My stepdad is the best steeler in the world. He's dying of cancer and the world will be less brighter when he goes. Your right, its not country without a steel guitar...
allways remember this ,it all happen on a saturdaynight ( 20 september 75 ) i was very depressed and only sitting on a chair , suddenly they played this song , a skinny girl with long hair asked me for a dance and on the tunes of this song something happened , that girl stole my heart and now , 37 years later , were still together as man and woman .
I love these old videos, the old greats like Tammy seemed more like real people just doing what they do best instead of the perfectly polished entertainment packages we see today. She doesn't need to have a perfectly choreographed dance routine , I just want to hear her beautiful voice!
MY MOMS GONE SINCE I WAS JUST 16 YET WE USED TO LISTEN TO HER ALL THE TIME SHE AND LORETTA LYNN PATSY CLINE ARE SOME OF THE GREATEST SINGERS OF ALL TIME
wow this looks like it was directed by david lynch. amazing performance as always from Tammye. Her poise, her voice, her dignity and her unrivaled command of melody make her a genius of american music. Will always love you Tammye.
It's not really about me, APPRECIATION for the greatest! I am an Englishman, I was 25 years old and working on a construction job in North London when I fist heard this great song....until then I had no patience for country music...Tammy brought it to me and I moved to the USA....what a darling! It became a smash hit in England...
it's a steel guitar the main instrument in country music, its it sometimes called the crying steel guitar and works so well with a sad country song, and without a steel guitar its not country music
Have no idea what show it was -but gotta say Tammy never looked ,or sounded better in this old video that I just "came across" !! A great Lady of country music -and I remember this song from my folks playing it -kinda funny -I sing in a band and "do" 2 Patsy Cline songs --I think I'm gonna add this too !!!
I've still got 26 of her LPs, and seen her twice when she toured England, seen her at the Colston Hall in Bristol, and the Corn Exchange in Cambridge. One of the best female singers ever, beautiful clear voice and just brilliant. Joan Baez would be another of the best ever female singers, and of course Ella Fitzgerald, so technically perfect.
She was such a great singer had an amazing voice and range. Miss her but so glad to have her music. Love this song. grew up on her music and I loved the Divorce use to sing that with her when I was little she has such high range it would almost pull my vocals out!!! but I so loved to hear her and of course her and George singing together
Thanks Tammy - just fantastic words and song - and one that be belted out by everyone in the bathroom - though never as good as you. You gave us all something special and I praise the lord I am still able to listen to you. Thank you, thanks for the post and goodwill to all who pass this way
I remember when this song first hit the airwaves, and it is still as good today as it was then. Tammy, you were a one-off and there will never be another like you. Incidentally, I love the band in this video and was especially impressed with the guy playing the Tele. Is it a Fender Squier Vibe from the 50s by chance? Whatever, it is it sure sounded terrific.
Old memories! I'll have a crush on her until the moment I die. When I was just a kid, she sang this song. She defined what a Woman was to every young boy who heard that song. I'll always love you, Tammy, and I'll always believe there are Women like you out there.
I have to laugh in my heart when I hear this, My precious mother in law(God rest her soul), short, round little lady, put on a long blond wig to go to some church party as "Whamie Tynette" as she called it. ha ha ha
Remember dancing to this song recorded by Candy Stanton at The Parish Centre, North Sydney with a boy who will remember who he is if he reads this. Sharon MacDougall
Exactly, one of the finest country songs ever written, and even finer sung. In the words of David Allen Coe" If that ain't country, I'll kiss your ass".
I didn't like her early songs, but time taught me to listen more closely. I think she was the best of all, had amazing phrasing, she should have been the greatest
I remember when Tammy was having surgery at Red Bay Hospital, on June 25 1981....I was in labor with my daughter Amanda, Had to wait on Tammy to get out of surgery so i could go in ... lol....
Yes, it is a pedal steel guitar. The gentleman plaing is Sonny Curtis. Played for George Jones as part of the Jones boys for many years. He backed George as a solo act, then George and Tammy togther. When George and Tammy split up, he and the rest of the band went with Tammy.
I remember being at a Faron Young concert as a young boy and I saw the steel guitar player and I really really wanted to be one because he looked cool pick the string as he slid up an down the neck of the guitar.

In my opinion, the best and finest example of the female country voice.
I never really realized how beautiful she was.
Tammy Wynette and the Band all looked picture perfect, healthy and glowed in this beautiful video clip. If only time stood still.
I love these old videos, the old greats like Tammy seemed more like real people just doing what they do best instead of the perfectly polished entertainment packages we see today. She doesn't need to have a perfectly choreographed dance routine , I just want to hear her beautiful voice!
Damn i missed those days. what they call country music now just doesnt have the same feeling that is use to. I wish i could go back to those days.
my dad named me Tammy after this wonderful women. i feel blessed of this lol
This music has so much soul....unlike todays so called country music. God bless Tammy Wynette.
This is real music. Just a lady and a microphone. No voice enhancers or high tech gadgets to make it sound better like you hear now a days.
Nobody in the world can sing this song like her.. She was an American icon, a national treasure, she will be greatly missed.
If that was a live performance I am deeply impressed. What a voice!!!🎩Chapeau!
My god, what a voice and what a song. Damn near brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

A nice live recording with no lip syncing.
And an intro by The Possum!
Love all MS Tammy's songs,
I'm not sure if I really want to cry or not . By listening to this over and over again.

her voice is clear and not pitchy, she is beautiful and as far as I am concerned she can't be beat by any other female singer.
