We always plant our corn in a 12 inch hill hole. As the corn grows we add dirt around the plants so the roots are deep. By planting in hills 2 feet apart the wind doesn't knock our corn down when the storms come. ❤
You are certainly making the most of that wonderful garden space, I'm smiling that the un-forcast rain arrived when you finished planting. I don't know how you do it all.....but YOU GOT THIS GIRL!

If rows are running north south (not East West) can plant in both sides of corn row. Otherwise corn will shade one row too much. Many blessings everyone.
My daughter in law is loosing her garden to deer . It is sad after all the work one does to have a garden started.. Better be careful! The deer ate her green beans too!
You probably already know this but corn does better when planting in blocks instead of a single row like you were saying. You will get better pollination when planted in blocks. Just my opinion.
I came to ask the same question....the property is being transformed in a very beneficial way...would be interesting to see if it inspires others in the neighborhood in the years to come.

Last year I never bothered to pull it out of the strawberry bed and its growing again this year. If you plant garlic beside celery it will sweeten the celery ;)
You guys have such a special family bond. I adore coming along on your journey. Nice and steady Bri!! You are one amazing momma!! I love your garden!!!
8:00 Hi Bri and all the kids. I wanted to correct a very common mistake. A corn plant does not need bees or other insects for pollination. The corn needs a wind that spreads the pollen on the cobs. That is why the seeds are planted densely so that each plant will fertilize itself or the others. If there is no wind, you can pollinate manually by collecting the ripe pollen from the top of the plant and scattering it on the hairs of the cobs.
I would plant a blueberry hedge around your house. You could landscape it with camellias at the back and blueberries in the front. They all like the same acid soil so grouping them together makes feeding easier.
My kids were almost nine years apart. One day the youngest was eating spinach off my plate. She was barely two and loved spinach. UNTIL one day the oldest said "EWWWW She's eating spinach!" For years that child never ate spinach again. Made me kinda mad. LOL But, she wised up. It's so funny to see one love broccoli and the other not. It reminds of that time with the spinach. Your kids in the garden just warm my heart.
