This took me back to childhood in the 60s when my father had a succession of "cooking" Mercs including one of these; I couldn't see at the time why he chose them when he could have had a much faster, leather-lined Jag or Rover for much the same price. But then the Mercs never broke down and had a huge amount of space (just as well, because the floaty ride meant that our dog who was prone to carsickness had to sit on the front passenger seat, with the rest of us all crammed in the back). And the strange thermometer-style speedometer, and the view down the bonnet to the gunsight-like star...in retrospect it was a wonderful thing, and thank you for bringing it back so eloquently. Having seen your Giulia Super review (in the early 70s one of our friends had one of those, but being nearly 80 she didn't drive it quite as fast as you) I was pleasantly surprised by your enthusiasm for the Mercedes which could hardly be more different. Whether or not you have only recently passed your driving test (as the previous comment suggests), this is an excellent review and I hope you do many more. What about one of those old Rover 90s with suicide doors that make the W110 Merc look cheap and flashy?
Thank you very much for the kind words David, it's great to read about your experiences of the car. Cars of this type carry a past and that's part of what makes them special - a Rover 90 would be fabulous if I can get ahold of one!
I’m American and just bought my first one! I love it for all the reasons you mention here! I’m 36 and retired so I’m in no hurry it’s also my 3rd 190c or 190 dc as I have restorations for children. Great cars!!! Very much over looked!
If you enjoyed that, please make sure to subscribe for upcoming classic car reviews! Thanks for watching 🙂 (Correction - the car runs on a single Solex carb and not fuel injection)
I have driven a few of these over the years. Nice old Mercs. My brother has a huge collection of Fintails, W108s 250s, 280s inc 3.5 v8s. He used to road rally a 220 SEB and won a heap of trophy’s with that car.
Ashraf on Cars Ohh yes, Ahm he has a rather sizeable car collection. Everything from classic Mercs Pontons, Finnies, 220 coupe, 250 SL, the 280s, Jags, Range Rovers, Fiats (including 130 coupes, Lancia Flaminia Gt/Delta Integrale, Alfa’s inc 1600 Ti and 1300 Ti Giulia, let alone a Riley special (ex Aus GP). It could be said he is somewhat eccentric or perhaps it’s that he has ecclectic taste. I keep telling him that his black 280 3.5 is mine. He has a few of them afterall.
That is an absolutely incredible car. Funny how it carries 1965 plates, and yet it dates from 1963, but it was much more common for that sort of thing to happen back in the day! Superb review, sir.
@@AshrafonCars I found your vid cause I found one at auction. I'm looking at it tomorrow. www.grays.com/lot/0001-7782161/classic-cars/mercedes-benz-190c-manual-sedan?tab=FAQ%27s
I bought a 190C new at the Sindelfingen factory, in June 1964.........ordered from Australia and tax free .......designed by engineers then. The entire MB range now appears to be designed by accountants...sadly. Stunning car, Les Griffiths
Great review. Keep it up. Love these classic Merc. I have a W123 manual and W124 auto. Both are more than 30 years old and I daily drive them. They both have that spring loaded seats which can't find in nowadays car.
Performs best on a motorway at 100 km/h. Doing that you can drive it from the Norwegian North Cape to Corinth in Greece without any problems. These engines are bulletproof.
It's like the E30 M3, who would of thought that they would denote the price they command today. Back then they where special but i know a gent whom had one as a company car
If you think that a 190c is slow, you should test-drive a 190Dc 😆 0-60 in 29 sec and 0-60 in 33 sec with automatic transmission 🏁 But as you noticed, you don't own these car for the acceleration, they are just fantastic cars in other ways 💙
my brother had a 1965 190dc and yes, it was a 30 second 0-60 car but the weird thing about it was that acceleration was the same whether the car was completely empty with just the driver, or fully loaded with 4 adults and their luggage in the trunk. under the right conditions that car could hit 70mph but it was happiest cruising the open highway at 60-65 getting close to 50mpg on flat terrain. excellent fuel economy for such a heavy, floaty boaty car.
Only some 6 cylinders had petrol fuel injection. 220seb and 300seb. The comments about these mercs being out of their depth on the motorways does not apply to the petrol injected versions. Easy cruise at 80mph and much more torque.

The interior is to die for! All that chrome inside, on the dashboard, etc. To me, that is definitely a lost art! And the seats seem very comfortable
Elegant descriptions and truly come from the heart of the joys of driving a Mercedes.
My dad had a 1967 200. It was beautiful and it was something we all loved and trusted. It was part of the family.
One of the best Benz ever built ❤

Wow...a 280 V8! Must be quite a thing. Sounds like a man of taste!

@@AshrafonCars , I did enjoy it very much! I don't think I have ever seen a Fintail reviewed before, so it was a joy.
Beautiful car and one of your best reviews so far! 👍👍👍👍
Thanks a lot man! Glad you liked it, probably took me the longest to edit 🤣
What a fantastic vid, capturing the excitement of driving a piece of automotive history. Again, GREAT VID Thank you!!

just bought a 66 200 gasser. rough shape but solid. hope to have it running and driving before winter
Nice, good luck with it
Lovely old thing! My pal has got the 200 with twin carbs and a floor shift. It's not much faster though!
So cool - quick they are not! 😆
I had a 23o six.😍😍😍😎
In THIS car, I learned driving with 13 in Bavaria, Germany.

Exactly right. The cars are the same, but somehow the change in surroundings makes us want them!

One small mistake. The 190 didn't have fuel injection.
These cars surely weren't standard with fuel injection, were they?
I think some came with carbs and others had injection - this is one of those
@@AshrafonCars no, otherwise they would've had an E to denote einsprits. Like my W123 230E

fuel injected? liiks like a carby to me. same donk as the 190sl except the 190sl had twin webbers
Yep you're right, mistake on my part - it runs on a Solex carb
