Chael, I am a tennis player. Professional tennis does the exact same thing with Grand Slam events. All tennis tournaments are best of 3 sets. The four Grand Slam events are best of 5 sets.

It actually doesn’t change anything this fight will never see the 4th or 5th round. Either McGregor inside 2 or Chandler inside 3.
Sure Corey, Weidman and Anderson all had similar leg breaks and returned to a 3 round fight. However, NONE of them were trying to return to a main event. You know Conor won’t return to anything less. I understand the fact that you don’t agree with non-title main events being 5 rds but this is where we’re at these’d days. If the 2 relatively unknown guys have do push out 5 rounds this Saturday to be the main event, surely you’d agree the Conor and Chandler should have to do the same, or get bumped down the card. Honestly I’d be fine with Conor/Chandler as a 3 round Co-main or even as the featured bout, 3rd from the top. Just like Max n Justin did at 300. That seemed to work out well for them. Not sure anyone seen the co-main because of it, but that fight was special.

5 rounds in MMA seems similar to a Championship finals (and semi-finals) in soccer, in soccer the final can not end in a draw, if the score is level in the final after the full 90 minutes (x2 45 minute halves), then they will then play an additional 30 minutes (x2 15 minute halves) to decide the winner, they will even go one step further and then say penalty kicks and the team to get the best out of 5 wins.
Main events are like this if neither fighter has won in the initial 3 rounds you then get an additional to decide the winner, if there is still no finish come the end of the round 5, then the judges will be forced to choose a winner.

I think the 5 round fight is to make it more decisive to give more time for a finish also to give the fans a longer fight to help justify the money spent for watching.
Boxing non championship fights are 10 rounds. Championship fights are 12 rounds.
MLB and NBA playoffs start with a best of 5 series and advance to best of 7 the further you advance, if I remember correctly.
NFL doesn't really do it, but they do have a wildcard round that 1st place teams don't have to participate in. So I think in most major sports additional time or games do exist.

Nate kept showing us that he was onto bigger and better things from the get go! He got the BMF belt made, he made a non title fight (or main event) a 5 rounder for the first time. Nate was always on the cusp and win lose or draw, he made numbers and put butts in the seats. We just seen it from Max too that even if you are out of that weight class, you could still get #1 contender if you won by devastating fashion and boy did he ever deliver on that. I too don't think Conor should want it 5 rounds after being off for so long.. but if they went over certain stipulations like a #1 contender spot if you win even out of weight class, I think that's the only idea that makes sense.
I truly like Chandler as a man and fighter, but I am a big Conor fan of his early days and how funny he was on the mic. Hopefully they do some good press conferences so then we all win. CM vs MC

I'm seriously glad you're bringing up the five round debate! I've wondered the same thing and never heard anyone mention it. I wonder what the stats show about who's winning at the end of the third, vs. who wins at the end of the fifth. Are those stats available? Would we have to see the judges score cards to know?

People forget about how talented Connor is, not just anyone can step in there with Connor. People see the lavish lifestyle and forget that Connor’s true love and passion is fighting and nothing will change that. Connor is a dangerous fight for anyone. If Chandler underestimates him this will be another Cowboy Cerrone destruction. if Chandler can’t keep him down this will be the exact same fight as Connor Vs Chad Mendes.
Somehow losing to Dustin Poirier, one of the best to ever do it, has diminished some people's opinion of him. The dude is a two division World champion with a dangerous set of skills. He is the highest paid guy and most sought after guy for a reason. I am not even like a huge Conor fan, but anybody who is acting like he is trash is just being ridiculous.

Connor literally handpicked Chandler because it's the easiest fight against anyone with name recognition he could get. The definition of Cherry Picking. Chandler hasn't done well in the UFC. He beat Tony, but Tony hasn't won a fight in forever. Justin, Dustin, and Oliviera beat him up.

Chael is great at a lot of things but when it comes to ball washing for Mcgregor he is top of the list.
Knowing both of their styles, I doubt the addition of 2 rounds would make a difference when this fight is unlikely to last longer than 15 mins.

I agree, UFC does their star money maker fighters dirty by throwing them straight back in, take Floyd Mayweather for example, comes back after jail to warm up fights, Ali, Tyson, Foreman, canelo, Fury.
They all have warm up fights to get rid of ring rust.

I swear, you are the only one I've heard complain about 5 rounders....it's obviously a hit with the people or the brass wouldn't have done it and/or would change it back.....even most fighters like it because there is less chances of getting shafted by the incompetent judges, and more time to implement their plan.

To big of a deal is made between 3 to five rounds. It's a fight it shouldn't last five anyways but imo if a fighter is top ten or better they should have to fight five just to get used to it

NBA\MLB playoffs are different then regular season. Playoffs are best of 5 or best of 7. NFL playoffs have endless overtime.

Uncle J here, I don’t get why a soccer field is so huge and 0 - 0 games are so common.
A game that literally allows a scoreless game, consistently, and the field disproportionately relative to everything else contributes to the low scoring.
Funny thing is soccer fans around the world and players don’t have a problem with it, it’s just me so I don’t watch it.

Five rounds is one of the stupidest things they did. No one is designed to fight for 25 minutes hard. It increases tons of head injuries.
