This is what the British thought would happen when it started snowing in England
Haha
Ahh British and England. Foreigners eh?
of course I'm foreign, I wouldn't be finding it funny otherwise
The English are from England, the British are from England, Scotland, Irland, Wales and maybe even The Isle Of Man... if you count them as people.
Too right, Vmkkith!
Also, as an Englishman - no, I do not count the Welsh, Scottish, Irish or The Manx as "people", GECK ;P
Summary
It's one of them games that really keeps you on your toes. Not only do you have to manage the gathering of the vital resources but you also make the laws of the land such as allowing child labour and many others.
The story unfolds as you discover other settlements and everything usually ends up with you having to make a crucial decision about life or death. Sometimes I had to deny survivors refuge in my city, we just could not spare the food or buildings, I once allowed 34 children to perish in the cold, I felt good :(
The game ran fine but I did read that some slower systems are having a few frame drops so read the specs before you buy.
It's a great City builder/Survival game that is well put together and a joy to play, well worth the £25.
you should pin your comment xd
mack saw an add on this one watched through the whole thing for you
looks awesome I've been saving my money for a while and all I bought was valiant hearts this might be my next game after finish valiant hearts
What a pleasant surprise.
This game was totally not what I thought it was.
Thanks Mack.
Thanks for the review Mack, managed to pick this up through Green Man for just under £20 with their spring sale code. Nice one 😀
1:42 "You are the last city on Earth and all you have is an old wonky generator to keep you warm . You have to supply it with coal. You have to build mines to get the coal"
Newcastle Simulator. I see why Mac likes it. :D
Sunny Jim i read that as "old lady wonker"
That'll be an 'old Meg' Freudian slip then?
Its truly a experience. Got near the endgame and oh boy this is thrilling and fun and tough. Love it
Yeah, its a hard game but very rewarding.
Me: "I wonder what would've happen if Ciri failed to defeat the White Frost?"
11bit Studios: "Hold my beer"
Yeah basically... Very underrated comment by the way. 👍
Misused meme
This is so funny cause I apparently watched this a yr ago but just now I went to like the comment and realized I already like it. LMAO that just made my night.
“Only workers and engineers can work.” Not in my play through...
kids have to do something
Child labor to its finest.
This game is great. In every other city builder, you were the wanker playing around with the people. Here you were the person with the impossible task trying of keep humanity alive. It isn't goofy fun it actually hits marrow deep.
Damn Mack you have great timing. Just seen this on steam and was wondering if it was worth a buy. Thanks for vid. Im glad I became a patreon today to you are def worth it.
This game is basically Finland during winter, except that we don't die in -25 degrees.
nobody dies in -25 degrees they die in -50 degrees in frostpunk
@@francegamer first of all it was a joke lol, and secondly why the hell are you replying to an 11 month old comment
@@Sahtoovi Is it written in the stars that he can't reply to an 11 month old comment?
@@methamphetamememcmeth3422 Yes it is
@@Sahtoovi no
Initially I got this during a Steam sale (how appropriate), and figured it'd be a fun, little casual city builder with pretty visuals. 8 hours later, I realized 11 Bit was dead serious. This is not a game I can just play for a few minutes at a time. When I finally got to The Storm, I was micromanaging every free worker who came out of the infirmaries and on the edge of my seat looking at the razor margin of coal production to expenditure. It's intense.
Cutscenes sound alot like the tunes in 28 days later.
@@TheOfficiaITristam Pretty sure thats the exact track from the beginning of 28 weeks later
@@TheOfficiaITristam I mean when has a music ripoff allegation ever come to fruition
For those not knowing, try "This War of mine" as well, coming from this developer. Another atmospheric masterpiece. Been waiting for Frostpunk for months now and I have been playing since launch. I have not finished the first mission on normal because of the following reasons: 1. I get banished or 2. I am not satisfied with how the city is late game. It's hard to balance resources/people/ and the temptation to restart the game is HIGH! :). This game is not easy.
love this guy
I've been watching this game in development for a while and I got it on launch day and it so feels like a game that would of been made during the C&C and AOE days. Awesome game and an honest review. Thanks as always Mack!
That soundtrack reminds me a lot to "In the house, in a heartbeat" from 28days later ost.
Looks pretty cool, art team did an awesome job.
Nah, everyone did an awesome job ;)
Good lord I can’t believe it took me this long to realize the title is the antithesis of steampunk!
this seems like a city building game version of the scenario in the movie ''snowpiercer'' which is great
I wan't more games where it's cold and everyone is dying.
I guess you must be Canadian.
I mean Russia more suits the cold and people passing.
