Staffing at your urgent care location was *ridiculous* ! They should be ashamed of themselves. We have multiple providers per UC location depending on patient volume. 50 patients/day = 3 providers. 75-100 patients = 4-5 providers. We also have at least two RNs working per shift. A MA is *not* permitted to work alone. In our state, hourly employees are not guaranteed a lunch break, however, if we aren't permitted to leave the premises, they are mandated to pay us.

Hi Christie. Nurse Practitioner here. I was very happy as a RN, BSN. Made lots of money, NP money with a few OT shifts without the extra stress and liability of NP practice. Then, the hospital where I was at was shuttered and I started at another hospital which treated their nurses very badly. I ran to get my NP thinking that was my ticket to freedom but I quickly discovered that the University doesn't help you with placement, they don't prepare you properly by giving more clinical hours, my University didn't even find us physicians to do clinical with. We had to find our own physicians to do clinical with and I had to settle for physicians who really didn't train me well. After graduating, I found out that many physicians don't offer any health insurance, don't want to pay malpractice insurance and many just dump their workload on YOU. Also, many MDs don't always want to mentor you, they expect you to be able to handle everything. It's not like the hospital where you have a preceptor. I don't want to seem negative but I didn't have the experience that I anticipated. I thought that NPs and MDs work together in COLLABORATION but that's not really true. The MD is often out of the office and the NP is carrying the whole patient schedule alone. Maybe I just had bad luck, don't want to discourage you. Just talking about my experience. I'm back in the hospital, at the bedside because I'm single and needed health insurance. My MD didn't want to give me health insurance. I don't mind working 3 twelve hours shifts a week and if a better NP opportunity comes along I might consider it but only part time. In conclusion, I would say that if you're happy at the hospital, stay there. The NP market is saturated and the money and benefits are not there as before but what IS there is increased workload, liability and stress. Do your research.

I love watching your vlog! I also work in an urgent/acute care clinic but this is my first job as an NP. Have been there for four months now and still transitioning. I was an oncology nurse for many years prior and plan to go back once I get my one year experience lol. I’ve seen other vlogs with you talking about seeing 40+ patients in a day. I am struggling seeing 20. The charting is kicking my butt! I have smart texts and such. I feel like I’m putting too much info into it but am afraid I will leave something out ugh. Do you have any tips for me or anyone else reading this? Any input is much appreciated! I am looking forward to hearing about your next endeavor! ❤

@@alignedwithchrist Hello, my Sister in Christ and my fellow Sister Nurse. Thank you for your reply. So kind of you to reply. I'm in Northern New Jersey, that's why I didn't know that abbreviation. Well, it doesn't matter whatever state we live in; Nursing is a tough occupation and being a Nurse Practitioner isn't all what it's cracked up to be. Alot of universities sell you a big Bill of Goods and they really don't guide you after graduation. The tuition money is the END game for the colleges and universities. Yes being an NP is very time consuming and they want NP’s to always be able to justify what they get paid and physicians are getting away with doing the bare minimum . It is good when you take a stance and say no more . My health and work life balance is important to me . Life is too short and we are all dispensable when it comes to these employers . Covid showed us that.
