Why Are Celebrities Being Blocked and Boycotted? 🤔

  • Why are so many celebrities and influencers getting blocked and being put on boycott lists? Blockout 2024 has taken over our feeds. It was mainly the Met Gala that started this-people were upset about the injustices occurring around the world - especially in the Middle East. And there's an expectation for people with big platforms to take a stand and help bring change by using their voice. There are a lot of opinions and feelings around this … but we're sticking to facts. The idea is if enough people block a celebrity, it’ll impact upcoming brand deals, public appearances, views, engagement-hit them where it hurts most: the money they earn. But is blocking an effective form of boycotting? Like, let's say a million people are willing to block. Would it be more impactful to target a few specific celebs vs. splitting across a list of hundreds? And take Billie Eilish as an example. She wore a ceasefire pin to the Oscars. Is that enough to take her off the list? Who decides? Then again, this did get Lizzo to speak out. And Taylor Swift reportedly lost 300,000 followers on TikTok. Detrimental for a small account … but not sure that’s a big deal to her. So, do you think this blockout will ultimately lead to change?

There are so many social injustices y'all turn your back to, so much murder and persecution that you don't care about because it doesn't breath in your neck. While you will advocate for the one of the moment to feel better, and while you will only pay attention to this one because it has been advertirse to you after a period of injustice inflicted precisely by the dominant powers, and while you will berate anyone who doesn't loudly announce they are as compromised as you, you won't compromise, yet again, with something that doesn't reach you directly or indirectly. The girl who was ha/ass/d reached out to Colleen for help but instead got blocked. People found Colleen's actions repulsive and canceled her. Let me put this into another perspective. And I'm simply here to also understand your perspective, so feel free to prove me wrong. But, in a hypothetical situation, let's say that I told you that Belgium was c/tting off the hands of children and adults in Congo, then selling chocolates that resembled those s/vered hands in their country. Now, here come the questions: How much of the situation would you know as a citizen in the country about something happening overseas? (I mean, you'd see the chocolate hands in the market). How would you feel in that situation? Would it be morally correct to sit idly by? What if it happened today? Would people justify Belgium's actions? I mean, would regular citizens with free speech and more perspective on the situation because of live footage from that area let history repeat itself? I would hope not. But I personally think that the issue in itself is that celebrities are put on pedestals and idolized, so not many have the b@//s to call out their actions or lack thereof. Every action you do or don't take sends a message, so staying silent gives them your money and tells them you stand with their silence. Yeah If that's anything to go by the celebrities you should honestly just shut up and if they want to help They can donate some of their tons and tons of money to 🍉 and They can use their big platforms to publicly endorse charities that are helping the people in 🍉 But that's about all they should be doing because whenever a celebrity tries to have an important opinion, they mess it up somehow.
I endorse blocking celebrities before a completely different reason.

With that level of influence comes the ability to drastically shift public perception. I think Palestine and Israel issue shouldn’t be forced upon celebrities. I think it would have been more reasonable to have celebrities donate money to help with taxes which should pay for healthcare, military, economy, and etc. have it help fix our country-especially since the left and right in our country are dealing with our own issues. Middle class doesn’t have enough money to focus on another country because yes, even though other countries are at war, first world countries are dealing with our own battles. What about going against human tra-, drug traff-, criminals, the rights of the people back, ensuring safety for citizens, immigration policies that protect the citizens of the country, capital punishment, inflation, foster care, adoption process, getting rid of obvious cults (Scientology), allowing Christianity to come back and even allow Bibles in public schools, funding the police, protecting not just children but men and women too, bringing back laws regarding marriages, banning inappropriate videos, etc. there’s a lot of things within our country and we do not have enough resources to give to other countries, we’re putting them the wrong way, etc.
So I agree, celebrities are not there to be the bridge to donating dozens of money to other countries. Money, resources, and people have been sent to all over. Yet no one can see that we need to help and fix our own economy? Like I stand for Israel, I completely understand Israel’s decisions-even if the media is making Israel look like a criminal while Palestine made the terroristic actions to have Israel declare war on Palestine. Israel gave enough time for any and all citizens in Gaza to leave-but because the Hamas, a terrorist government led party of Gaza is using citizen clothing to hide, of course no matter what Israel does- the world wants to get emotional over a UN vehicle getting destroyed. When war happens, even UN workers and volunteers should stay out of their way . Let Israel wipe out the terrorists. For those who are actively going to Jewish universities in first world countries and are threatening Jewish students. Why don’t you go to Palestine and fight for it? Don’t run away from your violent homeland and come here with your violent mindset. The only reason why you have a freedom to your religion is because of the religion that built the country, Christianity and those who fought against tyrannical, authoritarian, etc people. You escape from a place that’s crappy and you hate the west for the freedom it gives.

