Saves on having to lug the netbook out. I do feel more comfortable using an ear piece to talk on the phone with though. The phone is a bit big for my hands to use for any long term talking. Congratulations on having the most 2014 comment in a video that is somehow trending (somewhat) 5 years later cuz tablet, netbook, Bluetooth earpiece, 6.3" "big" phone
Watching this in 2020, it's fascinating to see how things have progressed. I remember seeing people using Megas back in the day and quietly laughing at them to myself. It just looked ridiculous putting something the size of a tablet to your ear. Yet I ordered a 6.9" Ultra (which I'm still waiting for), and I'm thinking: I could still use another 1/2" or so of screen! But back then, a 6.3" screen didn't equate to a 6.5" phone... you had to take into account the massive bezels on all sides. It's interesting how our expectations advances with the tech; like with battery capacity. I realize certain features require more power, but 3200mAh is still 3200mAh, yet it's not good enough anymore. One thing I do miss from back in the day are removable backs. Personally, I'd take the ease of exchanging batteries over IP ratings. Before waterproofing, I've dropped many a phone into everything, from water to soda to pee. There wasn't a time where a quick recovery, some rice and a blow drier didn't save the day👍
All those 6+ inch phones these days are just 5.5 inch to 5.8 inch phones that have been stretched vertically. This is a true 6.3 inch phone, and if it had the same aspect ratio it'd likely be considered a 7+ inch phone.
Those old 6 inch phones from back in the day are not taller but it is wider. So that's the reason of why it's uncomfortable to hold it in the hand. I also do have a 6.3 inch phone and I could reach all four corners. (With Samsung One-Handed mode 😏)
So glad this got recommended. Hearing Marques awed by the overwhelmingly massive...wait for it...6.3 inch display had me laughing the hardest I've laughed all week. The whole thing was great. And it made me almost miss the days where a 3200mah battery could last a day and a half. Was also cool to see how he's changed over the years. So much of the core is there, but he's evolved a ton. Definitely going to look at some more older videos.
For all those people saying 6 inches is a standard nowadays, you’re right, but compare the Mega 6.3 to a modern 6.3” display phone and the Mega’s going to be larger. How? 16:9 aspect ratio, which means that the screen is actually larger (and it looks like it) than on modern 18:9 or even 21:9 phones. Look up the numbers of square centimeters of the screens and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Oh, almost forget, I've taken some really decent pictures with it too!
I had one of these back in the day but the phone only lasted 2 years until I dropped it once on firm mud and the screen cracked messing up touch completely making it unusable. So I had to switch to iPhone since the warranty had already expired and it was time to replace my phone anyway. Nowadays i’m using a super cracked iPhone and the touch works perfectly but I gotta admit that I miss those Samsung days, might go back to them one day.
I can't believe how long ago this is from and the bezels look pretty small compared to so many phones that came after it....*cough cough* the Pixel 2 & iPhone 8
Had my Mega for almost a year absolutely love it. Never had any tech problems get ever where I go ppl ask me about my phone. I use for just about everything. the only thing I hate about it is there aren't many phone cases or holsters for it
Wow really? How well do they do in 2019? As a big phone fan I'm using the Mi Max 3 currently and would've loved having the Mega at the time, had I known about it
@@leesnow2701 I think it's a great phone. I wish Samsung would have kept up with the development of it. It's a perfect large phone, or small tablet. But, to answer your question about how well it does in 2019. I guess that depends on what you do with your phone. It's not close to Note capability, or even I-Phone. I only use my Mega for music, phone calls, pictures, UA-cam, two games, and Google searches. I don't have very many apps. So, for what I do, I'm having no problems. But I do know there are some apps it won't load, or allow to update because the original software edition won't update any further. But none of those are apps that I personally need, so my phone is operating just fine. I have a second Galaxy Mega that use strictly and only to download movies from Netflix so I can watch movies at work. I never use that Mega for phone calls since it doesn't have a Sim card, but all it takes is to put one in if I need it as a phone. I only have Netflix, and my banking app on that Mega. Plus, since I have two of the same phone I can swap batteries if one is dead and the other is full. I only use my work Mega at work. So, at home I keep it on the charger so I can always have a fully charged battery available. You can get unlocked Mega's on Amazon for $60, up to brand new ones near $200. So that's my Galaxy Mega experience. I hope this helps.
You do not need to be rooted to run 2 apps at the same time. The multi-window feature is available right out of the box. Even the Galaxy S3 can run 2 apps at the same time right out of the box on Android 4.1.2
The Mega 6.3 is dual-core 1.7ghz with 1.5bgb RAM. Not quad-core *****. Always wanted one but could never justify the price they sold for here in Nova Scotia. Ppl still want $300-$450 secondhand now...its nuts. I heard they were a bit sluggish but i used a rooted one running a slimrom port a few times and it felt good. The gaming performance was horrible tho.
