Thanks! I appreciate that! Always a pleasure getting new content out your way - excited to see what the coming Fall mushroom season brings our way! Happy Trails!
Nice! Those white chanterelles are often early risers ... so nice to be able to pin them down at the start of the season. Their firmness makes for quite the treat, especially when you can find them relatively clean 👍
@@MushroomTrail So should I expect the Golden chanties to follow in the same areas? Last year I dried the whites found and still have a little left over. The Pine mushrooms got used up pretty fast in comparison. There is an area with a lot of Russulas and was thinking about inoculating the area with lobster mushrooms that I can find. Don't know if it will work but will attempt it as an experiment.
Yes! I'm finding Whites & Goldens side by side ... and here west of the cascades they seem to like the same habitat. Both associate with Doug Fir & Hemlock (among others too, but those are the ones I focus on in my area). And I love that Lobster experiment! Keep me posted - I'd be curious to hear if you end up having success with that. Very cool! PS - even though I see dried chanterelles in the market these days, they don't dry and rehydrate as well as other mushrooms. Consider cooking them down in their juices and then freezing them for comparison.
Hey there Brother, Great video again. Your so right , it's been an amazing time and being out more than here and in this space. Still hunting the Kings and just found a brand new area way up high still. Working on the video. It 's been epic your so right. White Chanterelles are excellent. So happy you found them. Heading out tomorrow check a few low level areas. Thanks for always sharing great videos of all your mushroom hunts. Talk soon 👊🍄
Thanks! Always appreciate you tuning in! And, yeah, so many mushrooms hitting right now in PNW that it's hard to make up my mind of what to chase any given day. Love this time of year!
Exactly! Tasty little guys for sure - seeing more and more of the Fall season full flower Goldens past several days ... but nice to get some of the stubby summer variety while they're out there.
Can't wait! I have to admit that as soon as I posted this video I dashed back out into the forest to forage another quick pound of Golden Chanterelles ... they're really coming alive out there! And no doubt that it will get even better in the days ahead! Thanks for tuning in!
Wow! Gonna need the coordinates to those patches! 😅. Now you've gotten me really excited. Went out last week and found a few, hopefully this weekend will be much better🤞 Thanks for the awesome video as always, can't wait for the next one.
😂 My pleasure! Good luck out there this weekend - things are really ramping up, so I have a sneaking suspicion that you're going to come away with a full basket!
Skate Creek road off Hwy7 you can pretty much park anywhere and find Chantrelles. I got 23lbs last week on 2 trips. Beautiful shrooms this year. Going for early Pines this weekend and hopefully I find the motherload!!!
Indeed! I'm amazed at just how prime it is right now ... these past few days I've been pulling out huge Golden Chanterelle flowers too (which I wouldn't typically expect this early). Good luck out there!
Your chantarelles are so chunky, if Cantharellus cibarius wasn't so common in Sweden I'd be quite jealous because they look so nice. Our chantarelles are a lot thinner and it looks like when large your chantarelles get a texture similar to hedgehog mushrooms when large and wet, our are crisp and snap when small and get slightly stringy when large and older.
We're definitely blessed with Chanterelles out here in the PNW - and the White Chanterelles can be a real treat because they're so firm and chunky. Our Pacific Golden Chanterelle (C. formosus) is pretty similar to C. cibarius later in the Fall (in fact, they used to be considered the same species) ... but we get a summer version that definitely has a more stocky, robust stature. Appreciate you tuning in - and hope you have a fantastic mushroom season out in Sweden! 🍄
I love Phaeolus schweinitzii, not only because I love saying it, but when you find a fresh specimen early morning in the forest, when the sunlight hits it just right from the side/underneath, it just glistens like opals to me.
I'll have to try that out! I was just admiring an incredible little Phaeolus schweinitzii that had just emerged yesterday - they really are a thing of beauty! So much to be amazed by out there in the forest!
@@MushroomTrail I’m in the city in Edinburgh (Scotland) so it’s pretty hard to find a decent patch around here! I need to go north for anything decent 😅
Nice! One of my very best buddies (who's along with me in several past videos) just moved out to Edinburgh for 6 months! I have fond memories of wandering around Northern Scotland many years ago!
