying hydrated easy and works well for cleaning wounds/gear if needed. You've probably had this question asked before, but i thought I'd ask anyway. Have a good one!

    wouldn't the kelty condor bag combo be substantially heavier than the single eberlestock bag? if you need more space with the eberlerstock bag why not carry a second bag like you would with the kelty? a second bag with the eberlerstock bag would still be lighter.

    Hey Nutn'... This is kind of off topic but how do you hydrate without a camleback when you have a motorcycle helmet on? Or do you have one of those helmets where the face opens?
    Also the Eberlerstock pack seems A LOT like the Marine Corp ILBE (Arcteryx) pack which is what I have and LOVE (so far)

    10lb DMR/SAPR 18" 308 MATEN (LR308 variant). Sling it or pack it? I've carried a SAW/240G when I was in much better shape for extended periods of time. But just wondering at what point is it considered too much weight for a sling? I am running a 3-15 SWFA SS scope in Larue mounts if that has any say on sling vs pack.
