I had my reservations when this movie was recommended to me but I ended up really liking it! The overall message I took was that life isn't supposed to be set in stone, we just have to live it one day at a time. If change is uncomfortable that's normal but not bad.

I think the meaning is a bit darker. It speaks to misogynistic ideas, eg. replacing the color with black and white makeup on his mother....
