We always ate them shallow fried in batter with salt and malt vinegar, often for Sunday breakfast after fishing on saturday. When you skin too many, your soft, wet fingertips will get torn to shreds so be aware. You don't notice at first but it hurts. I would have been inclined to use a running float and stopper there. There was a story fròm years ago about one in the aquarium at Taronga Park Zoo that had no body. Somebody had caught it, cut the head and gut out and thrown it back still alive, only for it to heal over and eventually be caught again.
I searched for Leather jackets as they give me so many great memories of when I was a kid fishing the Brisbane Water, many, many years ago.
Thank you.
They are still great fun to catch even for adults. And such a cool and interesting fish to look at.
great video looks like it was a hot bite
Soon as it was a change of tide the switched on for an hour

I always caught a number of leatherjackets each time I fished around Sydney Harbour pier, but 80% of them are with one or more leatherjacket lice
I've never encountered that. Maybe as I catch them I'm a little more open water
Where about did you catch those leatherjacket? In Victoria?
Sorry mate he isn’t in Victoria, up the coast a fair bit from there

Where did you get the schoolies from
what are schoolies?
@@jimfishing6522the bait used. School prawns
I think the 'schoolies' he's referring to are the small prawns/shrimp he's using for bait. Beautiful spot he's fishing at!!
Any good fish market will have them in season. I get them from Preston Market

About an hour north of Sydney mate
Where in Sydney can I catch leatherjacket
