Not sure how many times I have viewed this or the abbreviated versions but I can tell you that this has become my go to workout video when I’m on the elliptical. Fantastic soundtrack and great prep for my CDR this coming September. Thanks for posting this video. Great job and fun to watch.

Awesome video! I currently have a DRZ400 but I am picking up a Tenre 700 and following this route. I'm in Houston so there will be some extra days to and from. Enjoyed the video, very well made.
Fantastic job guys. Loved the choice of music. Sure brought back memories from the parts I did years ago. Glacier is still just a breath taking as ever. Thanks for the work to post this.

I leave on this route (sorta, I'm trying to follow the actual CDT a bit more) tomorrow on my 690. Been planning it since seeing your original video on ADVrider. Thanks for the motivation and the great cinematography!
I watched the short and then this long version. Really shows what a trip like this entails. I completed the TAT 2019 and with my DR650 stored in Washington, I’m planning this. Great job. Even the music was good.
Dropped in from link on Itchy Boots. Great ride. Great sound track and drone work by some real ADV riders. As old enduro comp rider in NM, I am Impressed. Tried the Black Bear in a rental Jeep with stock tires and found that near impossible. Returned the Jeep in Ouray with a bit of relief, according to wife and kids. ;)
Thanks! I saw a stock Four Runner do Black Bear ahead of us. He was scraping rocks the whole way, and those stock tires didn't offer much. He made it, but I doubt it was worth the damage to the vehicle. I am not familiar with Itchy Boots though...who or what is that?

There was a guy on the ADV site with a bike just like that. He wrote The TAT Preparation Thread. Sweet looking ride. Great video. Thanks for sharing. cheers
Great job, Dustin! Nice to be watching this in between stints of mounting and balancing a new set of tires on my Honda NC700x. The itch for a ride gets stronger.... but I'm going to have to settle for a few days in the eastern Oregon desert, nothing too wild & crazy. Ride on!
I'm recovering from knee surgery taking in some GCD moto vids. Going to head over to ADV R and read your RR. Just wanted to say y'all are the only legit riders I've seen in about 5 vids. I was beginning to think only fat midd lifers on Euro pigs(i can say that, I am one) were the only people that made vids of this trail; at least now I know what the real route looks like. That s hit around Teluride is no joke and I know that wasn't the least of it. Strong work!

Nicely done guys! Definitely a trip on my bucket list. I like your front fairing and shield on the wr, interested in adding that to mine . I'd like to know what it is and where to get it . Again awesome job!
Mark Hudson Thanks! The fairing is a Britannia Composites...good quality stuff. They're made in Canada, but ship to the states no problem. Definitely makes the inevitable highway runs much more comfortable...also the dash is handy for mounting GPS and accessory plugs.
Nice work boys, thanks so much for taking us on the adventure with you, job done, great work!! Just for my own edification what was the brand of the tyre that failed after 30 miles??
Great video (and music!). I'm doing the CDT on a Husky 701 in July. What do you think would be the best GoPro set up for a long trip like this? Short bursts of high-quality video or continuous recording of mid-quality? Bike mounted cameras or helmet mounted? Forward looking only or forward and backward looking?
Thanks! We mostly just did bursts of 1080 video...we didn't run continuous. We tried to do a bike mounted go pro at first but the video was way too shaky so we ran a helmet mount. A lot of it was also just handheld cell phone video. I got fairly practiced at riding with one hand and recording with the other haha...probably not the safest!

