    I remembered if you swap random FFVII disks with the lid sensor pushed in you can play the game the same. The cut scenes/FMV will play from the other disks, for example if you have disk 3 in while playing the loaded disk 2 it will play the que for the movie from disk 3. I had a scratched disk. Did this to play through the game.

      Sounds like a great reason to have a backup!

      Thanks, I got stuck on a part of FFVII disk 2 because I was stuck on a white screen. Thought I was going to have buy a new disk or buy a freepsxboot memory card.

    This is great to know man! If this is the case, The Legend of Dragoon should work fine as well. The thing about that game I believe I remember is it would actually juggle you like from disk 2 to disk 3 and then needing to go back to a previous region, make you insert disk 2 again back and forth... Thanks man. Going to be trying it.

      Yep, certain areas are on all discs, but if the devs didn't think that you would really go back to a place a lot it would only be on maybe one or two of them instead forcing you to swap the disc

    Beautiful! seems the exploit unlock the CD drive and keep it like that until you reboot or power off, would be more beautiful if some exploit like PS2 that flash the drive permanent, would be fantastic to see another console like the mighty Dreamcast.

    Does 4.87 HFW (HEN) work on ps3 super slim? I'm worrying about bricking the ps3. Edit: did it yesterday :D but will wait next week for 4.88 :/

    I'm inclined to ask about Colony Wars on the ps1, since that was a two disc game, and if I recall correctly, it doesn't have the save prompt before requiring the disc swap.

      Haven't tried it myself, although the results seem positive.

      It should work. As far as I am aware the NoCash unlock stays in place until the console is restarted, it even survives opening the disc tray.

    I’m curious how it does for Monster Rancher. That game you create monsters by swapping discs to something that isn’t the game but then you put back the game. You can make monsters from audio CDs so I’m really curious how the system handles things in this case.

    • @KopperNeoman
      @KopperNeoman 2 роки тому +2

      Since these exploits put the drive in a mode that disables all checks, that will also work. Audio CDs don't even HAVE region checking.

    Is there a memory card that can hold a microSD card so games can boot directly from the card? Similar to the GameCube hack? Love the videos btw, always impressed!

      Not for the PS1, and I doubt there ever will be due to how slow those ports would be on the PS1.

    Is there a way to install FreePSXBoot without a PS2?
    You can flash Gamesharks from a PS1 so I don't think it's impossible.

    • @MrMario2011
      @MrMario2011  3 роки тому

      Sure, several ways to do it, but PS2 is probably most accessible for most viewers.

      right now I think the other methods are:
      1) a ps3 memory card adapter (expensive)
      2) DexDrive for Ps1 (what I did it cost like $15 plus shipping and I had to get a serial to usb cord too, look on youtube how to use it)
      3) Do the swap trick to boot into unirom using a boot disc and then flash a memory card with your ps1 (I could never get the swap trick to work)
      Those seem to be the least technical methods. There's more on FreePsxBoot's github though.

    I hope one day they figure out how to softmod Japanese ps one with memory card.🃏

    • @MrMario2011
      @MrMario2011  3 роки тому +2

      As I understand it: The hidden unlock command these use for booting discs is not present in the Japanese BIOS, which is why this won't work the same way on Japanese consoles.

    It should have been obvious for anyone that took the time to read about the hack would understand it unlocks the drive therefor the drive remains unlocked until the next power cycle meaning swapping discs will be possible as drive is currently unlocked

    It makes sense as the Drive Unlock gets applied during TonyHax / FreePSXBoot and presumably the Drive doesn't get "Reset" when you change discs?

      More thinking running the exploit patches the console's checks for the remainder of time the console is on.

      @@MrMario2011 So you couldn't, say, boot a legit disc one of Metal Gear Solid then when it asks for disc 2 give it a burnt copy without tricking the system into booting a burnt copy in the first place? Because, at least from where I'm sitting, it looks more like the system just stopped requesting any anti-piracy past the initial boot.

    Speaking of save games, can I use saves of PAL and NTSC games on the same memory card? I know that the GameCube memory cards have issues with that. Although that's only because of the Japanese characters, I believe.
