  • From Late Models, the second generation driver launched a NASCAR career and soon found success on a myriad of raceways across America. This led to opportunities that he couldn't turn down, but some that left him with regret. From replacing the great Harry Gant, to getting fired at Alliance, to his up and down tenure at Jasper Racing, Pressley tells all. He also explains how one rivalry spelled the end for his first Cup Series ride.

I worked for Alliance at the Wytheville VA location. They had a business meeting/cookout and invited Robert. I missed the memo that the event was suit and tie...I showed up in boots and jeans, and felt way out of place. Robert was of course dressed down as well...he says ...come with me. We went outside...grabbed a six pack (each) out of the cooler and walked to a horseshoe pit on the property...and stayed there all day long. Wound up a great, laid back day of fun and relaxing conversation (and a little buzz) with Robert...been a fan ever since!

Jr., you have become one of the best interviewers in NASCAR. You know your stuff, it is obvious that you research your guests, you ask great leading questions, and, best of all, you then let your quests talk. Thank you. Us oldsters very much appreciate your archiving the sport as you do, and down the road younger generations will appreciate it, too.

I was a HUGE Robert Pressley fan in his Busch days. I never knew Brad was a part of his break into NASCAR I didn't realize Brad's root were that deep with the sport. I have a whole new respect for him now. Makes even more sense now that JTG Daugherty signed Ryan Preece.

This was so good to hear Robert talk about Brad Daugherty, I took my son to the Charlotte race and for the first time had passes for the pits and hotpasses, my son was only 6 years old and he wanted to get a picture with a driver well we never got the chance they where all busy for the race so walking through the pits and we came across the 47 cars pit box and Brad Daugherty stopped what he was doing picked him up my son which was over 6th in the air and carried him around the pit box showed him everything, gave him some lug nuts and signed his shirt!! As hard as I was working to get the attention of a driver to make the trip something special for my son and had not really been successful in doing so that moment he came up and picked my kid up was one of the greatest moments ever in this lifetime for me. The smile my kid had was worth more then anything I could ever own and I wish I had the opportunity to thank Brad again because my kid has never forgot about that moment and he is 13 now and talks about it when we see brad on tv!!! It was a very humbling and I am forever greatful for the 10mins he took to make lasting memories for myself and my son!! I have the upmost respect for Brad and this world could use more like him!!! Teared up just thinking about that moment

I was wrenching/pit crew for a couple of Busch teams in '89 and Brad would be at the races when he wasn't handling his NBA stuff. I do recall Robert's team getting some help here and there and using other crew members to help pit the car at some races.
Some of "my" team guys went to dinner with Robert's team with Brad at a Myrtle Beach race. Brad foot the bill for all of us. He (Brad) was a true class act, just "one of the guys" as well as Robert and his guy's. Good times back then, until they turned racing into a circus with a bunch of (kid) clowns with no respect.

Why does Jr keep saying Xfinity series instead of Winston or whatever the Sponsor was at the time? Saying what the actual series name was at the time gives a basis of recognition and dates the time of what he's talking about. Constantly saying Xfinity gives the impression that your promoting Xfinity instead of being an objective observer IMHO. Was his dad a 7 time Winston cup champion or a 7 time "Xfinity" champion.