Thanks! Appreciate you tuning in! And glad to hear the chanterelles are up and going in NE Ontario - hope you have a great Late Summer / Fall season ! Just curious - what's your preferred chanterelle species out that way?
Thanks - I really appreciate that! Nothing planned at the moment, but I'll certainly consider something like that at a future date! Thanks for tuning in!
Hi... from Philippines, but working here in Saudi Arabia I'm watching always your channel... it amazing your picking a masroom... it's grate the forrest in your place.. which country you are?
Thank you! Really appreciate you tuning in! I am located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States (Western Washington, to be exact). I imagine you encounter lots of great mushrooms out in your home country of the Philippines!
Wowww very nice.... I have a relative their in California... and I love to eat mushroom also when I was in a province... I’m looking a mushroom in a banana tree area
I came across two small patches this past week. One bigger patch was higher elevation and definitely the more orange color sunmer variety eith some quite good sized ones. Nothing else other than Russulas around though. What elevation are you finding these popping up?
@@MushroomTrail Amazing to see and thank you for sharing. I really need to find some of the closer forests and lower elevations. I found my chants around 3000
My pleasure! Nothing wrong with getting out into the hills too - that's always a treat ... and there's always so much going on out there. But it is, indeed, nice to have some good low elevation spots to access too! Best of luck out there! Appreciate you tuning in!
That's an excellent question! Chanterelles are a little different from other common forest mushrooms in simple fact that they can last a really long time out there in the forest... so sometimes it takes many weeks for them to fully mature (which, in Fall, will often be evident by curled ridges on the cap and pronounced ridges/veins underneath). The earlier summer chanterelles are often a little trickier to determine maturity with, because they're often short and stubby (which I believe is typically a result of drier conditions). That said, early in the season people will often harvest some smaller ones to hold them over until Fall is in full swing. In general, if you see one that is fully flowered out (wavy margin, pronounced ridges), you know it's good to go. I usually leave the small ones behind or cover them with leaves/moss to give them an opportunity to grow out.
@@MushroomTrail Thank you so much for such an informative answer! Until recently I thought they matured rapidly like other mushrooms, but this has saved me from making the mistake of picking the premature specimens.
My pleasure! And remember, it can be a little tricky with those stubby summer fruitings ... so if you're noticing that they're not flowering out or getting bigger over the course of the next week or two, might want to go ahead and harvest. Nice that they're so resistant to bugs/larvae ... they tend to hold up really well!
@@MushroomTrail Me and a friend went out and got a few pounds. They are out for sure. Lots of smalls though. Harvested a wine cap patch i made a few months ago they just sprouted!
Whoa! That's awesome that you've got a patch of Garden Giants going - curious to know what size yours got to be in that first year? I've been fascinated by those ever since hearing Stamets discuss those. Seems like an awesome addition to the garden!
These are definitely considered "Fall Mushrooms" out here in the PNW. As referenced in the video, we've been blessed with a very early (and bountiful) start to the mushroom season out here this year. Happy Trails!
I know it! I love to check out different regional channels, because even though there's always a lot of overlap, sometimes there are specific details that are region-specific. Hopefully more channels will sprout up in the months ahead!
I do sometimes cut them at the base - especially if I spot primordia that are likely to grow or if it's a twin that's connected to a youngster. But other times, I prefer to pluck, cut, and then replant... nice to be able to spread the range if possible.
Interestingly, harvesting Chanterelle fruiting bodies is shown to actually stimulate future growth ... and often contributes to dispersion of spores. Awesome! Welcome aboard! Appreciate you tuning in -- and can't wait to get the next video out your way!
This might be the only video about chanterelles that anybody ever needs to watch. Amazing content! Very informative and captivating.
Thanks! I appreciate that! Hope the mushroom season treats you well and that plenty of Chanterelles find their way into your pan!
Jealous of those beautiful white chanterelles!😊
This was the most fruitful year for them that I've experienced ... they were really out in force! Such an incredibly delicious find!
Noting the shrooms grow in close proximity helped me today. Thanks for the tip.
Fantastic! Glad that was helpful - and best of luck out there! Hope many a chanterelle are finding their way into your basket!
