This is so unfortunate I don’t hear anything good about becoming a nurse practitioner. Pretty much all the videos I’ve come across on UA-cam about NP have been discouraging. I honestly thought that this would be a path that I would be interested in pursuing, unfortunately I have no interest of becoming an NP.
I definitely do not want to discourage you along this path. My 1st (and only) NP job WAS NOT a good fit for me and that’s okay🤷🏾♀️ I don’t regret that job because it made me a wonderful provider and it also made me realize allllllll the many things that I will not tolerate in a job going forward. I enjoyed the role and the idea of being a NP; however, I did not like my job or the treatment. So do it if you’re lead to and if you know what you want to do with your NP degree…there are a great deal of ppl who actually enjoy it…
It really depends on how you are introduced to NP career in my personal opinion. If you work at an institution that supports the NP/PA workforce it works a lot better. I will say this it’s sad to hear her experience because where I work really supports our career . I remember being in NP school and people would ask my classmates why we didn’t pursue FNP program .. my reason was because I knew exact what I wanted to specialize in and I was already marketable as an oncology nurse ( liquid and solid tumor but more of GYN oncology surgery/ medical background) So post graduation to be honest most of my FNP friends had a really hard time finding a job especially if they didn’t have certifications . I had so many call backs but I literally took my time until the right one presented for me. I waited a few months and kept working as a nurse and made sure the position was exactly what I was interested in period. This is very important. Before accepting a provider role make sure you know what your interest are and find a place they values you and supports your role . Just my opinion. I’m not saying it’s not challenging but I have a work life balance and able to provide patient care in timely manner and chart same day or complete the following morning. This pandemic has really been challenging of course covering other clinic due to short staff but I enjoy the area I work and feel supported with our attending providers and staff. Hope this helps

Gosh. Did u ever get sick 😫? . I totally understand....i am not an NP but, I picked my nurse job based on incentives...not $. I got a mon-fri, no holidays. 26 days leave a year. Paid holidays. And 5% retirement match. I am very happy. I drive 30 min to my job. I have 2 hospitals 5 min away but, the $ is not enough for me to leave. Great video! 👍
Your incentives are great! I’m glad you chose your happiness and over all well being over the closer facilities. Thanks for watching my video and kudos to you💕
Watch & pray, I relied on incentive and differential pays for my schooling and still shoulder the family responsibilities. However, the new supervisor and DON removed all of those and reduced my hourly pay and caught me at a time when I was vulnerable by being busy with no time to think to sign the form that I agreed. Sometimes, I am still upset about it and I still say in my mind that hopefully karma will get them… maybe they already got their karma, but once, only once, I called them bastards.
Chrissy the nurse, make sure you look at your pay check!!! I relied on honesty. It was partly my fault because I didn’t check that I wasn’t paid for my hours. I tried collecting, I was short changed for almost $40k. Never paid me. I was afraid to lose my job so didn’t turn the manager in. I should have… it was years ago already. Once in a while I just wish for Karma. She may have gotten it already…
Sounds like working in psych. Call pts for scheduled telehealth appointment and they’re at Walmart and say can you just call me back later? I’m like I ain’t ya friend to just call you back later 😏
It seems to me that they way they treated you was very corporate like. First and foremost was business and employees wellbeing later. It also looks like they had organizational issues. The whole thing about transcription out of the country sounds sketchy AF! What about patient confidentiality? I really hope you find an NP job in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Girl, I love this presentation. Yes, trust in the Lord. Don’t worry, your next job will come. I also quit on the spot telling the CEO it’s my 2- weeks notice. I was exhausted, he was playing this game, my subconscious was so disgusted that I didn’t even know what came out of my mouth over the phone, when it was done, I asked my self what I had just done. Did I really quit? I told another medical director about what I just did and we both laughed and he told me that next time, think first. Hahahaha!!! I didn’t have a job lined up. My disgust with the mind games pushed me. It was scary and funny at the same time. From what I heard, the CEO was nice to the next provider, offering a decent salary and no mind games. I was actually instrumental in him hiring another provider. I figured, I could still be decent as is my nature. 😊
Why most NP go to doctor offices instead of hospitals to departments such as ICU,ER,surgery etc ? So many options and I Always see NP going to doctor offices
Most hospitals are teaching facilities. They have Interns, Residents, Fellows, and Attendings. There's no space for NP. Also, hospitals are picky about experience .
