i clicked on this expecting to skip through chapters and watch 5 min max. I watched almost the whole thing. super interesting when you think about all the work put into this, from the shooting, downloading and editing video. mapping out his route. Actually riding through those conditions. having to pick his bike up every time it falls. all the way down to what gloves he should buy. very impressive sir.
What a great story. Couldn’t stop watching. I’m going on 72 years old now and somehow still have dreams of doing a trip like that in the not too distant future. Hey, okay, give me a break. I can dream, can’t I🏍💨💨👊
Hey brother I'm dreaming with you. I have survived multiple myeloma for 11 years and just talking my xr650 out for a 1 hour ride makes me feel so happy
I had one also that I made street legal. It was a great bike but I was afraid that kicking it would damage my right hip worse or possibly break it. I got the 650L used for $4,500. I really like it, wish it was lighter but oh well.
@@dangrimes5078 It was a beast to kick thats for sure. Look up Fridays The Bomb on here and search xr650r. You'll see me in the thumbnail on it while he is on his xr650L.
Hey Man, 42 minutes in and it strikes me that you've created a movie. I could watch this again and again. The scenery and your honest commentary makes me wish I was on the trip with you. I Thank You for taking the time, and spending the money, and, and, and.... for sharing the trip with us. Much Respect!
After the TAT IN 2019, a couple western BDR’S last year, I’m thinking the CDR should be next. As it would be solo too, I really enjoyed your video. So well documented and a view of what to expect. I’ll bypass a a few places though. Need to respect my 70 year old bones.
I too would like to do this ... while respecting my 72 year old bones. However, I can't get a clear idea from his video about the tracks. I live in CO and can't recognize some of what he does. Perhaps we should ask him for his tracks :)
I did this trip last year with a group of 4 other riders out of the U.P. in MI. We did a total of 6,700 miles for the whole trip. I was on my KTM 790 Adventure R, it was the perfect bike for this ADV ride. It was my longest ride of my life and a truly epic adventure! Very nice job with your video. Dave J
I see similar comments. I figured I would watch segments and skip through here and there but ended up watching the whole thing. Great video! Considering how much work it can be just riding, the fact that you took all the time to record so much video. Watching the whole thing is inspiring and causes me to want to get back out there. I love dual sport riding as much as any other type riding. Took a month-long road trip this August out in the northwest on my BMW RT and hit many national parks. Round trip ended up at a little over 6000 miles. Sturgis, Yellowstone, Yosemite and everything in in Utah. What a beautiful country. I get your position with the work, life balance. It all takes money. Thanks for the great video.
Hey Brady, as I type this I just got through the section where you dropped the bike repeatedly on that tough section, and it hit me with total clarity: this is the guy who helped my wife through the helmet saga at your day job recently! Thanks for all the help, and for such a rad video. Your videos are inspiring! :-)
This is the first CDT motorcycle video that I have watched in it's entirety (over a couple of days) and I really enjoyed it!! The highlight for me is when "White Signal, NM" flashed onto the screen around 5:48. I live in White Signal and you were very close to my house. I'm 58 years old, retired, and an experienced off-road rider, and sometime soon I really want to do the CDT on my Yamaha WR250R. I also want to do the western part of the Trans America Trail from NE New Mexico to Oregon . Watching this video has lit a fire under my ass...thanks!!!
@🎲 L U C K Y 🎲 I have a 2020 great choice. I have had 16 motorcycles in my life and the Versys is my all time favorite. I have had every kind of bike nothing is close to as much fun. Mine is still mostly stock but I am going to go to the 15 sprocket soon. As long as I stay out of mud or sand the stock tires do great. Going to go to a 50 50 dirt street soon as its time for new.
Thank you for filming and sharing this adventure. Your stuff (motorbikes & real estate demographics) is thoughtful, informative and easy to watch. Your attention to detail and enthusiasm for the projects are contagious. Again, thank you.
Dude! Loved every minute, cept for the shoulder. I'm not even a dirt biker - street only but really got into this. It brought back memories of bike trips with the wife on back from Alberta Canada to So Cal and back. Started to tear up cuz I didn't want this to end. Bravo!
@MeerkatAdv. You Rock! I love the way you narrate the trip. Exactly how I’d do it in my head. You also leave plenty to my imagination which puts ME in the picture as well. Perfect. I love how you talk to the animals and stop to talk with people along the way. Thanks for doing it.
