    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Impressed by high school student David's (Tobey Maguire) devotion to a 1950s family TV show, a mysterious television repairman (Don Knotts) provides him with a means to escape into the black-and-white program with his sister, Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon). While David initially takes to the simplistic, corny world of the show, Jennifer sets about jolting the characters with doses of reality that unexpectedly bring a little color into their drab existence.

@@kayley4465 The movie is worth watching from beginning to end. At the time it was marketed as a romcom, but in reality it’s a very deep multi layer drama. And a brilliant allegory for how persons who cannot conform (i.e. minorities and LGBTQ persons) are treated in modern day society. That kind of makes this scene between Toby and Bill Macy’s All the more powerful. It’s basically an appeal to persons complacent in The aforementioned mistreatment.

    • @enochlo9156
      @enochlo9156 Рік тому +4

      @@antmagor
      That is entirely incorrect.
Your allegory suggests that this "colour" represents a small group of rejects ostracized by society for their differences.
The movie, however, says the colours are in everyone all along. This seems to directly contradict what you've said. This is not about a minority. This is about a chokehold placed on all members of society.
This concerns all gender stereotypes, freedom of speech, lifestyles and social hierarchies.
This questions the education of modern minds, the injustice and the hypocrisies.
This movie rejects the cogwheel mentality.

Everytime this wonderful movie is shown on TV, "they" say it's "a nice teenie-comedy"...
      How wrong can somebody be!
There is so much "hidden" information (the burning of the books, no coloureds allowed etc.)
To me one of the best movies ever - although my list is quite long, as I have to admit...
I have to watch it every now and then, and never get bored!

I went to this movie in 1998 with a friend who has a PhD in psychology. He cried because he thought it was the most beautiful movie in the world. I recall people staring at him. He had tears flowing down his checks.

Your friend was right. I was an English teacher in Korea in the early 2000s and I played this movie to my students, as an exercise to describe what happens in each scene and to ask the students to interpret the scene. As a result I watched it over 100 times. It has never gotten old for me; a wonderful movie about personal growth and how it changes the world.

I don’t have a PhD in Psychology and I cried at this movie. So does that mean I’m as qualified as your friend? @bwh4677 Рік тому +4

@@alexshank1414 your statement is poorly-worded. You asked if crying at this movie makes you equally-qualified as the person above. Obviously crying at a particular movie has no association with academic qualifications, and nobody gets a Ph.D. in Psychology so that they can understand the movie Pleasantville; the person in question got it for other reasons.
Higher education can sometimes lead to indoctrination, but indoctrination can be escaped. Clearly, however, you've never escaped from flawed reasoning. I suspect you cried at this movie because you live in a self-made Pleasantville of delusion and self-pity.

The beautiful use of metaphors and such throughout the movie was amazing and the script was brilliant imo. All the actors did such a great job. If this movie came out today conservatives should be screeching about how woke it is. Beautiful film.

      I'm a conservative, and I thinks it's perfect, so you're dead wrong.

The Angel Gabriel was sent to Mary in the form of a man, with glad tidings of a child who was to be born miraculously without a father.
“Then We sent to her Our spirit (angel Gabriel), and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects. She said: ‘Surely I seek refuge from you with the Most Beneficent (God) if you do fear God.’ He said: ‘I am only a messenger of your Lord: to announce to you the gift of a righteous son.’ She said: ‘How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?’ He said, ‘Thus [it will be]’. Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.’” Qur’an 19:17-21
Some claim that his miraculous birth is evidence of Jesus’ divinity. However, Jesus was not the first to come into existence without a father, as Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) before him had neither a father nor mother. God says:
“The likeness of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: ‘Be’, and he was. This is the truth from your Lord, so be not of the disputes.” Qur’an 3:59-60
Surely, if Jesus is worshipped due to having no father, Adam is more deserving of worship since he was created without either parent

Who is God in Islam ?
Muslims believe that God has no partners or associates who share in His divinity or authority and that God is transcendent, unlike His creations, and thus has no physical form. Nor is God believed to exist in (or be represented by) any material object. A number of divine attributes or “names,” which serve to describe God, are found in the Qur’an. Some commonly known attributes include the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving, the Most High, the Unique, and the Everlasting, among others

There is no god, period. If you want to claim otherwise, show empirical evidence to support your position.
