I been waiting for this video for a month now lol! Glad you dropped it. W Content!
More to come!
same!
Great shots. Great move for donating proceeds from picture sales to help the community there.
It was the least I could do
I use Luminar Neo and you just pointed out a tool that I have never thought to use, the Studio Light tool. Now I will give that a try. I don't use the dodge and burn tool any more but use the develop tool and the different masks for dodging and burning.
It was wonderful to hear you are giving the proceeds to make wells for clean water. I have helped provide clean water for two different places in Africa. It is one of the most powerful ways to let people have a better life.
We're glad to hear that you had a great time. We're heading out to Zambia and Zimbabwe in a couple of months. We love Africa it will be our 11th trip there.
That sounds like an amazing trip! Enjoy!
Hey Vanessa! Thank you SO much for some R1 content!!! I have the R1 (as well as the R5) and the RF100-300 (+RF1.4x). Was very encouraged that you thought this setup did well for you on safari! Glad you survived the outing with that hairless ape... Jared 😂. Love you too Jared!
Trip of a lifetime! Good on ya Vanessa. Beautiful captures of nature at it finest! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks so much!
Love these so much! Thanks so much for this!! And I’m happy that Jared survived. 😂😂
In all seriousness, I’m so grateful that you shared this. I tend to lean more to bird and wildlife shooting and it’s great to see your experiences.
That cub photo is amazing! ❤
Thx 😊
I have never had to travel with my camera gear. Would you consider making a video on how to pack and what you check-in and what to carry-on. Also, what to look out for at the airport? Keep up the great work.
Great idea!
I was definitely waiting for this video...any special offerings tied to the word "vista?" ha ha. love it!
Haha there should be
Looks like a fun trip. Thanks for sharing !
Thanks for watching!
Oh, how awesome! As an Indians fan, I was crushed when we traded Marco Scutaro to the Brewers. I'm excited to see he's still involved with MLB!
Wow!! So many beautiful shots. As hard as it was to deal with i am sure it was so awesome to capture those moments in time. Love the photos
Thank you! I’m so glad you liked the photos!
Always enjoy your videos Vanessa! If you don't mind a side-question, I'm new to Mac and I see you have a nice slideshow on your desktop behind you. What app or iOS feature are you using for that?
Just the screensaver pulling from a folder of my fav photos 😊
Im so excited to hear about it. It's a dream.
You are amazing artist Vanessa and human to boot
Thx 😊
Awesome video.Thank you.!
Very cool experience. I'd love to do one of these African Safari trips one day.
You absolutely should!
What a great video! Luminar Neo seems to over edit a bit for my taste…but that’s just me! Your photos are fabulous and every bit as good as Jared’s! (And he’s really good!) most of all, it looks like you had a blast! Thanks for taking me along!
Haha well, that’s just MY editing so I over edit for your taste 😂
Looks like an awesome time!! Great photos!!
It truly was!
Well Done Vanessa!
Thanks Steve!
That lizard picture is sooo good
Haha thx
Great video. Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Did you have any trouble with the 100-300with the 1.4x attached to the R1?? When I use that setup I get a lens error 60. Just wondering if you had that problem.. Thanks
No, not at all. Are you using all Canon equipment? I would get it serviced to see what’s wrong because that’s definitely not normal if you are putting it on correctly and making sure it clicks and is tightened.
Thanks for responding, yes will call canon on this issue. That was a great trip that you will never forget.
With the 100-300, would your first choice for extender be the 1.4X or the 2.0X?
Very informative and fun video. Do you have a Luminar discount code for your subscribers?
Yep, it’s in the description!
Vanessa fantastic photos ❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much 😊
Hi Vanessa what a well done video I enjoyed seeing all the great photos you were able to get and it looked like a good time was had by all and of course I love that you are giving back by selling your wonderful photos you were able to shoot while you were there I think it shows what a kind person you are ❤😊
hi, did you manage to keep the fine dust out of the cameras and lens ok? did you have to do much preventative maintenance etc to keep the cameras/lens going in their peak condition?
lol - unmmm my cameras are a little dirty
I'm so happy to find a Professional UA-camr who uses Luminar... I also use Affinity... Thanks Vanessa!
Glad I could help!
If you could only choosing one of the cameras for work, witch one would you be choosing?
Making a video on that soon 😊
@VanessaJoy iwe been putting it off getting either cause i care what people like yourself and Jared in the business think! 👍
Hi Vanessa Thank you for the video it looks like a lot of fun with all this great photographers that I also follow in UA-cam.