Thank you for the inspiration. My best friend/wife left me before Christmas. Since then I have been a basket case. You have helped give me hope for one facet of recovery.
In 4 yrs in after my divorce and been riding and its a blast looking to buy an adventure bike to get off the highway. This video just confirms my plan.
Been planning to do this trip for years and really appreciate all your work to share it with our community! Absolutely awesome and realistic view on what it takes to accomplish this epic ride! Great work and so well done!! Definitely need to rethink my bike selection for this ride as well!
I don't understand why this video doesn't have more likes. I'm definitely a stay on the asphalt kind of rider, but I thoroughly enjoyed the journey with you on the CDT. I'm amazed at how well your electronic accessories survived the ride. Congrats on a successful trip.
Man this was amazing you made me feel like I was on this trip with you I watched it all the way through thank you for giving a video I never knew I needed to watch
Just finished watching this with my wife. We both enjoyed the vicarious travel very much! Fantastic footage and a great demeanor throughout. Glad your trip ended with reasonably good health. Thanks from an adv rider in northwest Washington state~
You got me to watch a 2 hour UA-cam video without skipping! I skip thru 15 min videos lol. I know this is a few years old but great job, definitely inspiring me to try it.. doubtful I'll try it solo tho.
Poor bugger, made the continental divide, to do a spill in a gas station, no shit. Know how you feel, I was riding my bike in Sonora California Oct 2020, got hit head-on by an airborne deer in a hairpin left turn, dislocated left shoulder, broke 4 ribs, lacerated spleen, buggered left knee, ambulance, helicopter evac, coma two days, ICU for a week, shoulder surgery, the surgery went well this Nov 8 2021, still riding. Recommend you buy a heated jacket liner and gloves, ditch the heated grip. Get warm morning or Gerbing heated gear, they work heating your whole upper torso and all the way around your fingers and hands. Thanks for sharing your journey.
What a great job you have done sharing you adventure and promoting ADV. THANKS I am getting ready for my 2024 ADV NC BDR on a Guzzi v85tt. I never expected to watch the whole thing yet (two days la tew) here I am finishing it. Great job on all your vids! Great riding talent as well! Thanks for sharing.
What an amazing trip. You are a really good rider and story teller. I can’t believe the things you were navigating through. Super technical trail. I’m sure everyone is cheering you on though the hard stuff. The country you get to see.
Thank you for your great video. My wife and l celebrated our 50th anniversary earlier this afternoon and letting a big dinner settle. She’s on the tv, me surfing YT. I enjoyed your video because it brought back memories of my17 single rider trips to Colorado and Utah . I too dumped the bike several times.. I thank the good Lord for letting me go home in one piece..I videoed w/a vhs camera w/a full size tape cartridge.. big and bulky. I wouldn’t trade those times for anything. I also ride a Goldwing 1800.I am also a member of the Gold Wing Roaders 27yrs. Thank for the work you put into your video..
Grateful for your work Brady. Used a bunch of your tracks for a 2400 mile ride SD WY CO NM and back. The 501 is super sweet. Going back to a 650 with a little better wind protection is appealing for the road sections. So many more places to go. Thanks again.
Thanks for sharing, what a beautiful trip. Glad you got 21 days, and thousands of miles in, before the spill. Bet there wasn't a lack of conversation on the way home with your dad after that adventure.
What a fantastic adventure. I had planned a trip from Tennessee to the top of South America on. DR650 after my first wife passed away. Unfortunately/fortunately my kids talked me out of doing the trip. I ended up finding a solid used Motorcoach and traveled the western US. Had an absolute wonderful time. However I often think about what I missed on not doing the original plan. Tha is for the video and all the afterwards effort to put it all together. Very nicely done. Ride and travel safe on your next adventure!
Well produced video. Getting inspired, taking notes and planning my foray into experiencing some of these iconic rides. So far I bought my first dualsport and plans are made to buy a T7 next.
Best ADV video by far. Showing just how great and difficult it can be. Very few get to see these areas, you have to work for it. Broke my ankle on the COBDR 2 yrs. ago, watching this made it hurt again! Hope the shoulder healed up OK.
That was a really great trip and video (more like a movie!). Many people will never get the opportunity to do what you have done here, so thanks for the ride-a-long, it was great to watch! And not once did I get cold, wet, tired, or hungry; nor did my butt get numb! Turns out my recliner is decent adventure equipment after all! :)
Great trip sir! I clicked on the video not expecting to watch the entire thing you really kept me on edge and interested the entire time you did such a good job man. This is an absolute inspirational adventure.
