Would you like to know what it was like when I was growing up? What a lovely place it was? I'm 82 now, but I would love to be able to go back in time there. My parents built a store out on 82 right after WWll, known as Huggins' Corner. It was probably the first convienance store in that area. We had groceries, fresh meat, would cut you any amount you wanted. Sewing supplies. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and Mama delicious BBQ. Cold drinks, beer, ice cream cones, milk shakes. All kinds of goodies. Everyone was welcome and treated with respect.
I actually attended Leflore High School and Mississippi Valley State University! Back in 1986…I was born and mostly raised in Indiana but my dad moved to Mississippi when I was in the 10th grade, anyway Itta Bena was booming back then. I went back to the Mississippi Delta in November 2022 and cried. They regressed…it’s horrible there now. I was ready to go home soon as I entered what use to be named Hobson st.
Hey Shanna, thank you for sharing your comment with me and the world. I felt every word. I plan to go back to the area, this summer. In my opinion, these are the towns that we should turn into a black Wall Street. And, I know that that will take all of us.
My mom is from Itta Bena and went to MVSU. I’m an 80’s baby and remember the area as a kid. Seeing the downtown area now was kinda heartbreaking because it was an actual living and breathing area when I was a kid. There used to be a Piggly Wiggly downtown where everyone went grocery shopping.
@@lindatodd3234 Runnymede is outside of the town. Cross the bridge over Roebuck, continue east. There is a curve in the road and as I remember that's where Runnemede starts.
Nothing there but a gas station wine store H&H why I left years ago it was a piggy wiggly it was bad then look worse now alot of good people there most of them never been out of Mississippi
Wow! I did my under studies at MVSU back in 1990-92
Hopefully, many will see your comment and reach out to you 👈🏽👍🏽