Try Banished. It's somewhat of a spiritual successor to this game, but with no research, an endless mode, changing seasons, harder difficulty, larger maps, no real story and much lower hardware requirements. Great game, I enjoyed it a lot, but it's a very different beast than Frostpunk. Banished is a slow burn of dread, Frostpunk on the other hand is a quick, dynamic experience that keeps you glued to the screen.
During one session of Banished, I had a wonderfully working little settlement, every kid was at school, farms and orchards were producing more food than my people could eat, trade was flourishing, I even had some livestock. Then the storm came, tornadoes. They destroyed the orchards and most fields, killed the animals, destroyed every last bit of food, tools and clothing I had in storage buildings - and they hit the school, killing every single child in town.
People were homeless, childless, had no food, no tools, no source of food. What saved me was one tiny detail: Just before the storm came, I had transferred a large amount of fruits from the orchards to the trade post. That's the one place that survived and this fruit fed the survivors, allowing them to carry on. Winters were merciless without clothes, work was slow without tools, it took years until food production was going again and slowly, the settlement recovered. It never reached its old numbers again however, its previous wealth. An entire generation had been wiped out, people grew old and died while few kids were born. The village soldiered on, but it stagnated, barely got by. I did however manage to keep almost everyone who survived the storm alive until they died of old age, that's what I'm most proud of.
Snow piercer was a good movie
no1DdC Woaaaaa.. After reading your comment I only have one thing to say: "In 2 seconds I'm going to check out Banished" :D
Belgium has declared loot boxes gambling.
Good news!
Igor Sandu defenitely. Time to celebrate by playing day of infamy all night since it’s free weekend.
Who asked?
1:17 sounds just like "In a Heartbeat" from the 28 Days Later OST
28 Weeks later, and yep that's it or a version of it rather.
I always love the satisfaction of end game in Frostpunk just seeing this colossal city self sustaining itself is a joy.
The final push for survival is really exciting..
Better concept than most in its genre.
I did not expect to laugh. They way you describe the uprising is just hilarious
When it's winter and your pc is running at 80° degrees FrostPunk
Here I am again watching your review 2 days after I got the game!
Hey Mack,
If you had to choose between this and Battletech to pick up on the Steam Summer Sale which would you recommend? I can only get one :/
Thanks for the review! Definitely helped me decide if I wanted to purchase the game :)
Subscribed!
I sent children back to the city from the cave they where hiding in without supervision, cause i thought i need the scouts to carry on, but there wasnt anything to be found after that, i didnt know that the store storm was that harsh and it came shortly after i send the children back and they had no chance of arriving in the city in time.
That really got to me.
A really good game and that intro is amazing. Love the art style and soundtrack.
Yeah just started playing a couple days ago and it has definitely gotten its hooks in. So much despair and yet so much fun.
This is one on my wishlist. Glad the temptation is worth buying.
Great review. Gonna buy this. :)
@Worth A Buy Mack thanks for your insight on the game! I choosed to give the priority to battletech because i read about Frostpunk scenarios with fixed endings (don't want to spoil to others but i read that the day X they end) so i went for the long content road. After playing it do you think it has the potential to add a sandbox/endless mode?
that intro song is basically the 28days later theme song
Played this game and definitely agree. Play hours are limited but the game has a certain quality and detail to it which I absolutely loved. Besides you can try different approaches and different difficulties.
Would have like if they had some sort of randomiser that offered generated objectives/map layouts/etc. Personally I would have loved a little bit of combat in the mix as well. Still, good game.
Mack, With all these Worthabuys you really are spoiling us! (ferrero rocher accent)
Wow I actually just found out about this game today and was wondering if you were going to wab it. Thanks Mack probably going to pick this up
been watching your WAB for a while(seen it all) and let me say. THANK U. just got this game via your link. saved me a few bucks so thank u again.
Hey you crazy dude with the cool english accent! I watch your content mostly on my mobile on the way to work and i realy realy realy like that you dont put ads every 3 minutes in your video! I hate that and watch these videos on my pc with adblock on so please keep it like this ;-) sincerly a swiss guy
Edit: and keep up the good honest reviews! Its rare these days to have content like yours that is just on spot with the video title
I just bought it on Steam, cant wait until it finishes downloading and start playing! Man, mack, you are great, your review truly made me buy this game, thank you for this awesome review.
I honestly love your reviews man keep it up
You're so right about the dearth quality singleplayer games. It's really a bummer when I get home from work, and sit down, and think "my mates aren't online, what the fuck am I going to play?"
I really need Vampyr to come out
+1 sup from me, love the accent and the commentary on the game. Gave me quite a chuckle
Music in that cutscene is pretty familiar. .
21 days later ?
What is this, Hollywood?
The inception theme in this game somewhere?
question:when a game supports wheel and pedals.. does it work on all of them... even the cheaper ones?
this review helped me push that final step into game purchase. thanks for the work * b * (this is a thumb up for u)
Thanks Mack, keep up the great vids mate!