I Rode to Glacier National Park, to be turned away from the Highway to the sun, it appears you need reservations to ride the road, unfortunately I was at the east entrance, my hotel was on the west end, and had to do the giant loop around before midnight. Entertaining video, thanks.
That was the best 2 hour video I've watched/listened to all year. Looks like a great trip and an even better way to clear your mind. Great stuff!!! Now I've gotta plan for that one.
Thank you, I really enjoyed going on this trip with you, if only in spirit. The scenery was beautiful, some of those motels looked fantastic, and I was getting agoraphobic in Yellowstone. It was quite a fun adventure. By the way, I counted you dumping the bike nine times. Not bad for a two-wheeler. But I'm a walker myself.
This was an amazing video!!! I've been riding motorcycles all my life and I am now just getting into ADV riding, I just bought my first ADV bike! This video is so inspiring! Obviously I'll be riding much less challenging terrain but living in Iowa there is a lot of flat gravel and dirt roads to learn on.Thanks for such an awesome video!!!
Thank you for your trip on the CDR! Great job ! This gave me a rough idea of what to expect. next year i will first ride the TAT and then the CDR from north to south - greetings from the north of germany
I spent my whole day watching this video when I could. Damn it was awesome! Almost missed the last 5 minutes because my son distracted me, but I’m glad I came back to it and finished it! Amazing trip, glad you enjoyed it, and awesome to see your dad come to the rescue. Memories for sure
Inspirational man! Thanks for hanging in there and sharing it all with us...I'm just starting dual sport and watching this last night motivated me to get out and do 23 miles of gravel today. You're awesome! And Merry Christmas!
Hey Brady, we ran past each other last year on the WYBDR, I’ve watched this video more than a few times and now I’ll doing the CDT solo starting Sept 1 on my 701 and record the whole thing as well. Thanks for all the inspiration, I will be following your tracks for the most part!
another amazing production....thank you for sharing Brady. I genuinely enjoy listening to your commentaries and watching your adventures. please consider making dedicated review videos about your gear and providing affiliate links. thanks
You would feel alot better about your riding if you rode with me. I would have dropped it at least twice that much. Appreciate that you showed the drops, a lot of riders will not do that. Really enjoyed the video, thanks for posting.
I will say I didn't show all of them, but if it showcased the reality of the trail I kept it in. I also hate videos where they only show the good and not the difficulties.
Awesome trip! And congratulations on finishing this. Thank you for sharing. First time I watched a 2 hour UA-cam video. The video was perfect. Wish you well with your shoulder. Excellent that your dad was able to help, I’ve rented that same type uhaul motorcycle trailer, they built it well.
One of my relatives has ask me to join him on this ride after watching your vid i will be bypassing alot as i ride a 06 bmw GS 1200 way to big for some of the trail im 70 in good shape i will not fight that much weight great ride brother thanks for showing your misshapens which will happen if you ride offroad
Nice video, dude! Me and my buddy did Utah BDR from valley of the gods and then got on this north of Jackson and rode to the border and spent a couple days cruising around GNP area but Road to the Sun was snowed in. Was last week of June 2022. Was fun watching you run at Fleecer Ridge. We didn’t try it. I was on a 1250 GS HP that trip and it just seemed bad ha ha ha. Was kind of regretting at least not walking up and looking at it but now I’m good. 👍🏼😆 was a spectacular trip. Started the trip in Seattle and didn’t want to finish at the end either so I rode the Alcan back home to Anchorage.
@@MeerkatADV indeed it was. Got a 1290 KTM last summer and rode to Dawson city up to the Arctic coast at Tuktoyaktuk NWT and down to Skagway and back home. Decided I need to do more BDR‘s so I just bought an 890R. Going ride it down to do Idaho BDR and then park it at my buddies house in Pueblo for other trips. See you out there somewhere!
I socially distanced in July 2020, traveling by car through Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana…and South Dakota!…so glad I did it too. I enjoyed your video, seeing what was further off the highways.
Thanks for a great trip. I enjoyed every minute, I lost count of the times you had to pick the bike up and was glad you were OK. It took a lot of guts to ride some of those narrow trails on that bike, looking forward to your next video.