I caught what mistake you made. You said " I will appeal to you once but you won't take advantage of me", and proceeds to tell about how you came in early. So I think, here, in the beginning, was the most important time not to let your boundaries down, but to set the tone for the future. If you said"NO, I do not plan on coming early for the job, I plan on coming at the time when I am supposed to arrive since I have a dog, pr a niece, or a trip planned", Like, being assertive and keeping your boundaries healthy. When you allowed your boundaries down, you freely set the tone of the job to use you for their benefit and make you unhappy. No boundaries=No hppiness.
Hospital settings could be completely different. And for all you know, you could love the clinic setting🤷🏾♀️ It’s hard to give you that advice because everyone is different. I know my problem was/is not know what I really wanted/want to do with my NP degree… If you have a passion for a specific specialty (family, ortho, acute care, dermatology), i say GO FOR IT!
Up to 50 could/would be scheduled on some days. Of course ppl would no show or reschedule but even seeing 40 is wild in a 8hr day if you ask me. But thankfully, this is nothing I have to deal with anymore.

Trauma was Very Good Experience, but the environment was Toxic. The Culture was Toxic Toxic! I left after 2 years and took my Experience with me. There is a Specialty that will take you. You should look back into Ortho. Make sure you highlight your ortho experience from the Ed (basically trauma, MVCs, accidents, etc.) Also, look at inpatient opportunities. One thing that I Love about being inpatient is being done when I'm Done. Chile I'm not doing Any Charting at home. Wishing you All the Best! And Kudos to you for hearing the voice of God and Putting yourSELF FIRST!
Thank you very much for this advice…honestly, thank you 💕
God's blessings for all of your future endeavors, Miss Shelby. ❤
I received that! Amen.
And the same for you.
Thank you for sharing your experience. So glad you had faith and trusted that God had something better in store for you! I’m going through this right now, no job is worth this much stress and anxiety😊
Thank you for watching.
I’m praying you find (or have found) clarity in whatever decision you make. Like you said, “no job is worth this much stress and anxiety”🫶🏾
You are simply AMAZING!!!!!!!! Self care is the most important thing in this world. I am so proud of you for making that decision for YOU!!!
Thank yooooou❤️❤️
I had enough one day after two doctors ticked me off.Simply went and retired with a full pension at age 55,as I had 30 years in the state retirement system, plus 2 yrs deferred retirement.32 years in the Emergency Room, Neurosurgical ICU, Medical ICU, and Trauma ICU which included the Burn Unit, was enough for me.
Damn.. Ur resume looks like ur a medical field Genius.!!
Hi Shelby, thank you so much for sharing. I want to commend you on the courage to follow your heart, and quitting responsibly. I still have a year left in my ADN school, and I am looking ahead. I am also glad that you're learning more about yourself and what makes you happy/unhappy. I hope you'll find your path. Please keep us all posted of your journey. Best of luck!
Hey 🤗
First, I want to wish you the best of luck in finishing ADN school. You’re going to feel so accomplished once it’s over and you’re finally starting your nursing career journey.
Secondly, thank you for watching and thank you for your sweet words. I will definitely keep y’all updated on what’s next for me. For now…I’m just taking it one day at a time☺️
Your video hit - was divine intervention- love your message my sister
Thank you 😊
Wishing you nothing but the best. Life is to short to be unhappy. Stepping out on faith is hard but trust that God has something greater.
Thank you so much💕

@@ShelbyGunby YT randomly recommended this video. I'm glad it did. I was reading up on the nursing shortage and wondering what was next for me. I have been in the nursing field since 2006. I've been an RN for 4 of those years and baby it is not for the weak😫. I have considered opening a daycare due to my growing resentment towards the nursing industry. I'm not an NP but I understood every single one of your VALID complaints. I appreciated your video and this Bible verse. I needed them both. I wish you well with all of your future endeavors. New subbie here❤
@@ShelbyGunby OH and when you said "It wasn't about the money" I felt that. I have told my husband this on several occasions. When I say this,, people look at me like I'm crazy. That is the point I'm currently at. Money is not the end all be all. There are thousands of options out there.
@@tameraweatherspoon2320 Some people actually look at you crazy when you choose you and especially when you choose you over MONEY!
