Awesome!!!!! I need to make more! I have a neighbor who’s husband saved his for me, and my stash is getting a little too full to keep putting of the next one….or 5 more cups! 🤣
Incredibly beautiful! As it turns I tried reading the colorful labels! I’m going to ask our local cigar store for some labels. Thank you for your creative tutorial. - Leah
YOU ROCK SO MUCH!! After the death of my only daughter 5 years ago, I had to come up with something I could do to make extra money to help my hubby with the bills because when she passed, she left 2 babies behind (no daddy) We adopted the boys and they have changed our life for the better! Your tutorials help me not make costly mistakes and I THANK YOU FOR THAT 😘
@@ThePurpleStitch Hey! I just did another 2 cigar band cups and before starting them, I found Mod Podge sealer spray. I applied the bands as normal with MP and then sprayed the cups like crazy after 1 coat of regular MP brushed on. I think I sprayed 4 or 5 coats of the MP Sealer (yellow and orange label on the can) over them. Worked like a charm and dries much faster than the liquid and none of those sticky spots where it clumps. Thought I'd pass that along to you.
@@loriphillips806 thank you! I bought some of that to use to seal wood grains a while back. It destroyed the ink but I’ll definitely use it for this!! 🥰
@@ThePurpleStitch I wish you could see this one I just finished. It's for a friend of mine and she wanted all 1 brand of cigar labels and wanted it sorta girly. 'It's so boujee!' LOL! I used a metallic gold base, applied the bands, and then in the final layer of epoxy added a touch of glitter to add some sparkle.
It turned out so pretty! Ur baby chicks are adorable & when u said torch it,u meant torch it! 😂😂😂😂 One helluva torch gun u have. 😂😂😂😂😂 I’m just picking at you. I love your videos
😆 yep! Torch is for REAL! 😆 I have a heat gun that I used before discovering the torch. I feel like it definitely gets the bubbles out with less effort. I’m paranoid that I’m going to catch my shed on fire!
I'm a cigar smoker and found this video while looking for ideas of things to do with my band collection. This tumbler looks incredible and its one of the best craft ideas that Ive seen for what to do with bands. I know nothing about crafting. It looks like the equipment you have the tumbler rotating on would be essential for this project. Can you post any links or explain what you are using to turn the tumbler? That tumbler looks awesome!
Thank you!!! It’s on a cup turner or cuptisserie. You can find some inexpensive ones if you don’t plan on needing it a lot. There’s also the hang method and hand turning. It all depends on the time you have to put into it. If you intend on making more than one, I’d definitely invest $30 for a cheapie off amazon. If it becomes a full blown business, then think about better turners. Good luck!!!
I also did a tumbler with cigar wrappers.I painted it brown with ink alcohol to give it the cigar look. I then put a really thin tacky layer of epoxy, then I laid the labels on the tumbler then I allowed it to cure for about 4 hours I then applied a coat of epoxy.
Thank you! Almost always KSresin. I’ve been using liquidy split a while, but have been leaning towards the regular since it responds well to alcohol to pop micro bubbles.
Julie of Pouring Your Heart Out has experimented on making molds. Maybe you can get some tips and the products she used. Good luck. 👍🏻 I enjoy your tutorials too. 😊
Hi! Ive been looking to do this for a while! I actually have dozens and dozens of my labels saved for it, many are the same as yours. Do you have an etsy or a shop that you do this as a business?
You shouldn’t need to wipe it down after painting unless you’ve handled it a lot with bare hands. The oils on our hands can mess with the way epoxy lays, but it shouldn’t affect your modpodging.
Purple Stitch I am going to make this for my husband. I am new at this so I have a couple of questions 1. What are the products that you used ? What is the purpose of the torch and is it necessary?
There are other ways to pop air bubbles, that what I use the torch for. Lots of mod podge, some clear spray paint, and epoxy are the main “ingredients”.
It’s a turner I built a few years ago. You can find them on amazon/Etsy/eBay for all price ranges. Just search cuptisserie or cup turner and you should get lots of options!
Lots of mod podge before epoxy. If there’s not a good deal between the paper and epoxy (this applies to fabric as well), you’ll get spots that look wet.
My nephew is in a cigar club and he gave me hundreds of bands....I tried this technique and they came out amazing I made about 30 of them so far!!

Nice work! Love the tumbler!
Beautiful artwork..I'd buy one in a heartbeat..