Thanks for the quick and concise review of the Mega! The size of the Samsung Mega caught my attention -- I'd been thinking of getting the Samsung Galaxy S3, but the difference in screen size puts the Mega ahead. I've heard that with an unlocked version I can still use Straight Talk -- I don't like contracts! The longer battery life is also a plus for me.
I bought the MEGA mainly for the size. I figured I would learn as I go. And I have to admit, I LOVE THIS PHONE! I use a bluetooth for the phone usage, so no holding a phone to my head. I do not have cable or Internet at home and don't be it because this phone does everything I need. Netflix is awesome on this phone, reading ebooks is easy, and I can pay my games or use social media and feel like in ona tablet. Great review, you started all of the reasons why I bought this phone in the first place!
I'm receiving mine in the mail tomorrow and your review was helpful in having a better idea of what to expect. I'm hoping with the otter box protector it will be easier to hold on to and use with the disabilities I have. Holding onto a small phone is almost impossible and I use a headset for phone calls most of the time anyway. Looking forward to seeing how this works.

Throwback to when we could remove our back panel and batteries
I had one of these back in the day but the phone only lasted 2 years until I dropped it once on firm mud and the screen cracked messing up touch completely making it unusable. So I had to switch to iPhone since the warranty had already expired and it was time to replace my phone anyway. Nowadays i’m using a super cracked iPhone and the touch works perfectly but I gotta admit that I miss those Samsung days, might go back to them one day.
I can't believe how long ago this is from and the bezels look pretty small compared to so many phones that came after it....*cough cough* the Pixel 2 & iPhone 8
I don't know why the heck did this vid showed up on my recommended vids today!! 04.05.2019
Had my Mega for almost a year absolutely love it. Never had any tech problems get ever where I go ppl ask me about my phone. I use for just about everything. the only thing I hate about it is there aren't many phone cases or holsters for it
Look on ebay and amazon. There are plenty on there.
Who came here after the S20 video
watching this in 2019 is a little ... trippy almost
Lol
I love the Galaxy Mega. I still use them. I've had 3 since 2010.
First, that is a lot of cheerios. Second, is it possible to run 2 apps on screen at the same time say texting and youtube?
Yes you can run multiple on the screen simultaneously e.g. texting & youtube or streaming via the browser.
Berelore Yes. With root, Xposed & XHalo
You do not need to be rooted to run 2 apps at the same time. The multi-window feature is available right out of the box. Even the Galaxy S3 can run 2 apps at the same time right out of the box on Android 4.1.2
Good to hear someone who actually gets what the manufacturer was trying to do as far as optimize run time, sacrificing resolution and other features.
lol watching in 2017 and 3200 mah is meh in this point in time.
longlostpotato ._. hahaha i have one too and we are in the same situation
6 inch screens are meh at this point in time.
Alex 2017 What’s the mWh rating of these batteries as mAh does not mean anything
@Vitor Cavalcanti what phone? I'm using s10+ 6.4 inch 4100 mah
Still more than most Iphones lul
Sometimes I like UA-cam's algorithm 😂
watching this on 2021 - loving baby Marques.
2023: 8" screen
Then : Mega
2019 : Galaxy fold ; more or less a mini tab
The Mega 6.3 is dual-core 1.7ghz with 1.5bgb RAM. Not quad-core *****. Always wanted one but could never justify the price they sold for here in Nova Scotia. Ppl still want $300-$450 secondhand now...its nuts. I heard they were a bit sluggish but i used a rooted one running a slimrom port a few times and it felt good. The gaming performance was horrible tho.
2013: 6.3" screen is way too big!
2020: New 6.9" display on Galaxy S20 Ultra
Now 6 years later phones below 6.5 inches are being considered small😂😂😂😂 time changes
Idk if small but I would say that 6'1 - 6'5 inches it's the standard, below 6 in it's definitely "small" lol
Below 6 inches not 6.5
Yellow Snow but those modern phones are so thin you end up with a 5" screen when watching videos or plating videogames 😂.
Oh UA-cam.. thx for this 5 (almost 6) years old recommendation lol
ya thank youtube for bringing me to u now i can master bates
Anyone else here in 2023? 😅
Great review, you started all of the reasons why I bought this phone in the first place!
i am from future 2027 we have 7 inch screens now
There's already 7inch screen phone before 2020
My mom has the Mega and she want the Samsung Galaxy Tab the 10 inches version. So big is better!
2013:nah!!
2014:nah!
2015:nah.
2016:nah.
2017:nah?
2018:nah??

2019:Guys,let's put this in everyone's recommendations
!!
UA-cam's High
Who's here from the s20 ultra review?
Me
I'm receiving mine in the mail tomorrow and your review was helpful in having a better idea of what to expect. I'm hoping with the otter box protector it will be easier to hold on to and use with the disabilities I have. Holding onto a small phone is almost impossible and I use a headset for phone calls most of the time anyway. Looking forward to seeing how this works.
