I wish someone would cover Lebanon's crazy car culture. Lebanese love cars, they have more enthusiast cars per capita than anywhere else. Sports cars, luxury cars, classic cars, etc. Despite economic hardships they find a way to hang on to their passion.
Darn! If only regulations allowed old taxis to run on the roads, we'd still have plenty of classic taxis around. The oldest taxi I've rode in was a 1968 Datsun Cedric back in 2008 before the law banning taxis older than 10 years came into effect. I've ridden in older Peugeot 404 and Mercedes W123 taxis, but those were in the 1980s, so they were not so old then. Hats off to this guy! He's a national treasure, and so is his car.
more content like this please. I daily drive a rusty 240D and it'll be great to see more classic mercedes videos edit: if that engine wasn't rebuilt then im sure that thing drinks ALOT ALOT of oil
How lovely to hear from someone who has been a passenger in his car! Thanks for watching, and commenting! :-) We'd love to hear more about what it was like in his taxi. What route did you travel?
I love the effort and the time put into this. But please use subtitles instead of dubbing: I would love to hear the people talk in theur native language.
Omar is Lebanon natural treasure Also if I am not mistaking another Mercedes’ E230 pass Omar with unbelievable load which I thought is pick up truck . But I was wrong. Mercedes Benz is Lebanon’s nation car and this video I proved it
My older brother had the toy pedal version. I loved it "Politzei" edition. I've my fair share since W123, W124, W126, W202, W203, W204 & W210. My favourite was the W202 C230 Kompressor Sport. Lovely little car. I think BMW or Mercedes straight six is the most reliable as it is naturally balanced. However I do know that, E36 & E46 4 cylinder versions got excellent milage especially the manual gearboxes
Hes happy and still like a champ because of he’s purpose to be able to work at the age of 89. Most of the people may get the retirement at the age of 60 but than what?
I learned to drive a manual in a '61 Ponton 180b. Actually '4 on the tree' was very common on European and British cars of the 50s, 60s, and into the '70s. There were even some vehicles with '5 on the tree'! 🙂
Many say unkind things about Mercedes tailfins. However, they are really a safety feature. From the driver's seat, they mark the rear corners of the car, which you can see while backing up. Try that with most modern cars!
Interesting that this car was purchased by Omar in 1975, at the start of the civil war in Lebanon. Nevertheless, a million km over 60 years averages to about 16,700 km per year. By North American standards, that is not much, particularly for a commercial vehicle.
Tough old cars. I drive a 1980 Mercedes 240d manual w123 here in usa between North Carolina Tennesse and georgia. Slow as Xmas. Tough. I can use Jb Weld. Duct tape. Silicone. Wire. Coins. And zip ties to keep it running.
Mercedes should renovate his car and create a documentary about him
I'm pretty sure that the king will rather keep his old beast. 😅
But I like the idea!
Agree
If they renovate it at their current standards it will break in a few months
Restoration is the right word
Absolutely
I can't believe I'm watching something positive for once about Lebanon.
Finally a topic that has nothing to do with politics and the economic crisis.
Thanks a lot. Maybe you should subscribe our channel 😉
@@DWREV I searched for Lebanon, not for cars. 😊

these great mercedes cabs
Someone who’s been driving a cab for that long has every right to tell EVERYONE to learn how to drive 😂

Lebanon is a nice country and rich in culture and landscape ❤
الله حيو
Is it also rich in fanaticism and racism?
@@donbabilio8298 of course there has to be a negative and ignorant comment here.
DW needs to show these videos to Mercedes leadership to go back to their old ways

The old Mercedes are fantastic, i drive my 350 SE from 73 and is still running without trouble❤❤
Lebanon has a long love story with Mercedes....
Lebanon My country ❤️🇱🇧❤️
It looks beautiful.
Beautiful man. Beautiful car.
هيدا لبنان 🇱🇧 الأصالة والتميز
He is sure a legend.
Mercedes should honor this man in some way. Perhaps a new car for him, or rebuild this one.
It would be a fitting homage To a Mercedes legend.😊
Restoring it instead of giving a new one
اعرف هذا الشخص معرفة شخصية واعرف ابنه ومنزله وسيارته ما زالت معه.❤😊
I'm a life long fan of the W123, but have always wanted a W110
That was awesome !
Simply superb! ❤

This mercedes is awesome
Loved the video 👍
Mercedes German tiger excels in work and performance 😊
You know, if Mercedes offered him a brand new E Class in exchange for this machine I bet he would decline.
because it will not live over driving on emtpy tank and refuelling with 5L canister :D
Yeah he will. Thought the same as well. 👍
He would, sell the new Mercedes and buy a bunch of spares for his classic
Respects from Kashmir Pakistan Umar.🇵🇰❤

Where does passenger suit case go when the boot is full of car parts?
There's plenty of room there you yourself might be able to fit in there
What a sweet man! How can you not love him
May Allah restore the country from its current financial turmoil and inflation ameen
Omar is brilliant
World needs more people like omar. " He loves everybody and everybody loves him"

AMAZING MACHINE
الف الف مبروك يا اخي بارك الله فيك وبارك في لبنان
Born in 1963. That‘s it. (Compare to Porsche 911 model, W100 „Der grosse Mercedes“ 600, several Italian dreamcars, .. too much to list) 😉😊
It means that oldtimer cars have best quality....
Fantastic man and car❤❤❤
The legendary is driving a legend
Well said
They are both legends!❤
The legend
Heckfloss!!!!
I owned one of those years age, the "4 on the tree' gear shift is something that I have never seen in any other car.
Peugeot 504.

In France they now have a law called SCHLABOUBVE, from next year you can only drive 5000 KM with a combustion engine.
Ah that's boring
this man is an absolute hazard to the streets but god would i fight for his right to keep at it
Firstly if you noticed he drives very slow, second do you see any major accident damage on his car that he drives for decades?
Guy could drive with his eyes shut I'd worry about the young'uns who don't even have a license
I worry about the new punks in the street who should not have a license before I worry about this guy...
Half the time he wasn't even looking at the road but rather facing the camera haha or busy talking to the crew behind haha 🤪😂🤣 scary lol!
That's true 😄
You should you should see me drinking coffee talking on my phone and lighting the cigarette while driving
GREAT!
Mercedes should give him brand new one as a complementary gift
What a fn legend
Back in the days when engineers designed the cars, not the marketing department.
Nearly 70 years of experience? Omar is more of a classic than the 110.
You can say that again!

What is the correct engine for this car? I think he said the engine was almost as old as car indicating replacing? He bought it used in 1970s?

It runs... But the fuel sender and the instrument cluster seems to be dead because the car runs out of fuel with no further notice
Diesel or gasoline?

He's wearing an Australian NRL teams beanie. Penrith PANTHERS have supports in Lebanon lol
😆

Imperial (Chrysler) hood ornament.
Yes, I noticed that too.

They don’t make such cars anymore. Today’s cars are all about gimmicks and sensors. And everything will be gone with the advent of EVs
Everything will become a money-pit at the end of the warranty!
Its a rust free zone.
Incrível a sua historia....mas já não deveria conduzir, a ver pelo video, está meio perigoso, visão já não é o que era🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
Penrith panthers beanie tho 😂
