From my personal experience, the tics I have usually range from vocal noises that are comparable to hiccups, to slight jerky movements of the arms and legs, though there are different tics depending on the case. I know however that it is pretty much never a laughing matter
But again, I'm just recounting my experience

I was diagnosed with Giles Tourette's Syndrome as a child. I'm 36 now and though I rarely have outbreaks anymore, they still poke their ugly head out once in a while. My Tourette's are only physical, but when dealing with a great deal of anxiety and stress, it can trigger an outbreak for me that always lasts more than 2 weeks, often much longer. I get extremely sore muscles and headaches due to my neck tics and my jaw gets very tired and sore from grinding it side to side so much and so vigorously.
Thank you for creating this video, it is frustrating to see people fake having disabilities. And as someone with Tourette's myself, I can easily tell she's faking. She literally has no clue what it is truly like and I'm sad for her that she has to fake having a disability in order to get attention.
As a side note, I stood up and confronted a couple young individuals I overheard in a convenience store years ago who were joking about having Tourette's and were fake "ticking" and laughing about it. It was obvious they were fake and just making fun, and I told them that I have actual diagnosed Tourette's and that it isn't a laughing matter. I told them to imagine bending your neck sideways and pushing your jaw to the side as far as you can before you feel pain, and continually do that about 10-15 times every minute for 2 weeks straight and imagine how that would make your body feel. Sadly, the look on their face said it all... "Whatever..." and they just shrugged it off and didn't care. Some people will just never get it, unfortunately.
There's a Hallmark movie that explains pretty well about what it is like having Tourette's. It's based on a true story of someone with verbal Tourette's who wanted to become a teacher. I HIGHLY recommend it. It's called "Front of the Class." Very inspirational.

    • @callmewolf3910

Tourette's can't only be physical. The very diagnostic criteria for Tourette's includes motor AND vocal tics. If you only have motor tics it's not Tourette's but another tic disorder. Just FYI

    • @68DodgeChargerOwner
      @68DodgeChargerOwner 14 днів тому +2

Not 100% correct. Tourettes is typically displayed in both motor and vocal "tics," yes, but it doesn't nean it can't manifest itself as just physical tics. Every case of Tourette's is unique to the individual and when you throw other disabilities into the mix as well (I also have been diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, and Anxiety disorder as a child and Autism as an adult), that can further complicate and interfere with Tourettes and how it manifests itself. I have met people with Tourettes who have had strong vocal manifestations of it as well as others who have only motor manifestations. I know I said I have only physical Tourettes, but that is really only 99.9% true as I did have a short bout of a super low (nearly undetectable by others) hum / grunt for a period of time many years ago. It was so short and minor I often forget about it. I know it can manifest itself as both vocal and motor; but in my experience, motor has mostly been the only manifestation, so that's what I meant by "physical only." Just because it doesn't show vocally does not mean it is not Tourettes.

People are trying to fake ADHD now?? It's always something.
How does one even fake ADHD, isn't it mostly internal? It is for me, at least, but everyone is different
A lot of people might fidget more, my brother is one of those who can't sit still but can focus (kind of), but I don't fidget as much as he does. at the same time though I can't keep my thoughts together, it's always a jumble of different thought processes that I have to try and untangle before speaking or writing or else nothing comes out right, that's the best way I can describe it asz

I don’t wake up jumping every day, it’s more like wasting time and barely being focused on something before hating myself for not doing anything and not being able to keep my attention on a task that I don’t enjoy even when I know that it’s something that I need to be focused on

I tend to spin my foot in a circle, or tap it up and down(furiously), and people just see it as a nervousness thing (which is kinda true I guess). I even do it when I'm about to fall asleep and my mind and body are almost fully asleep. And as soon as I notice I'm doing it I am able to stop, but I do prefer not to. Sometimes people see me do it and they unconsciously start doing it themselves, cause tapping your foot is what people tend to do anyways, just not as much. And sometimes when I'm sitting on a bench It can bother other people cause the vibrations from the tapping travel thru the bench and cause it to shake.

She feels shameful for her tics and has cried to me wishing she could be me instead because she hates them . She’d have outbursts in the middle of class of anger and tics and I’d be the one in the hallway helping her calm down , while everyone including teachers laughed and scoffed at her . She’s my best friend to this day and she’s 10000x better and I’m so glad I could be apart of her life . And will always be to this day