I've been asked by my granddaughter to take photos at her birthday 15 years old (quinceañera) and I was wondering if you could do a video touching some of the main points not to miss or to give me some pointers. It's not a wedding but it sure is looking like one :-) Thank you so much for all your input/videos.
Luis Sydney Australia.
That sounds like a fun shoot! I don’t have any quinceanera videos, but look at any of the full wedding days and watch the bridal posing in the beginning then fast-forward to the reception and that’s pretty much it.
Vanessa - wonderful video. What organization are you partnering with to fund the wells? Love this!
Likely World Vision but I’m still working on that part
@@VanessaJoylove it!
Funny and delightful video. At the end of my safari in Kenya with all the bouncing around in the vehicle that you showed so well felt at the end of an amazing trip my kidneys were lost somewhere on the mara. It is a magical place. Vanessa, when I was there years ago, I brought over a dozen memory cards. Am going back to Africa in a couple of weeks, different location and decided to buy bigger cards to bring less of them. Curious how many cards you went thru?
I was a little worried about that too, I brought more cards than I needed and didn't end up using them all. Really only kept a 1TB in each and a 512 in the second slot
@@VanessaJoy Thank you.
So how would you compare the AF of the R1 to the R5II? You kept saying that for the difficult cases your went R1 every time. Is the R5II much worse in that regards?
It’s not that it is worse, it’s just that the R1 is made for that so I went for it when faced with those circumstances. I can’t say I found really any error or lack of autofocus performance in the Canon R5 Mark II, and I also didn’t do a side-by-side comparison and the point it was more just a feeling more confident in the R1 in those kind of circumstances
@VanessaJoy Fair enough! You're not the first UA-camr to specifically mention the R1's amazing AF, so got me curious about the R5II comparison.
Thanks for the reply!
So, overall what’s your choice of camera? R1 or R5II?
Video coming… lol and honestly I haven’t filmed it yet but I plan to. Running them both through sports photography next week!
Some wonderful images, and I wish I had the money to go on a safari !
For a all rounder lens what about canons 200-400L with built in 1.4 teleconverter !
The 100-300/2.8L is a monster lens, works new flawless with extenders. Great shots and glad you guys had fun! Will check out the site too
Awesome thank you!
Thanks for sharing your experiences, I really was looking forward to seeing how things went. Appreciate your efforts on clean wells, I know that was huge when I was in Nigeria in 2010.
Hoping!!
Omg, great photos! What an experience, thank you for sharing it.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊
With this software available, do I need an expensive camera and lens set up?
lol well with most photo it’s garbage in garbage out.
You know how to tell a tale, that was very entertaining! Looked like a great bunch to share this experience with.
It was!
How long before Jared's "Fropack Vista Preset"?
Bahahahaha
Just a FYI, the prints link does not seem to work in Chrome. Great on the R1 comments. Just bought one.
I just checked and it seemed to work. It goes to a sign-up page because the website is not quite ready yet.

Jared Polin squad here .. what’s up boys
Fantastic video, thank you VJ
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! Super content.
Thank you.
Africa has so many country that are very different from one country to the other.
It might sound a bit of a clichet when you call Kenya Africa...
You’re right, Kenya is only one country in Africa. But I label it that way because that’s what most people say here in the US “African safari” so that’s what’ll resonate most with my main audience 😊
How much resolution is a Canon R1 camera
24mp... and one of those elephant photos was just printed 13' high at a tradeshow! Posting it in my community chat
My Z8 and 180-600 are my Pro Wild Life Combo here in S Africa
You added skies??
Just the one with the elephant where I mentioned it was totally overcast. The landscape ones were the skies 😊
You got so many incredible pictures ❤
Thx 😊
I respect the sponsorship.
Is there a comparison you can make between between Evoto & Luminar Neo?
Still going back & forth before making a final purchase.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 🌴 📸
They are too totally separate programs. Evoto is really meant for retouching in bulk but if you were going to compare that to anything, it would be Luminar’s/Skylum’s program Aperty -which I do have a video on this channel about if you want to check it out
At 14:30 you talk about the R1 excelling with auto focus during fast moving and obstructed objects, but doesnt R1 and R5II have the same exact focusing tech? Asking cause Im still trying to decide between R1 and R5II
I believe they do to be honest, but it was more of an in my head feeling that the R1 is built for speed and durability, and all of that which kept making me lean towards grabbing it
They do have different autofocus systems. The R1 is a more advanced Cross Type AF which a is a first for mirrorless bodies and the R5 II is an improved version of Dual Pixel AF that they’ve been doing in r bodies for a while
Another sublime vlog.
