I first learned this technique from one of your videos several years ago and I’ve been doing it for the past three or four years and it works great! Last year from a single sweet potato from the grocery store I had over 50 slips! I was having to give them away, because there were so many extras.
Right as you only need 1 to really take off. Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More.
My mat doesnt have thermostat so its probably mid 80's Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More.
This was the basic mix I make. Any seed starting mix is fine. Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More.
It helps with moisture and heat if a mat is used. But you have to be really careful as you create and environment ripe for molds and fungi. I dont cover my seed starts. Do you have a video on the next step for the sweet potatoes? I started 4 different organic sweet potatoes I got from Whole Food a the beginning of Feb. All have sprouted. One was way earlier than the others. One just started and the other two is in between. I think for the earliest one, it is probably ready.
I dont but the slips need to be cut off at like 4-6 inches and put in water for a couple weeks. They will root out. Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More.
That works. They dont need much to get started light wise. Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More.
I did this last year for the first time and it def works. I bought 3 potatoes from an organic grocery store for under $5. Ended up with about 20 slips, more than enough for me - and had a very successful harvest. When you consider the cost of slips purcashed through seed sites ($23-$35 depending + shipping) it is well worth the effort.
I learned how to grow slips from your videos, first time ever. I have to say, my first attempt was with an organic sweet potato and it never grew a slip. So, I grabbed one, non organic, left over from the grocery store and it grew slips. Planted a couple and got a bunch of sweet potatoes. Thank you for your videos, they are very helpful+
Glad to help and good luck this year Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More.