Thanks for the review. It secured my purchase of the game which is on sale on steam at the moment.
I can imagine Mack's church being, "The Temple of the Holy Fuego"
Frostpunk AKA Eastern Canada in winter. I'm living the dream! LOL
5:26
I would not expect anything else from Mack xD
Winter is coming!
Never thought I'd hear a game review by davos seaworth
Ok the Ending is awesome, i love this idea :D
Just right about me falling asleep, thanks Mack
Good shit.
I saw a video about morality in this game. Very well done👍
I was waiting for this review, although I have to admit, this is one time I broke my "I Do No Pre-Order" idea and I bought it a day or two before release, based on your early look at it, and just as important, I trusted the devs to get it right.
I was waiting for your review on this Thanks mack. I heard the scenarios get old fast though
Thanks for the brilliant review! Just finished the first campaign after a few tries... wow! Breathtaking drama.
Some of the best reviews on YT for sure, please keep up this form of content. How often are you on Twitch?
I stream mainly on UA-cam

"First we put our children to work", "Parents lost their children" haha XD 8:47
Bought it because your review, Thanks!
Frost Poke? Sounds good
8:39 Hahaha! This is HILARIOUS!
Very cool! When its on PS4 I will buy this.
Thanks Mak'
This will prolly be my next new game, cheers dude!
is this game repayable ?
like can i sink in hundreds of hours, or do i see mostly everything in first go `= ?
I gotta replay this. I actually survived the storm on my first try with only 45 dead (of 472 population, volunteers btw...), and didn't build a single automaton. Need to try all the other routes of play!
Such an amazing game tbh, best I've played in years even!
Nice job with this one. Looks really interesting.
Man, I love your videos, you sassy passionate bastard! This game sounds awesome!
You had me at David Koresh.
Mack thx for the review. You are very accurate what the game truly is about and how the playstyle is.
Reminds of Surviving Mars. The only "enemy" is how inhospitable the environment is to your very existance. I'm in!
The soundtrack reminds of 28 days later
Just got this game at a discount on Steam and it's just great! It's super unique and it's tuned in a way to keep you always thinking...it's like being on the verge of "I got this-NO I MIGHT HAVE NOT GOT IT ACTUALLY"
Yes what a great review. Really consider buying it.
Thanks. Was waiting for your review to Buy. Downloading it now. Thanks and Best Regards.
Nice! just got off work and I get to watch a WAB!
this looks awesome, will be buying at some point :)
This game looks awesome graphically. I'm not a fan of city builders in general, but this has me intrigued.
now when ever i go to buy a game i check this channel thank you so much every game ive purchased is now Worth a Buy
@Worth a Buy whats the name of the outro music? :)
Dude, you have a fantastic narrating voice! You should look into a career in audio books. Seriously... Great video btw! I'm looking forward to playing this one.
7:07 the generator starts overheating, seems like a nice tradeoff when it's gonna freeze anyway haha :p
I love the idea of these games but the reality for me ,is I get that excited about watching the animations on something I have built that i forget to do the important things and everyone dies ,as a retro review i bought gothic 1,2 and 3 the other day and i am playing through Gothic 1 now ,for when it was made it's quite impressive and could be worth a buy maybe ?
This always seemed like a cool game. And now Mack confirmed it!
Excellent review. Very helpful indeed.
great review Mack keep em coming :)
I beat it my first try with 600+ people. Went full on religious at the end, though I didn't need to, its pretty easy to spam religious building's special abilities to take care of public opinion. The thing that got me was it didn't tell you you couldn't produce food during the storm. I figured hunters might not be able to range, but your steam powered green houses totally shouldn't have stopped working for no reason. It didn't matter in the end though, my people survived without any food for like 6/7 days straight. It was kinda stupid, I was waiting for a cannibalism choice, but it never came to that. My city survived with 500 people starving and 300 sick, but it never really went over the edge to massive death I thought it would have. I didn't have a single death in the storm thanks to 100% housing, it was almost too easy!
Sorry for the gameplay recap, I just finished and am pretty excited...
I heard about this game from your video:
"Ixion Review - Find a new home for humanity."
It looks a cool game :)
even people of the last city under extinction still got shorter work hour than my actual work hour.
I bought the game because of your review Mac, thank you!
I just started playing this game on game pass and I absolutely agree and enjoyed this whole review.
Been waiting on this video a couple of days, whats coming next?
MAC! MAC! What the fuck?! Comics Sans at end? *Ding* *Ding* *Ding*!
Love your videos Mack and I got this game straight after you posted the video because of your great review and it has been one of the best games I have played in years unlike all the shite released these days.
I have just seen there is quite an exciting expansion pack just released for the game, will you be playing it and giving it your thoughts?