Although another comment stated that people will blow up over a political event only to forget about it (i.e. Ukraine and STILL Flint Michigan and let's not forget Ohio) which is very true. If celebrities are expected to care so much about a political event and give their views then that expectation should be put on everyone for the FULL DURATION of the event. Which in the case of Palestine is impossible since the issue between Palestine and Israel has been going on for CENTURIES. "In a way, to be indifferent to that suffering is what makes the human being inhuman. Indifference, after all, is more dangerous than anger and hatred. Anger can at times be creative. One writes a great poem, a great symphony. One does something special for the sake of humanity because one is angry at the injustice that one witnesses. But indifference is never creative. Even hatred at times may elicit a response. You fight it. You denounce it. You disarm it.
Indifference elicits no response. Indifference is not a response. Indifference is not a beginning; it is an end. And, therefore, indifference is always the friend of the enemy, for it benefits the aggressor -- never his victim, whose pain is magnified when he or she feels forgotten. The political prisoner in his cell, the hungry children, the homeless refugees -- not to respond to their plight, not to relieve their solitude by offering them a spark of hope is to exile them from human memory. And in denying their humanity, we betray our own."

For example, people who live in countries like Russia or China can't just simply educate themselves. Having free access to knowledge is a privilege that's mostly held by the West.
On top of that, celebrities are out of touch and are often horrible people. So usually when a celebrity comes out in support of anything, they either get proven as hypocrites (like for example with Taylor Swift and Leonardo DiCaprio and their private jet adventures) or they come off as incredibly out of touch and cringy like for example, when all those celebrities came together to sing Imagine from their mansions during the 2020 event.
On another note the kind of celebrities I have seen coming out in favour of 🍉 Have not been the ones you want on your side like for example Chris Brown has come out in favour and so has Lizzo and I believe that the leader of your country as also come out in favour.
It would be nice if for a change. Some beloved celebrities like Beyoncé or Taylor Swift came out in favour but chances are they will probably mess it up some some point down the line.
The good news is there are plenty of celebrities coming out in favour of isitreal and they have made the isitreal look a lot worse by coming out in favour. It's one of the many reasons why I have now been somewhat 🍉pilled.
I think celebrities have a duty to use their platforms and money for good and I support blocking them for any reason. Any person deems necessary because people can block whoever they want but I just think that when they come out in favour or against something serious they make the problem a lot worse.

This is from an article I read about the "pin":
Let’s talk about the red hands on the Oscar pins and why it’s a fraught and painful issue for many of us who care about Israel:
You didn’t know me then, but back in 2000, I was a freshman at UC Berkeley when things got crazy in Israel when the Second Intifada erupted.
I will never forget the first time it hit me hard - I had just finished taking an anthro 1 quiz. I was drinking a green tea boba tea. And I was reading CNN online when I saw the story about the lynching in Ramallah.
Two Israelis, Yosef Avrahami and Vadim Norzhich, had made a very wrong turn, and would never turn back. They were swallowed by a lynch mob whole, who beat them, stabbed them, gouged their eyes out, and disemboweled them as they lay on the floor of the Ramallah police station.
And when one of the Israeli men’s phones rang and rang and rang - his wife, worried that she hadn’t heard from him - his killer picked up the phone and said “your husband is dead.”
The words were enough to make me sick - just as I’m sure they’re making you sick, too.
But it was the photograph that ran alongside the text that left me screaming, screaming, screaming out of my mind, a keening wail from across ten time-zones, as I stared at the picture of one of the men who did this to them, who squeezed their lives from their bodies with such brutal inhumanity, and who then stood by the open window and waved to the cheering crowd below.
His hands, like two bloody flags waving from the window, his hands like something from the darkest recesses of the mind that drags us to that place where humanity shambles off to die. His hands, those two hands with five fingers each, just like mine, just like yours, covered in the blood of another man… a Jew. A Jew like me.
So when I see the Artists for Ceasefire pins with the red hand on it - that’s what I think about. I can’t NOT think about it.
And I wonder if the designers knew about this story. I wonder if they knew but didn’t care. I wonder, also, if it was done on purpose… I’d like to think it wasn’t, but I wonder… I wonder if the celebrities wearing the pins knew the history of the Second Intifada which nearly brought us to our knees in Israel, or about the lynching in Ramallah and those horrible hands out the window red with human blood and if they did know about any of this, I wonder if they made the connection and just didn’t care. And, I have to wonder why they couldn’t also bring themselves to wear a yellow ribbon in solidarity with the suffering of the hostages held captive in Gaza alongside the red. Surely, the human heart is big enough to care for both Palestinians and Jews who bleed the same color anyway?
    I wonder.

Personally, considering how they reacted to covid, I feel like they would make the situation much worse by trying to help.
The best thing they can do is donate some of their tons of money to aid workers who actually know what they're doing and maybe endorse sending aid to 🍉.
But I personally feel like if all of these celebrities came out in support of 🍉 it would be cringe and it would take away support from the average everyday person In fact, I have personally noticed that the celebrities who have come out in favour of is.reel have done more to help 🍉 than any out of touch celebrity could have ever done with any support of 🍉.
That being said, I support the block mostly just because I don't think people should be worshipping celebrities anyway and I'm saying that as someone who used to have worshipping celebrities as my special interest If you want to worship anyone that isn't a religious figure, worship your parents, or your support network or people who have actually done some good for society.