I read something on Instagram that said “burnout is NOT a badge of honor” and boy did that hit home.
P.S. That Bible verse was actually one of a few that I held on to during my whole decision making process of leaving my job❤️
And thanks for subscribing 🤗🤗
Good luck. Be happy and be safe.
There’s too much greed.
Thanks Shelby for your honesty, explaining the real with clarity, and not bowing to the $$$. You look good, sane, and healthy 🦾; we’re glad that you bounced back and put YOU first. Much success to your future and keep God in the center and let Him order your steps. Yes, He will provide 🤲🏽We know your next NP gig will work out better than the latter. You make us all (who aspire to enter the Nursing field) proud 😉 with your level of success thus far❣️
Thanks for sharing your story I am not yet a nurse but I'm working a corporate job and dealing with a lot of what you said all money is not good money but when it starts to affect your mental health and companies take advantage that's where the buck stops currently looking to quit my job
This video encouraged me! I’m there. Thank you so much for your honesty. God will provide.
Kudos to you for keeping yourself first. You are a wise, smart professional 👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you 😊
Choose you baby choose you!! Life is too short to be unhappy.
Happiness will always be key. Thank you💕
RN here too. AND I sooooooooo understand what you’re saying and how you’re feeling. I’m there too! I’ve been there for awhile now. Trust God and His path for you. I left a job a few months ago due to a very toxic work environment. I decided to trust God and I’m at peace now. Your peace and mental health is priceless! They can’t pay enough money for that.
But being at a job that doesn’t fulfill you and you know what you do or bring to the table is not fully appreciated is tough.
I remember days of dreading to go to work and then driving home in tears 😭 after work. I was miserable 😩
It’s just not worth it! I know I’m ready to be done with healthcare and help “care for people” in a different way.
You're my new BFF!!! 80+ hours/week and now I am working on myself.
I wish you the best Shelby, you deserve it. And yes you deserve to be happy 😘
Thank you….I love you💚
Hi shelby, I came across your video and I admire your strength, I am a nurse myself 9 years into this, am on the brink of leaving bedside myself, just gotta finish this assignment, how I wish I had the strength you have, Goodluck on your next adventure:)
Hey and thank you so much for watching it!
9 years? Wow! Nursing is hard work and burnout is REAL😩 Finish this assignment strong and whatever decision you make, rather to leave bedside or to stay, I’m sure will be the BEST decision for YOU💕
Try travel nursing or another speciality
Oh Know how you feel. Thanks for being transparent.
Hello. I went through the same thing in first and second NP jobs. I am now working as a traveling NP/RN and I am happier.
I’m very glad to hear that! 💕
Find out your dream & chase it from here on out!!!!!
So do it if you’re lead to and if you know what you want to do with your NP degree…there are a great deal of ppl who actually enjoy it…
@@ShelbyGunby thank you!
It really depends on how you are introduced to NP career in my personal opinion. If you work at an institution that supports the NP/PA workforce it works a lot better. I will say this it’s sad to hear her experience because where I work really supports our career .
I remember being in NP school and people would ask my classmates why we didn’t pursue FNP program .. my reason was because I knew exact what I wanted to specialize in and I was already marketable as an oncology nurse ( liquid and solid tumor but more of GYN oncology surgery/ medical background)
So post graduation to be honest most of my FNP friends had a really hard time finding a job especially if they didn’t have certifications .
I support her decision as well
Health and wellness is So important!! That sounds so like a traumatic experience and so unfair and unsafe .
Same boat Ronald!
thank you for sharing!! this was big, kudos to you Shelby!! you have to do what's best for YOU! SO HAPPY you are on to better!
Thanks girl! Such a tough but very needed decision and I’m so glad I made it☺️
You are an AMAZING 🤩 person my Shelby🧸 I will truly miss🤍 you. Just know god has another purpose for you coming soon 🚪and you will shine brighter than ever before on your next journey✨🌟✨I wish you nothing but the BEST 🙌🏻
love you bunches and You will always hold a special place in my heart♥️ 😘
Thank you Susy and i love you. I will definitely miss seeing your face💛
My thoughts were the same decided that I definitely would not want to be in the ICU for 30yrs… girl you talking and you sound like me 😩🤣 took me 6 months as well and didn’t want to do primary care! Chile 🤣🤣…
That charting is a killer!!! A mess
Ok I keep editing my comment but I don’t know why we feel so bad when we decide to leave these jobs and the employer don’t feel bad showing us we matter with more help!
