You can’t compare Whitney and Dolly. They’re both powerhouse singers. I’ve been a fan of them both since I was a child and clearly for good reason. For me, Dolly’s version is so tender and sweet. It reminds me of the tenderness of love. Whitney’s version reminds me of the how dynamic and explosive love can be. Truly grateful for both versions.

Both versions are exceptionally beautiful. Dollys version is like someone telling you that they love you. Whitney’s version feels like you are telling someone you love them. To Be Loved vs To Love. Both incredible feelings.
Yes, heartfelt and personal unlike the shout it from the mountaintops Whitney version. Dolly's version sounds more honest, like she really means it for life, not just the moment.
@@valvenatorshe wrote it for Porter Wagoner. A singer that she worked with on his tv show. He gave dolly her big break….When she was leaving the show she knew he’d be mad about it so she wrote this song to smooth over hurt feelings..

Her thanking the crowd while they were clapping. So sweet. I had a greater liking to Ms.Dolly after how she responded in the Barbara Walters interview. Truly a classy woman.
At 42 yo, living the worst break up of my life, and crying over this song. The lyrics say exactly what I wish for my ex-lover. Dolly's rendition is splendid. 🥺

For a long time the media made me believing Whitney version was the best, but watching and listening to this original I can see how Dolly Parton poured her whole being into this song that striped down acoustics and her voice makes you listen to the lyrics and Country Twang just the cherry on top
As a man in my mid 40s, this song resonates with me deeply, and not just the song, but the lyrics. I have had a few women I have loved in my life, and when you really get down to it, you wish them the absolute best in life.
@ thanks! Sorry to hear about your situation but it gets better. If you truly cared for them or loved them you’ll still think about them from time to time and that’s totally okay.
@@penknight8532 i would have to disagree with you on that. you can hear dolly's emotions while she sings it, her sadness is there. When i listen to whitney's version it sounds good yes but that feeling isnt the same as i get when i listen to dolly's
Both Whitney and Dolly are such unique versions. Dolly’s is nostalgic and heartbreaking, while Whitney is passionate and full emotion. Both are so deep and such masterpieces ❤ both are different angles
"I Will Always Love You" is a song written and originally recorded in 1973 by American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton. Written as a farewell to her business partner and mentor Porter Wagoner, expressing Parton's decision to pursue a solo career. As per Wikipeida. This song is sung as it was intended by Dolly. When Life's stresses are upon us what comes out of us shows who we are. This is who Dolly Parton is. Blessings
I have never heard Dolly Parton sing until tonight. Im 68 and have missed out on a entire genre of music. I lived in east TN for 6 years and now have a great admiration for Dolly.
She could have done this song without any background music. Her voice is so sweet and loving. The best version ever, no mechanics, nor editing, nor computer, just perfect.............. We love you Dolly.
I do think this song has all the possibilities because is a masterpiece of love. It’s beautifully passionate with Dolly, sensacional with Whitney. This song will live forever.
There's no better version. This one reflects the past in a laid back way. The other is a powerhouse and you don't always have the energy to process all that. The key is that we have both versions and that is enriching for us all.
@@hansemannluchter643 Yes, absolutely. But many of us came to know this song and produced royalties for Dolly Parton because The Bodyguard was a big movie. I don't know if it is because of the fact that I love old songs, but this version Sound very deep and the combinations of melodies bring us back to 60s - 90s. Wow
A versão da Whitney vejo como mais romântica, até pq se vendeu assim (por conta do filme), Já a da Dolly vai além. É como se tocasse na alma. Além de ser uma versão mais "acústica" que para mim é sensacional.
That narration part is like a stab in my chest, the way it's just narrated... Been playing in bands the Whitney version for decades, but it's just now that the lyrics hit me.. Just broke up with my ex who refuses to let me go and wants me back... I feel so much pity and my heart feels so heavy for her helplessness but I pray and cry to God to please bless her and wish she finds the one for her 😥
I love both versions for what they are Dolly's emotion telling a personal story and Whitney's over the top vocal performance that only she could do either way they both made a bunch of money and we got two great versions that are unique to both artist

Whitney sings this like a production number almost a opera , Dolly sings it like she lived it and that’s a massive difference

❤
She did live it. This was an I love you and goodbye letter to a collaborator who she was leaving to go solo near the start of her career.
