To remove the smoke scent feom anything you salvage go to home depot and buy a gallon of Odo-Ban. Fire restoration companies use it to remove the smoke smell. I like the original eucalyptus scent. Throw a 1/2 cup to 1 cup in a large load at the rinse cycle and then rinse one extra time and it will smell fresh and clean! I used it after I had an apartment fire and it is amazing stuff.
I've been thinking of you all day after learning about the fire. I can't imagine what you're going thru. My prayers are with you all. Cherish the small victories. ((Hugs))
You know , a little story , My sister is quite the sewer , she makes al kinds of things , just because she can . Our Dad past away and we were all grieving as we do and I listened to your losses and heard you grieving the loss of your precious Four Legged children (pets) . Now as the story continues , sewing ... my sister gathered our Dads favourite shirts ( he lived with his 3 children over the years) so each had cloths of his. Now I would think AFTER the fire, and being at the laundry , you may have cloths that you liked but are burnt in one spot or another as the Pets favorite blanket or bed cover. Now my sister , being a sew adict , cut and sewed all siblings a throw blanket that was of Dads cloths , you may be of same or pets blanket or even Favorite cloths of your own to remind of PRE FIRE , how life changed but you have good memories each day . God bless you , your remaining pets and your husband.
Thank you for the great tip! I didn’t know that. I did use some oxi clean. The fabrics that were saved come pretty clean although some were a bit scorched. I plan to make a scrappy quilt with what is salvaged.
Bless you as you recover. I worked at a drycleaners for 5 years. Sometimes we would get Fire Orders. The clothes would clean up without any smell. Also check your insurance. It might cover your cleaning. Take care. Stay strong!!!
Praying and know that you will be winners in this life experience - this door was closed for a new and better one to bring you infinite blessings of good.
You are all in my prayers. The loss of your home and pets, i have no words! It's so good to see you smile for a moment, though. I know you're going to continue content, but I've already started to go back and re-watch your old content, too. Seems like a small way we can offer some support and encouragement during this time.
Omg Marnae , thank goodness you and Jim are both ok, how did it happen? Don’t worry about the quilt, it’s more important for you to deal with what’s happening. All my love to you and Jim xxx😊
I have been feeling so bad after hearing your video about your house fire. I am glad to see a smile on your face. Now, it is time to look to your future.
I am very happy for the small victories and pray for more to come, small and large! Keep the updates coming, prayers for y’all and big hugs are continuing!!! ♥️🤗🙏🏻
Ive used cheap vodka soak and air dry to remove musty smells from vintage fabric. They use vodka in a spray bottle on Brodway, New york to freshen their stage costumes. If the smell is still there maybe down the road this tip could help.
Thank you! I used two pods at a time of Tide with Downy and also oxy clean. It worked really well. no smoke smell. We also pre-rinsed most of the fabric. It was a mess and a lot of work but worth saving what I could. Thankfully the laundry mat had a broom and mop in there so I could clean up when we were done.
You can buy stuff to get smoke smell out of fabric and clothes. My daughter had to use it. Two daughters had their homes burn down. So sad for anyone. Prayers for you guys. Its a terrible thing to happen. God bless you all.
Omg! I just discovered your channel today and I’m crying over the loss of your pets. It’s all devastating. I’m so sorry. May the small victory in salvaged fabric bring you hope and perseverance. Hugs.
Thank you! No sewing machines were spared. I had 7 sewing machines and I loved them all! My friends and family would come over as I had extra machines for all to sew. It was a happy place!
It's Good to see you pushing on with your dreams. You may find an enzyme detergent like napisan will help remove the smoke from your fabric. Best of luck. Bronwyn
Hi Marnae, I cannot believe the losses you just had. Your pets, home, everything! Is there an address I can send some Tilda fabric to you?
