Der große Bob Dylan mit einer eigenwilligen Interpretation des Gershwin-Klassikers "Soon" aus einem Broadway-Musical der Dreißiger Jahre. Nobody sings Gershwin like Dylan!
I wonder how many rockers would dare to stand on a stage in front of that kind of audience and perform a Gershwin tune with so much grace and sweetness. Amazing! This guy is unbelievable.
Dylan "gets" Gershwin the way other songwriters "get" Dylan. Greatness recognizes greatness. That recognition is one of the factors that made Gershwin AND Dylan great.
this is in my top ten BD performances, including songs like a rolling stone '66, maggies farm '65. dont think twice ' 74. pretty peggy-o '88. tangled up in blue '75 and idiot wind '76.
max lundqvist i saw him play Maggie's Farm live in 1965, september 3, at the Hollywood Bowl. I saw him play Don't Think Twice live in 1974 during the acoustic set at the LA Forum, Before the Flood tour, February 14. Maggie's Farm made the most powerful impression on me, it still rings in my head the way it sounded that night. i don't know why but it stands out more than any other song at that very awesome concert which virtually debuted Desolation Row and Ballad of a Thin Man. The actual debut was about 6 days earlier at Forest Hills (on 8/28), no one had ever heard those songs before, Highway 61 Revisited was released two days later. But for us at the Hollywood Bowl, it was a virtual debut, no one had heard the Highway 61 Rev. songs until that night. Maggie's Farm was well know by then, really stands out in my mind.
This was a concert at Brooklyn Academy of Music in NYC on 11 March 1987 , celebrating the 50th anniversary of the death George Gershwin , great pianist and composer who died at 38 due a brain tumor .
LOL, have never heard folk music... I understand perfectly your statement, but how annoying to listen even 1 minute of joni's james version. And why? Because everything is well understood from the beginning until the end. And john lennon had it right talking about tension in the chords. Joni's James has a beautiful voice and sings easy listening music, bob is very rough and hardly listenable sometime, but it offers another perception of what is music. That's totally different!!!
