  • In this video, I quickly explain the basics of blow through turbocharging with a VW 34pict-3 carby, one of my favourite types of turbocharging due to the ability of being very simplistic and easy to work on once set up for boost

Great information on how this carb works. Currently mine is clogged or I have a vacuum leak I need to track down hopefully today. I think a lot of people owning this carb would find this information very useful, Thanks for posting!!

never found a video on youtube with so many info about the carbs. maybe you should do a video explaining how a stock carb (no boost) works , it would be priceless!

Look for Renault 5 GT turbo carbs, Solex 32 DIS , many vw owners used them for turbo applications. You can find period scanned pdf files with internal passages diagrams and step by step functions..

Good tutorial. But the inlet valve is not a restriction as such. You can get valve sizes up to 200. In a 34 Solex a 150 is plenty. Yes, if you boost an otherwise stock 1600 you will not be able to boost that hard because you will soon run into valve float. From what I have seen, about 6 psi and 90ish hp. But if you build the engine for it, then the first 135 hp is relatively easily obtainable. The most power I have made through a modified 34 Solex is 150, but on a 1776 displacement.

@@kuyamakel no, you need an AFR gauge and tune to your fuel air ratio

Hello, great vid. I've found soldering the holes quite challenging. Can something be inserted to block holes from the bottom of emulsion tube? Is there a particular technique for soldering the tube. I've soldered electrics before. Cheers, and thanks!

    • @EverythingAnthonySOS
      @EverythingAnthonySOS  4 роки тому

Try using the minimum amount of solder, and use a larger drill to clear most of the solder and then use your sized drill to break through. You don't need a lot of solder just enough to block the holes then you can sand or file off the excess

Wow, I was looking for a video explaining how the 34 pict 3 works, and feed me for a future project.
For now I'm looking for answer for my problem. I rebuilt my carb but now the engine refuse to run.
It start from the burst pump but it stop right after.. looks like the gas from the idle and main jet don't works.... I didn't figured it out yet. I cleaned it 4 times with 2 time 24h soak in degreasing juice. With compress air I blowed in all holes...
Still problems. It stops 3 seconds after I started the engine. If I rev up the engine and keep let say at 3000rpm it will stop suddenly after 4 seconds. If I keep rocking the gas.. it will stay on as long as I continue to rock the pedal.
    Any clue?
    Thanks a lot
    Felix

If the choke shaft were o-ringed, could it remain?

yes , I see no reason why not providing it will not inhibit air flow

Hello ,Could you tell me,in drawing which position could be air jet and idle jet in carburator “solex”3 at WV beetle 12000cc and 1974 manufacturer (year),because I have a problem in carburator I don’t know it.If you teach how could fix it,I’ll be happy.Thank you again from Kosova.

Your Air jet is in the main body in the venturi , it can be removed with a flat bladed screwdriver , idle jet is behind a screw in the side of the main carburetor body

In a IDF you can buy turbo emulsion tubes , they are more complicated to set up than a 34pict ,once sorted they perform well