Anyways all the best to you! Great video
Girl…these jobs were giving us the blues yet we were so loyal lol. Wishing you all the best as well❤️
Girl, I’ve been there. My mind was going crazy. But God, helped me through.
I wonder about nurse practitioner owned clinics. My friend in the state of Louisiana has one for wellness and nutrition.
Love this! Sorry I’m catching up on your channel. Major kudos to you for showing the not so bright side. Majority always show the opposite. I can’t to see where your journey takes you next. ❤
Thank you 😊
Clinics don’t put patients first when they take advantage of employees.
You'll be fine God takes care of his own
Yes Shelby you are to bless to be stress ❤️ happiness is the key. Your dream job is in God hands waiting to be released 🥰 faith is real.
I receive that momma girl🙌🏾
Chile....at my place, the revolving door moves so fast, I don't bother trying to learn anyone's name. I'm considering so many options. Not quite ready to jump ship cuz bills gotta get paid but I gots to go.....its just too much stress
I stopped trying to learn names for that same reason smh. My motto was, if they stick around long enough i’ll remember it.
And i completely understand about not jumping ship just yet…these bills do not care that we dnt like our job lol
Proud of you girl.
Aaww thank you very much💕
I’ve heard NPs at minute clinics experience better life/work balance. I think they work 3-4 days per week.
Yes, I’ve actually heard the same thing
Chrissy the nurse, make sure you look at your pay check!!! I relied on honesty. It was partly my fault because I didn’t check that I wasn’t paid for my hours. I tried collecting, I was short changed for almost $40k. Never paid me. I was afraid to lose my job so didn’t turn the manager in. I should have… it was years ago already. Once in a while I just wish for Karma. She may have gotten it already…
I heard that they overwork NPs in these Minute Clinics also. Does anyone know if this is true???? Please let me know. Thx.
Sounds like working in psych. Call pts for scheduled telehealth appointment and they’re at Walmart and say can you just call me back later? I’m like I ain’t ya friend to just call you back later 😏
lol I can only imagine
Omg yes! The lack of professionalism and respect is jarring
Very well said! And that’s my ultimate goal, to “find an NP job in a welcoming and supportive environment.” Thank you 😊
Trust the Lord. He's amazing. Nursing was one of the worst jobs I ever had. Put up a cash app in your description.
I would love to chat with you.
You would make a great Professor!!!
Hmm really?🤔 You’re not the first to say that…
Girl, I love this presentation.
I would have quit too. Were you under a contract?
Put it all in God's hand and you cannot go wrong...
Amen 🙏🏾
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps” Proverbs 16:9
Thank you for sharing
Aww you’re more than welcome 😊
Hey beautiful new here! I absolutely feel you💖👍🏾🔔+1
did you work in a clinic or in a hospital? because I want to work for a NP and seeing this video I'm not sure what to do
I worked in a clinic.
So should I try or try to study something else
Hospital settings could be completely different. And for all you know, you could love the clinic setting🤷🏾♀️
It’s hard to give you that advice because everyone is different. I know my problem was/is not know what I really wanted/want to do with my NP degree…
If you have a passion for a specific specialty (family, ortho, acute care, dermatology), i say GO FOR IT!
How could you see 50 or 60 people? How could you see half of that daily? In an 8 hour shift?
Up to 50 could/would be scheduled on some days. Of course ppl would no show or reschedule but even seeing 40 is wild in a 8hr day if you ask me. But thankfully, this is nothing I have to deal with anymore.
Even FNP's are leaving... this is bad. lol
💚
I lasted in ED for 10 whole weeks. It was like a war zone.
That is definitely one way of looking at it! Pure craziness! Where are you working now?
@@ShelbyGunby I am retired now. 72 years old.
amen
Did you work for BWB?
Hey and no I didn’t.
If you would have taken the money you would have still left because nothing would have changed
Can you work at a pharmacy clinic? Those Nps seems very happy with their job.
Believe me they are not! They are overworked one man show 😢
1
They were using you! You stupid!! You did that to yourself!! They took advantage of you when you sign the contract!
Wow, I can tell you are very passionate about your comment; however, I don’t believe I ever said anything about signing a contract…
??
