- In this video I perform battery registration and coding on my M5's new battery. I show the procedure with the Bimmergeeks Protool App for Android devices plus the BMW tools software method (Tool32 and NCS expert).
Step by Step guide on how to register and code new battery (different methods explained):

Awesome video! That said, what's the name of the protool app? Also, does it really register the battery AND code the bmw computer all at once so the car is ready to go with the new battery? That seems way too easy given the cost some businesses charge to register a battery and code the computer.
Yes it does both functions on the same app.
@FrankiZmo awesome! Thanks for the fast reply! I've been stressed thinking I'd have to spend around 400 for battery and the register/coding labor but this app will cut well over $100 out of my expenses and I can do it at home!
Is this done via the normal OBD-II port underneath the steering area, or do you need like a 20-pin cable that's used in the engine bay?
ODB2 port under steering wheel.
Good video, however, on my e60 M5 I can’t get to change to 105 ah, even following you stet by step. It still read 90 ah. Any insight?
Do you need to do this if you replace the battery with a used battery which is exactly the same as the battery that was already in the car?
It is recommended but not totally necessary when replacing with used battery
Hey man what if my battery is 100 ah do i choose 105 ah to code?
Mhd awesome for registering same spec battery’s for 335i, Carly register and code different non same spec battery’s.
Carly app is a rip off, subscription for 80$ plus 80$ for adapter. Rather use BimmerLink and BimmerCode
Do I start the car during the battery registration and coding process?
Thanks very useful! Does tool32 have a .prg for N20 engine (F30 sedan)?
F generation cars are comletely different from E generation when it comes to coding. For F gen cars I would try using the Bimmercode app.
Your hat bro
I know!
Do you do encoding/registering with protools while the car is running or otherwise? Thanks
The safest way is to code and register the battery with the ignition on, preferably while the battery is hooked to a charger. You can also code some modules while the engine on idle but I don't recommend it.
So i put the new battery in, turn the ignition on and put a battery tender on as well?
So can I put the same amp battery but brand new, without registering it?
no need to code in a new spec but still need to register...this way the system knows your car has a new battery and will adjust the the current/voltage draw accordingly
How do I know the Ah of my battery?
If the battery is 700 amp then its a 70ah if it is a 650amp then 65ah a so on
Is there anyway to contact you my ediabas doesn’t have that selection
Hi Joseph...there could be a number of reasons...You probably have an incomplete version installed. Due to the complexity of the software I would recommend you visit the BMW forums since they cover all the possible causes.
Well I think I got it not positive