I’m so sorry for your loss!!! 😩 I’m glad my mistakes can help you in that way!
Thanks for this idea this will make a perfect gift for my dad
I love Labyrinth! It's one of my all time favorite movies! Love the cigar tumbler also!
I love that movie so hard! I found labyrinth fabric and made a tumbler at Christmas time! 😍
Beautiful work, thanks for your video.
That looks AMAZING! What a great idea!
I love this, I wish I could get a hold of some beautiful cigar bands like these!
It turned out great. Cigar band cups are some of my biggest sellers since my son works at a cigar shop.
Thank you for sharing what you made! I took your advice on leaving the rim. 🥰

You did a phenomenal job! What did you use to hold the tumbler so I can have both hands free? I would greatly appreciate your guidance

@@ThePurpleStitch Wow! I would like to see that.
Making my first for my dad. How long does the resin need to cure while spinning before applying a 2nd coat?
Beautiful cup
Thanks Joel!
@@ThePurpleStitch you are welcome. And you make me want to do more on here. I stopped because I wasn't growing like others on here
It just takes time! Keep uploading your work. I just lucked out I think.
@@ThePurpleStitch I am not as good as others
It takes practice! I can see a difference in my early videos compared to now. I’m figuring out the editing and what I need to show/mention.
That is beautiful
what type of torch do I need to use for this? What type of tumblers do you recommend?
It looks amazing! What specific mod podge did you use? There is a few different kinds.
That’s one cool looking mug. What kind of resin did you use.
Thank you! Almost always KSresin. I’ve been using liquidy split a while, but have been leaning towards the regular since it responds well to alcohol to pop micro bubbles.
Love this I am making this.
Awesome 👌
Julie of Pouring Your Heart Out has experimented on making molds. Maybe you can get some tips and the products she used. Good luck. 👍🏻 I enjoy your tutorials too. 😊
Thanks for the tip! I’m pretty sure these I made are trash. I’ll know after the epoxy is cured enough to demold.
Whooo hooo, got over 100 very cool cigar bands today. Guess what I'm making tomorrow. 😊
Yay!!!!!
Did you make that turner yourself? Where can I buy that turner?
Yes, I made this one when I first started. It’s so clunky and probably seems the best days and retiring soon. 😆
Love this!
Did you do anything to the cup before glueing on pieces?
Just spray painted.
Hi! Ive been looking to do this for a while! I actually have dozens and dozens of my labels saved for it, many are the same as yours. Do you have an etsy or a shop that you do this as a business?
I just use my Facebook page and word of mouth. If you’d like to use your own bands, I’d be happy to do that for ya.
Wow! That’s so cool! Where’d you get all those bands? Someone must be a cigar smoker in your family Lol!😍
I got lucky and the cigar shop my hubby frequents gave me that bag full!
She said the store where her husband shops gave them to her,
Where did you find that device to keep it rotating at a nice slow pace?
You can search cup turner or cuptisserie on amazon/Etsy/eBay. I built this one, but have lots of others from amazon.
Is there any prep you have to do to the tumbler before adding the bands? Wipe down with 91% alcohol?
You shouldn’t need to wipe it down after painting unless you’ve handled it a lot with bare hands. The oils on our hands can mess with the way epoxy lays, but it shouldn’t affect your modpodging.
Purple Stitch I am going to make this for my husband. I am new at this so I have a couple of questions 1. What are the products that you used ? What is the purpose of the torch and is it necessary?

@@ThePurpleStitch what is the purpose for the spray paint? And thanks for answering all of my questions
Kisha Scott an added barrier to prevent the epoxy from leaking through and making the paper look wet.
What do you have spending the cup?
It’s a turner I built a few years ago. You can find them on amazon/Etsy/eBay for all price ranges. Just search cuptisserie or cup turner and you should get lots of options!
Does anyone sell these? I'd be interested as I'm not that crafty
What did you use as an adhesive?
Mod podge. The. Sealed a few extra times before sealing again with clear spray paint.
What was the total completion time from start to finish?
Hmm, I couldn’t tell ya. I didn’t really time it. At least an hour just doing the base layer of bands.
Do you have to layer with mod podge first then epoxy
Lots of mod podge before epoxy. If there’s not a good deal between the paper and epoxy (this applies to fabric as well), you’ll get spots that look wet.
The Purple Stitch Ok thank you it’s just when I use lots of mod lodge I get a lot of brush streaks.
I struggle with that as well. I use a brush with fine bristles. I feel like it’s not as noticeable.
I have checked many woodworking plan sites. I think the instructions from Woodprix are the best.
