    This is personally my GOTY, such an immersive game that lets you be CREATIVE on how you tackle quests and obstacles in your path. There were so many moments where I was like, "Can I do this?" And tried it out and could! Where other games would restrict you or the creators wouldn't think too much about it, this game let's you go out and be creative as you'd like. Oh man, just go try the game for yourself. It's the best purchase you'll make this year.

      My Game of the Year as well.
      If it were put out on the Switch, guaranteed win ;^) .
      It is on a few lists, but since it isn’t well known or publicized, it doesn’t really have a shot.
      It sold it’s million copies on a 2 million budget with a 20 person dev team. It may sell a couple more (million), which is exactly what jump started Bioware. Small team of 15 on Baldur’s Gate 1, then a sequel that was even better, then bam, more publicity, Neverwinter Nights, KotOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect (all before EA bought them), Dragonage: Origins (completed before EA bought them), so the future for Lariam looks bright indeed; especially if loot crate legislation makes them (rng microtransactions) go the way of the dodo.

    @Worth A Buy, Mack, one more good thing about this game, it has single player local co-op. You have to use controllers so you both can play at once but I just plug in two xbox controllers and start dual screening it. You can even do borderless window mode if you have dual monitors and slide things around so one person's view is on one monitor the other persons on the other.

      It has split screen for two players. No need for other setups unless you wanted to go for 4 players total. But there's so many combinations you can do. LAN, two local with two others online, split screen... they went all out.

    I love playing this game with a controller, makes the camera so much easier to control if you're not getting the mouse movements down quickly, also less hot keys you have to remember lol. Id like to note that if you want to play couch co op with someone else using controllers, make sure that the mouse / keyboard setting keys are all set to default. Last tip, you can "hide" your helmet on your character using a remote control, you just have to wait to reach the boat and interact with the mirror to change your appearance, here you can "hide" the helmet. ENJOY!

    In 2017, this is the game that puts the rest to shame.

    • @gamersinger5118
      @gamersinger5118 6 років тому

      Jeff Vella
      RPGs maybe but not games in general as that is subjective.

    • @jeffvella9765
      @jeffvella9765 6 років тому

      I disagree, considering the lack of content the other games have, this game puts them to shame.
      I have spent around 300 hrs on it and never did I feel I was doing the same thing.
      It uses good story telling and intrigue combined with the desire to be well prepared to smooth the repetitive aspects of an RPG game like inventory management/equipment replacement and such.
      You need to look at games on level of content for price not on genre when deciding which game is better.
      In this case it is better by a mile for a cheaper price.

    • @gamersinger5118
      @gamersinger5118 6 років тому

      Jeff Vella
      You should have specified about content for price then. That I won't necessarily argue as these kinds of games are known for incredible amounts of content and for such a cheap price it is more than worth it.

    • @jeffvella9765
      @jeffvella9765 6 років тому

      I did not need to specify that I am talking about content at all since it is implied because the meaning of content is effort put into making the game better at what it does.
      So content in an RPG is story and immersion + polished combat.
      Content in an other genre say a multiplayer FPS, is how many maps you have, how balanced are the maps, good shooting experiences, how meaty are the guns, how strategy and team work works, how many mods there are, editor availability for players to create/modify their own maps, server dedicated hosting availability.
      EG:
      UT2004 is a Multiplayer FPS with insane amount of content even more then Divinity OS 2.
      In UT2004, fans even made a Star Wars game mode with light sabers and speeders that is how much content potential that game has.
      So your point about games in general, falling short to meet Dimity OS2 level of content in 2017 just because it is an RPG is flawed.
      Level of Content applies in all games, just not on the same aspects.
      In 2017 unfortunately no game even came close to Divinity OS2 level of content.
      They should feel ashamed.

    • @gamersinger5118
      @gamersinger5118 6 років тому

      Jeff Vella
      I wasn't implying that you had to. Just that it would have helped create a clearer picture of what you meant. By your own personal perception on the subject that may be so but everybody looks at things differently. For instance I find overall game design to be the deciding factor for my personal favorite games since content alone is subjective and quality varies throughout. Breath of The Wild and Persona 5 were both exceptional in those areas and are my picks for the best games I played in 2017. Haven't played the Divinity series yet but I expect them to be really something special when I finally do though it would be hard to find the time to play such content heavy games for me. I will take my time though and hopefully I can stick with them.

    Worth mentioning that most quests actually got multiple ways to be solved. If you kill an NPC for example you needed talk to, you sometimes can talk to someone else instead, or an animal who is nearby (with the right skill of course), or an item in his backpack gives you a hint to go on etc.