What a great pleasure this must have been - I watched on a sleepless night and was as sad to see it finnish as the rider was ! I am not in America sadly but did a similar thing from my home near Heathrow airport in England up through Cumbria and on through Scotland a few years back. All on paved highway - well it was on a Harley with ape-hangers - but a ride like that never leaves your thoughts. If anyone ever wants to 'de-stress' themself from modern life, I urge them to get on a bike and ride solo anywhere they can for as long as they can - it'll only be spoiled by going home !
Hours later... Nice run! that one get off in the rocky section had me wincing. I'm glad it wasnt more than a gnarly bruise. I really appreciated the low key use of the drone. Seems like every vid is 70 percent drone and its tedious. I also really appreciate the detail. A lot of that single track is a no-go for this large dude with a large bike.
We did this ride from north to south in 2021. Not quite "the hard way", but had an absolute blast! I want to do it again. BTw, Fleecer ridge is not fun going down either!
So, I paused to comment while you were in the middle of the Monarch Crest single-track and I was thinking that it looked like a pretty easy ride. Then I remembered that you're not on my YZ250 and the weight and bulk of your bike does pose some serious single-track challenges. So far so good! Can't wait to see how it all ends. Cheers!
Yeah, so bummer that you didn't get to complete the ride all the way home but what an epic adventure! I don't have an AV bike but I do have a ZX14R that I should really consider putting some travel miles on instead of just all the commuting I do on her. Maybe just a short trip from KS to CO this summer will do? Thanks for the entertainment!
Yeah the toughest part of any trip like this is managing luggage. The 690 alone is under 400lbs and can handle some stupid hard terrain. But throw all your camping gear on it and it's a whole other beast. There were areas the YZ wouldn't have been a good idea just for the lack of power, but something like a 450L would have been ideal.
This is the second time I watched this whole episode again! I enjoyed it again! I love it. I rode from Kansas to Arizona on a 3 day ride and I loved it! I have a Indian Scout and loved my ride.
Havent watched this video yet. Looking forward to it. As i am in the beginning stages of planning it solo next summer. 2024. Good to know im not alone in this endevor. As i have ridden the Idaho BDR twice solo. Looking for longer remote rides..this one has been on my list for a few yrs now. Will add my thoughts after watching.
If i ever thought about a big ADV dual sport your video cured me. Can't help but think A CRF 300L all day and your ride would have been so much easier and enjoyable. Sure you give up so carry capacity and road comfort but i think its a better tool for the trip. Feel for you every time you fell and everybody will fall at times.
Dude, thank you so much for making this. Actually thinking about getting a dualsport and getting some exploring in here in the next few years. And also the entertainment while I boringly deal with covid is a plus lol
I must say this was awesome content. Gave up riding in 2018 after 1 to many close calls here in California. Never got to do my military retirement solo trip.. Much props for fulfilling a to do trip.
New sub here, what got me on this video the most was when you said hello to the Antelope's hahahah, I love to see the wildlife when I am riding, and it is one of the main reasons I ride. I ride alot of backroads on purpose. You did a great job on this video. Thanks for taking the time to share and keep up the fun videos. Dale
From Mexico to Canada what a great ride. I felt every fall and pick up you did, man that fall you had, I can almost see that black and blue marks on your leg, went thru a similar drop myself a few years back. One hell of a ride, thanks man.
Thanks for posting this great adventure. Very brave to go solo but the solitude at times would have been magnificent. Surprised at how cold it was at times for August. KTM handled it all well but tall gearing did not help at times. Thanks again all good luck with your plans for a change of career.

Great job! I enjoyed watching the whole trail. Can't wait to get out and ride. Hope that your shoulder healed ok
Finally finished the entire video, All I can say is Wow!, Thank you and Congrats on a great ride!
BTW how's the shoulder?
Inspirational man! Thanks for hanging in there and sharing it all with us...I'm just starting dual sport and watching this last night motivated me to get out and do 23 miles of gravel today. You're awesome! And Merry Christmas!
Hey Brady, we ran past each other last year on the WYBDR, I’ve watched this video more than a few times and now I’ll doing the CDT solo starting Sept 1 on my 701 and record the whole thing as well. Thanks for all the inspiration, I will be following your tracks for the most part!
This is the longest UA-cam video I ever watched and I loved it. Thanks. Now I’m planning on doing it myself
another amazing production....thank you for sharing Brady. I genuinely enjoy listening to your commentaries and watching your adventures. please consider making dedicated review videos about your gear and providing affiliate links. thanks
The gear review market is a bit saturated. I have links to my current gear and videos on that on my channel, I just don't focus on reviews.