Loved the trip. The CDT is on the bucket list. Were you using a Desert Fox fuel bladder for the 690? Any other mods to her for the trip? How'd the Lynx fairing work out? Did you change gearing for the mountains or keep it stock? The descent into Telluride was well done. I could feel what it would be like trying to hoss my KLR down that rock face (definitely deflating tires below highway spec. for that ride). How slow did you need to go so the drone could keep up in "follow" mode? I liked the straight down follow mode where the drone had to turn around. Nice touch. Did you use any ND filters on the drone? Trying to put our kit together for the MABDR and the TAT or TAT to CDT. So many good rides out there. Thanks for sharing!
I think it was a Desert Fox...no significant 690 mods besides a skidplate, small windscreen, and Tusk luggage rack. The lynx fairing in the WR worked great. I really like the wind protection and dash to mount gps. 690 gearing was stock. WR was geared down to 14/49. I don't remember the top speed for the drone follow. I think it was about 20-25. Also, I have no idea what an ND filter is...I'm afraid I'm not that advanced hah. Drone was set to the default settings for the most part I think.
@@dustin.bradford No worries on filters and drones... it was below zero last week and going to be in the teens tomorrow morning. I'm living on a steady stream of motorcycle videos. lol It looked like the colors from the drone were richer than from your helmet mounted cameras which caused me to wonder if you were using a filter. I like the Lynx fairings (from what I see), it appears that they give you some space to mount stuff and the raising and lowering of the windshield seems near perfect (down for technical riding, up for highway). Really enjoyed the video. I could put it on a loop, just for the sound track!
Love the long video. I’ve been torn between buying one of those 2 bikes to do this trip. Decisions decisions. In your opinion is there any advantage to one bike or the other for this trip. Basically which bike would u prefer if you were to do this trip again. I currently have a ktm 990 and am looking to add something smaller to the collection.
Thanks! I think it just comes down to personal preference. Full disclosure: I have 30k miles on my 250 but basically 0 seat time on a 690. I did recently buy a Husky 701 (basically a white KTM690) though, and I'm trying to get it properly set up to do this stuff. I think it will be great at this stuff once I'm done, but Its definitely more pricey than the WR...in both initial cost and aftermarket mods. The WR will feel smaller and more maneuverable, but it is also seriously down on power compared to the 690/701. The power differential is most noticeable I think if you have to do long highway runs. Also, the 690 will be better for larger riders.
Hey Guys, thanks for uploading. I'm planning to follow the same route on a KTM 690. Did you have any issues w gas? I have the Rade Garage 1.6 gallon extra tank under the seat. Should I take a Rotopax 1 gallon or 2 Gallon too?
Main thing is know your bike and how its fuel range may vary with different riding conditions. If you have a 250 mile fuel range you shouldn't have any issues. You can get by with a little less, but you may need to plan some fuel detours. We detoured from Pie Town to Datil in NM to get fuel. Also, we cut out the 37 mile section east of Hwy 287 in WY from Rawlins to Pinedale. Those are the longest 2 sections based on the GPSKevin route that we used. We ended up having no real issues with fuel. The stock tank on the 690 made it between most fuel stops...I think we figured it was good for 140 to 150 miles. Wes carried 2 of those 5 liter fuel bladders on the 690 for the longer bits which could get him probably another 100+ miles...I don't think we ever had to fully test the range. My aftermarket tank on the WR250 is good for about 180 miles usually, and I carried a 1 gallon rotopax for about another 60ish miles.
Thinking about making this trip this summer on my ‘18 690. Did you do anything different for fuel capacity? Or was the stock 3.2 enough? Looking at gps route there is some long stretches between fuel.
The 690 carried fuel bags for the long stretches. Two bags at 1 gallon each. However, I think we were able to squeeze 1.5 gallons in each one. So, we had 3 extra gallons for the 690 and it was plenty.
Thanks...i used gpskevin's route for the most part. The only real difference was the part where we went over Stony Pass and Black Bear Pass in Colorado. That stuff I mapped out myself with google maps. www.gpskevinadventurerides.com/great-continental-divide-motorcycle-ride

That Yamaha Dealer in billings is pretty shoddy.....and despite that, its the best authorized dealership in town. Honda is way worse. Right next to the Yamaha store though is a little shop called Hanson's Motorsports. give that guy your business. You'll get more than your money's worth. stay away from the stealerships up here in Billings. its awful.