Your tic rating at the end reminded me that I had tics very similar to tourettes for about a year or two in elementary school. They would get worse, one in particular more than the others, if I let my hair get long enough to be visible if I brushed it forward, but would still persist even a week or two after I had it cut, and brushing it out of the way didn't do anything. I had 4 main tics:
The first was I would flick my head about 90 degrees to the left, while also tilting it forward, and then it would reset to the right most of the way. That one was the one that was most active when my hair was long, which makes sense, especially since obviously I now know what the issue was. This one felt like an itch in my head, and about half the time, snapping my head to the left made it stop itching, but the other half I would do it immediately over and over until it did.
My second was what my mom called "squiding", and that was where I would...I'm doing it intentionally right now to try and describe it, but I kinda can't, it wasn't something I could do before this started happening, and it's been so long I haven't thought much about it. ...But I kind of put my tongue at the roof of my mouth and like...flex a small part of it? In a way that the saliva moving under it makes a sound like Squidward's walking squelches.
My third was actually a verbal one, but it was fairly rare, and would only happen when I was already very stressed. It was like a sudden vocal activation kind of between a "hmm" and a "huh" as well as a nasal exhale. It's like a very momentary hum, but when it would happen, my whole upper chest would contract, like it was trying to reject the air I was breathing or something.
And then the fourth was just a hard blink. That one I honestly still get when I'm stressed, even now, so long after it was confirmed that I don't actually have TS.
I was around 9 or 10 when this was happening, and my family and I all genuinely thought I did have TS. But then they took me in to my family doctor after way too long of allowing this to go on without help, and he discovered that I...had put a ball of blu tack in my ear, seemingly several months to about a year earlier...and since my family used q-tips to clean ears then, it had basically gotten pushed all the way into my ear canal. I didn't notice until after it was removed that that was why my hearing felt like it was fading, and I think I'm probably lucky not to be half deaf today. I don't remember if my doctor told my parents why this was causing physical and minor verbal tics, and I'm not a doctor. But if I had to guess, I'd say it was either that I was subconsciously feeling it push against things in my head, or it was some kind of equilibrium issue?
In any case, I hated every minute of it, to the point that after about 20-30 minutes of softening up the crud in my ear, spraying it with water, and finally eventually carefully extracting the ick ball from my head with tweezers, I was too focused on the sudden feeling of relief and the immediate improvement in my hearing to be confused as to when the heck I stuck blu tack in my head, or embarrassed that I had somehow managed to do that in the first place.
But anyway, the little ball of half-melted ick that got removed from my head ended up being the issue, because within only a couple weeks or so, my tics had gone away. Well, again, except the occasional hard blink due to stress, but maybe that's just something everyone does?

So, there is something I'm going to mention about this. You caaaaan choose what tics you have, but you have to spend a LOT of time trying to control them. And this requires knowing what your body feels like when you're about to have one. When I found a doctor in Wisconsin who specialized in Tourettes, it took months in order for me to control ONE tic. Let alone, all of them. Including the use of a brain activity machine to control how active my brain was while doing nothing.
It took a long time for me to be able to get to where I am now with my Tourettes, and I had a specialist helping me. There's no way in hell this person was able to do what took me damn near a year, if not longer, to do with the specialist helping me, all on their own in such a short period of time.

@ThePotatoMan i’m pretty sure its been used on some patient’s and its helped, but id 100% talk to your doctor about it to see if its the right option as you said that you’ve had severe tics before

Honestly I was pretty apalled to see the Tiktoker...I only have tics (had them since I was 10 or 11) and thankfully no sounds or explicit movements and I was completely exhausted after the situations in which I supressed them as best as possible, next to sometimes having what I called "an intercity of tics" as if my body thought it needed to "get even" with the time with supressed (and as a result) "no" tics.
The thing Dapz describes about the neck twist kind of thing hurting...OMG yes, I can recall that when it was superbad it was incredibly painful, up to the point I basically trained the muscles in my neck and shoulder so much (my tic used to be only on the left side of my body by the way) that it at one point pinched a nerve bundle responsible for touch running up to my left arm, and my arm was feeling like when it's laying in a weird angle during sleeping and you wake up from the numbness there, I was only capable of feeling pain and pressure, it was very weird.
I was so ashamed of my tics when I was much younger that I'd honestly would've tried to not show them in a video should I have been making video's around that time, I just don't get why someone would seriously do stuff like this...

Just for more educational purposes, there are many more tic disorders than just tourettes. As for me, I don't have tourettes but people often assume I do because my frequent tiks. My doctors have been trying trying to figure it out for years when they finally gave up. They just labeled it an unspecified motor tik disorder and left it at that. They found that Strattera would suppress them a bit, but like dabz was saying, hyperfixating on something can help repress them and straterra is an adhd medication.

      And if it's hereditary
My dad just randomly starts swearing
He doesn't seem to realize he does it to cause ill usually ask him what's wrong
(We usually get a problem on the ranch and since I'm the only kid who's still around I'll probably have to take over soon so getting info on what to be aware of is good) and he'll say nothings wrong.

My science teacher in year 8 had tourettes, usually she’d just randomly say stuff like “HEE HEE” (like michael jackson) or she’d just make random noises (like BOW or ICK) she definitely was NOT like ticsandroses, it basically never happened except if our class was being annoying or not listening to her, she also explained the sometimes she’d randomly put her head up as a tic, and she explained motor tics to us as well, it was extremely helpful to learn about it