    I really like how well-thought through everything is in this game. Attention to detail is amazing. I did play the first game and it is just as awesome. The best part is how combat takes into account how elements respond / react to eachother or play other roles in combat. Create a water pool by using a rain spell, cast a freeze to make people glide and fall, etc. Poison cloud spell -> use a fireball to make them explode, etc. It's really really good. Not many RPGs do this and this one does it almost without flaws.

    Where is the Baldur's Gate 3 review? I'd love to see your opinion on it. I hate turn-based games and even I like playing both of these because the story is very fun and the world feels so great to explore. A developer in Baldur's Gate 3 has a funny interview where he says that the people working on the game are loving what they're doing so much they are never ending in their creations that he finally had to put a stop to it. He laughed and was like, "I had to tell them no more because we'll never release the game if I allow them to put all of this amazing content in there." They have so much content hidden in the files that people have been combing through, but aren't available in the base game when you throw it on, but they're capable of being played with if you know how to get the files working. It's absolutely insane at how much content they have put into these games.

    I had forgotten about this review and purchased this game...technically yesterday now. I felt like I was only in the game for less than an hour, then realized that the sun had gone down and darn near 6 hours had gone by and I had barely scratched the surface. This really does feel like an old school computer RPG, but it looks much better than they did back in the 80's and 90's for sure. I couldn't agree with this review more. kudos to the developers

    This game is amazing. This is the single best game I have bought all year. I was playing this morning fighting some human bad guys when all of a sudden these oil slimes started spawning and attacking. 5 minutes later the ground is coated in necrofire. So I use bless on the fire and within a few turns the entire area is coated in holy fire. This game is just so insane

    • @joemency2242
      @joemency2242 2 роки тому

      I recently beat that area. What i did was kill the humans first then run away to where the shrieker was (i think thats what they're called) and then say as all the oil and necrofire blobs got instakilled.
      I haven't even thought about using bless on necrofire yet

    Bought this in the sale a week or two ago. Really wasn't feeling it at first. Frustrating, vague, combat felt like a non-option, never been a fan of the old top-down RPG's...then I started to get better gear and get to grips with the mechanics (ie, stop trying to play like it's XCOM) and have kinda fallen in love with it. Glad to hear act 2 is so much bigger than act 1.

    • @jeffvella9765
      @jeffvella9765 6 років тому +3

      Act 1 tries to humble you in knowing how weak you are and Act 2 does it over again but this time it gives more freedom to tackle the challenges ahead.
      The fact that act 2 allows you to change all the attributes as you wish literally changes how you view the game.
      Where before every choice in attributes is going to effect the fights, now every equipment you have is going to effect the choice in attributes and thus it allows you to explore completely different styles of fighting.
      EG: act 1 you had tanks(1 or 2), act 2 you probably change everything to ranged since enemy can teleport even more then act1(as if such a thing was possible). :)

    I'm generally not a fan of RPGs but I accidentally get pulled into one of them from time to time. Last game from that genre was Dragon Age: Inquisition and now this. I completed DOS2 the other day and having sunk 90 hours into it all I can say is it was worth every minute. I thought I hated turn based games before I played it and I can whole heartedly recommend it to anyone who's even remotely interested. Won't be playing it again just because I very rarely replay games but there's plenty of replayability with so many class combinations and spells for those who love these games.

    I spent 170 hrs in first single player through(but I liked reloading & swapping my build) - this game is amazing, GoTY 2017! One thing about the ability to kill/insult characters to prevent progress - the progress isn't broken, you just have to think of a way around the roadblock ;) (at least for the main storyline). There'll be either a backdoor or a set of clues hidden somewhere.

    Bought this game in early access way back in 2015. Never regretted my purchase and I'm happy to see it get all the praise it deserves. I will say that my biggest problem with the game is that in the later chapters, especially with certain puzzles, they get a bit too cryptic for my liking. There are a lot of frustrating parts that really grind my gears but that kind of hardcore approach in of itself is addicting in a way, and it is so goddamn satisfying once you complete it. I also feel like they could have done a better job for multiplay interface like voice chat and better managing systems for public games, especially since when playing with randos there is no chance your're getting past the first chapter. Especially in the character creation lobby where you can't see the other player's build before the game starts. Of course when you're playing with friends it isn't an issue.

      You will be overwhelmed at first, but some RPG veterans are too. The game encourages you to experiment and learn at your own pace, and there's a difficulty below easy that would be ideal for people new to the genre. There's nothing in the game that requires you to be a genius or anything. As long as you're willing to take the time to pay attention to what you're doing you will be fine - just make sure you DO have a lot of free time, because you need it for this game.
