Thank you! This video is clear and to the point. Just fixed my AFS error by replacing my cornering bulbs! Took less than 10 mins and all thanks to this video.
I'm having trouble getting the connector to "click" back into place. Is there a particular way or angle that you have to insert it in order for it to click?
Would a burnt out side bulb cause the headlights to no longer adjust while steering and also neither of the side lights come on. I pulled into my driveway one night and noticed the driver side corner light went out suddenly. After this my headlights do not turn with the steering and neither of my corner bulbs come on. I have this error on dash and they do do the self check when car turns on. I guess my question is does the whole system stop working from a burnt out bulb? Still havent got a chance to check the corner bulb. Its a 2016 gulf r as well. Thanks for the input.
Yes, one single burnt bulb causes the AFS error, and whenever the error is present, all AFS functionalities stop working. However right after you startup the car, before the car "realizes" that there's something wrong, the adjust functionality could work for a short period of time.
@@YiyeTinkers yep that is exactly what i am seeing. The lights calibrate, i put it in reverse the one corner light comes on and the other (that i was suspecting burnt out) doesn't. Then the error pops up. Just filling this in for anybody else having issues. Thanks for the info.
I had the same error, I have tested the lights in the day light after replacing one bulb, didn't see the conering light turn on after putting the light on full beam. however the error message didnt show . Does the cornering light only trigger when it gets darker ?
I might be wrong but I think the cornering light only works when the light switch is put in auto. So maybe try it again when it's darker? Also if you put your car in reverse gear, both of the cornering light should light up - that's the easiest way to test it.
If I put my car in reverse non of mine light up on either side ? I'm thinking surely they can't both go at same time, any ideas what else this could be
If the error message is already there, the car will shut off all AFS related features. So to test this, you would need to turn off the car, start it and immediately put it in reverse before the error pops up. If the error is related to the cornering bulb, the error should pop up a few seconds after you put it in reverse. If the error is already there before you start the engine, then it might be something else.
@@YiyeTinkers your a legend my mate, I have just done this and the drivers side bulb is out. Thanks alot pal you have saved me alot of hassle now I know its just a bulb 💡
This is happening to me, my lights do the dance when I turn it on and my cornering lights come on when I put my indicators on. but my lights don’t turn when I go around turns
Saleem Maroof Sorry I meant your front lights’ self check process, where the lights points to different directions for a couple seconds when you start the car, like I have in the video. If you don’t have that your issue might not be caused by the same reason.
Very usefull video. I did not know the cornering lights were in the headlights. I thought that those were the fog lights. Because when I turn left or right the fog lights turn on and off. I am gonna check if i have the same problem
I looked up some photos of 2019 model and it seems like although the headlights are LED, the cornering lights still seem to be halogen. There is a round access port at the back of the headlight, might be able to access the bulb through there
@@YiyeTinkers there’s definitely no way to access these bulbs. The back of my headlights only have a few plugs on it that’s it. This will be my 4th gti and it doesn’t look like any of the other lights. I have the lights that move when you go around turns also. Not sure if that’s on all of them. The weird thing is the light is intermittent and last night they both appeared to be working fine but the light wasn’t on. Comes on during the day though occasionally. I just bought the car with 7k miles on it.
The light on the dash comes on during the day. Not sure if the lights are working at that time. Lastnight the dash light wasn’t on and both corner lights were working.

Thanks for making this video. I used it as reference when fixing the light error code which came up in my 2016 Golf R. Cheers!
Will try this next, thx!!

Sorry I haven't had the same issue. It was pretty straightforward for my case
@@YiyeTinkers Okay thanks for the reply!
Thank you! Is there any video about changing the headlight bulb? (Low / High)
I haven’t had issue with the headlight bulbs yet. I’m sure there are plenty of good tutorials on youtube

Question I pulled out my assembly today to switch out a bulb one of them is now facing like straight at the ground
I’ve never adjusted the headlight on this car but from your description I think this video might be helpful - ua-cam.com/video/APz3NxpELvs/v-deo.html

@@Andrew-on5do That’s unfortunate but since it’s quite new, is it still under warranty?
@@YiyeTinkers yes it is. I feel like it’s a software issue. That’s for the help though.
What if they dont make any move when I turn the ignition ON? Any ideas?
Then I guess you might need to use a code reader to see if there’s any error code.
No codes coming out
Turn the ligths on to show the code in display and remove the key, and start again🤔
Thank you for u reply back but I got rid of my vw
How do you know which side is burned out ?
Put your car in reverse right after you start your car, before the error msg pops up. Both sides should light up, and you should be able to tell that one side is not lighting up
thank you
After changing bulbs the error still shows up