Glad you enjoyed it
@VanessaJoy excellent honest opinions
What did Jared think of your teleconverter? 😅
He was very cranky
You went to the continent of Africa and the country of Kenya whose capital is Nairobi.
Welcome to Tanzania next time, we have the Serengeti national park which is way more majestic_ Trust me 😉👌
Yes I would love to come there!
True story, Tanzania’s safari is 2nd to none.
Thank you for clarifying where on the continent they were. I heard Africa so many times I honestly got confused.
Great 🎉
Glad you liked it 🙂
Great video and I'm convinced that JP and you were siblings in another life!
lol
Omgosh
Fantastic pictures
thanks :-)
Best vlog ❤
Thx 😊
0:38 Vanessa, you gotta do a ‘FroKnowsPhoto’ part 2!
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Ok, this part of the headline made me laugh "African Wildlife Photography Made EASY...", it read like one of those "Blah, Blah, Blah for Dummies" books to me 🤣
SUPERBE that You were able to see and photograph some of the Big 5 in their natural habitat.
Did You have to swap batteries and if so how many did You end up using?
How were the summer temps just south of the Equator?
Looking forward to seeing Your video on Masai.
lol can I be super honest? There’s this little AI title generator feature and I pretty much just do what they say because I’m good at taking pictures but not really good at writing headlines 😜
@@VanessaJoy 😄
Holy sh!t. Your photos are AWESOME. You can tell you're a pro and that someone else isn't... Jared 😜
Thanks, I try my best to make the most of these experiences!
Congratulations on surviving a safari with Jared Polin!!!
Haha 🤣
200k soon
Hoping so! It’s SO SLOW
Great safari, where can I book a trip like that one?
Here’s the link to Matt‘s trip that I went on!
www.dirksenphoto.com/kenya
I will just go with Vanessa next trip 😊
Far better to Self Drive in South Africa for Wild Life
Instead of calling him Jared, you should have said Mr. Pollin. lol
😂
The vast majority of Canon shooters going on African Safaris will not have Canon R1 cameras or the Canon RF 100-300mm f2.8L it’s only elite groups like the one you travelled with that can afford such equipment.
There will be many that shoot with an R6 MKII, R5 or R5 MKII or an R7 and most will be paired with either the RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1L IS USM or the RF 200-800mm f 6.3 - 9 IS USM.
Having been on African safaris a few times the RF 100-500mm is the best compromise with either a 50mm or 85mm for wider shots (I prefer 50mm).
I also found a bean bag to be really useful and a monopod for a variety of uses.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I used the RF 100-500 with my R3 in Botswana (in 2022) and found it great from a vehicle if the light wasn’t too dark. But I also tool my 1DX II with my 500 f/4 to use from a boat and for birds (with a 1.4x).
Great shots, great editing but not the type of editing I like to see on these type of photos, sky replacements etc
Showing all the fun that can be 😊
Well, happy for You, its easier for You to edit photo's, but imo, its kinda cheating to use luminar
It’s definitely part of the art!
But, will Skittles work in Luminar? Asking for a guy…
🤪
Jared being quiet , yea right lol
Who paid for this trip?
I did!
Everything is easier with 20k+ worth of gear. Show me the badass with a Rebel and a kit kens doing it.
I have a whole video series about this…
@VanessaJoy well then, i will check it out. Only here because Fro talks about you so much, but now I'm intrigued...
you look so beautifully stunning without the makeup on the trip. wow... you are so naturally beautiful... wish I had a Christian wife as beautiful...
Thank you for the kind words. 😊
Vanessa longue life success health 2025
❤️
No tigers then.
lol no…
I can't afford any of your artwork , im in a bad situation financially
Share then please 🙏
I often walk in Lion Country >> its far safer than crossing a New York Traffic Intersection .. Life time growing up in the African bush and my 53 yrs with Nikon
Lol
no offense but having that expensive gear makes it very easy
Literally the title of the video, why would I take offense?
@@VanessaJoy i am extra careful while commenting anything these days
Too much editing for my taste. For extreme editing Photoshop is my go to. And has been since day 1 back when you could buy stand alone Adobe products for one time payment. Great photos nonetheless!
Whatever floats your boat 😜
Did you use Skittles,
@@zepplinrox3 Salt Water Taffy
Adobe is full of trackers and spyware!
STOP complaining!!! Now skipping...
What?
Don’t go next time Vanessa , no worth it
Why
Wish I was as fast as you in edit 😎🤓😂👍🤡….spot on with etiquette..nothing more annoying than sharing a Jeep with usually non photographers who talk ..move around..and much more..glad you had a nice time 👍😎
Haha well we did speed up the editing clips 😂