Excellent video showing your journey. I'm sure there was more that wasn't uploaded. Looking forward to seeing more in the future.
Very well done Brady. You are definitely giving me the itch to get another adventure bike. Great video.
Thanks , now I'm going to be late for work tomorrow after straying up late to watch the whole trip.
Great Job!! Thanks for sharing
I have seen them all and this was one of the very best. Thanks and congratulations.
I'm 5 minutes into this video and all I'm thinking is about how well prepared and awesome your setup is on the bike.
Update: I finished watching your entire video. Wow... what an epic adventure 😎
I'll buy you a beer when I'm in Colorado next time.
Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to do this and share it with us! I loved it!
Nice ride and great video. Was fun to watch. Thx.
Great adventure! Great filming/editing. Well done. Thanks!
Yeah Fleecer is soilidly hike-a-bike territory. It sounds like a fun trip!
@@MeerkatADV and this trip that you did. That southern end looks fun! Except for sand. Sand is never fun.
@@MeerkatADV one last thing - too bad about your shoulder, but at least it didn’t happen while you were having fun!
Great video from start to the end. Congrats.
Absolutely awesome video, cheers🍻 for South Texas 🤠
I socially distanced in July 2020, traveling by car through Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana…and South Dakota!…so glad I did it too. I enjoyed your video, seeing what was further off the highways.
Ive watched this 3 times. Great video. I live in the Springs
Thanks for the great adventure! I’m laying around with a broken ankle… my KTM 1090 is in the shed waiting on spring!
Really enjoyed your video.
Thanks for a great trip. I enjoyed every minute, I lost count of the times you had to pick the bike up and was glad you were OK. It took a lot of guts to ride some of those narrow trails on that bike, looking forward to your next video.
Great video. I enjoyed the length & details. Thanks!
I’m watching this in Scotland. Great trip . Armchair riding at its best. Thanks for all your hard work.
We did this ride from north to south in 2021. Not quite "the hard way", but had an absolute blast! I want to do it again. BTw, Fleecer ridge is not fun going down either!
I can imagine. It's difficult to describe to people just how loose the rocks are.
Wow! I really enjoyed watching that! You have my respect for doing that on your own. Ride Sade!
Great video, props for showing the bad along with the good.
Awesome movie. I live in montana. It was very awesome to see your view of montana on the bike on the trail. Thanks again. Keep up the amazing work.
This is the second time I watched this whole episode again! I enjoyed it again! I love it. I rode from Kansas to Arizona on a 3 day ride and I loved it! I have a Indian Scout and loved my ride.
Incredible trip. Just bought my first dual sport. Looking forward to getting out there!
One of the best moto travel videos I’ve seen. Earned a sub. Thanks for sharing!
The CRF's weight is approximately the same as the KTM 690, but with less than half the power and a much worse suspension for off road.
@@zappel52 a 300L would be approximately 100lbs lighter than the 690 and probably a great bike for this route.
@@MeerkatADV Honda (with Fuel, Oil and Coolant)Crf300l 320lb,Rally 340lb, KTM 690 my2022 320lb w/o fluids, maybe 35-40lb for fluids. Anyway, I really enjoyed this video, interesting Route!
great job on this journey and documenting it! watched the whole video and like you, hated to see it come to an end
What an EPIC trip! Thanks for the post and all the hard work. Those falls -I can really appreciate as a cyclist and motorcyclist!
Dude, thank you so much for making this. Actually thinking about getting a dualsport and getting some exploring in here in the next few years. And also the entertainment while I boringly deal with covid is a plus lol
Fantastic video. Doing the ride from Alberta to Mexico this July.
I must say this was awesome content. Gave up riding in 2018 after 1 to many close calls here in California. Never got to do my military retirement solo trip.. Much props for fulfilling a to do trip.
There ain't words I could say .that could tell how wonderful u made my dreams come true riding along with u . Dreamed of that ride. That's was great
New sub here, what got me on this video the most was when you said hello to the Antelope's hahahah, I love to see the wildlife when I am riding, and it is one of the main reasons I ride.
You talk and sing to yourself even more than me while riding :)
That’s one heck of a ride, more than I’d want to do in some of the sections. An enjoyable watch and a good job of videoing.
Thanks for posting this great adventure. Very brave to go solo but the solitude at times would have been magnificent. Surprised at how cold it was at times for August. KTM handled it all well but tall gearing did not help at times. Thanks again all good luck with your plans for a change of career.
