They do the moose test with every car they test. The only cars wich have had this dangerous behaviour is this and the first generation mercedes a class
The Range Rover can probably do much worse without such issues, they have great engineering behind them. Sure they aren’t as reliable but they do the job well. It’s like the bentayga and most German SUV’s they drive very well, more likes cars so there is very little compromise
Jeep's suspension seems too soft and it starts wobbling during sharp turns. The tilt is too much and it cases the car to almost flip over and/or jump after the exit. The suspension needs to be a bit stiffer and i think the wheels need to have a small angle under which the touch the ground.
Yeah. its like they choose the suspension for its off road capabilities rather than what most Cherokee's are used for. On road driving. Its got way more give then is needed to the point that its dangerous. Im not to sure of its anti roll safety equipment but it seems to be rather lacking, it looks more setup to 'flex' and 'crawl' offroad like its brothers the wrangler etc.
MrSterling314 Actually the suspension is adjustable, just turn the dial and lower it and problem is solved. It is not the trucks fault if you don't use the suspension setting properly. It was lowered for the 2014 test and no problems.
MrSterling314 Eactly - don't compare an off road capable vehicle like the Grand Cherokee to a Volvo wagon that can't go anywhere off road and then say Jeep is bad. Try this test with a loaded Landrover Discover, or a Mercedes G500 and see if THEY roll over as much as the jeep. ua-cam.com/video/ltH7vhFbZwA/v-deo.html
@@chopvtec Are you fucking joking? Their own engineers were on site and could not do any better. XD. And the GC unlike all of it's competitors is 13 YEARS OLD AT THIS POINT. They have been selling the same bullshit at new prices for the last 13 years. Guess your the Guinness that paid new money for a 13 year old SUV lol.
I noticed the same thing, also the Jeep started farther to the right of the cones compared to the other vehicles. Resulting in a sharper left turn. I played it back at super slow motion and the Jeep did the first maneuver at 1.43s, while the other vehicles did the same distance at 1.60s. That means that the Jeep was traveling faster. This is total BS.
@@edwizard62 The test is supposed to be repeated at increasing speed until failure. Cars are rated by the failure speed and severity of failure. Reference clips of other cars will thus be at other speeds.

GonzotheGonz1 Jeep is bad off road??? LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Please...just STHAP There's not a SINGLE Euro car that can out perform the Jeep off road...just STHAP
I have now read a few comments about this test not being fair to Jeep, as the Touareg and Volvo appear to be driven less aggressively. The goal of this test is to make it through the course at a certain speed, and very obviously the Jeep can't do it. The other cars appear to be driven less aggressively because they handle the quick turns better. Cars that handle this test poorly look more aggressively driven. The same is somewhat true for autocross and track stuff as well.
The current Jeep Grand Cherokee today is one of the biggest bandaid jobs, the platform was developed in 2009, not on sale until 2011, more than 10 years old and they just keep duct taping on new plastic trim that peels off later and calling it NEW.
The test performed on the Jeep wasn’t fair. Especially against the other vehicles used in the comparison. Given the physics of the Jeep, it handled itself well enough.☝🏽🔥
I have a Grand Cherokee and it handles very well under extreme conditions. Also keep in mind this is a vehicle capable of going off road. The Tiguan and Volvo you compare it to are not as capable off road. There is a trade off. The more capable off road means it may not handle as well as a car under similar extreme conditions on a freeway. Plate C
The thing is it’s illegal to swerve like that , because you’d be swerving into another lane and could have a head on so I think the moose test it mute .
Jeep has a habit of underrating the springs for vehicle mass to create a vehicle that has a softer ride during initial test drives. If the springs are corrected for vehicle mass (as they should have been from the factory) the vehicle will have a substantially better performance in the test. If you want to prove the point to them, get corrected spring ratio springs from old man emu / arb.
In Pennsylvania the second thing a new driver learns, after how to start the car, is that you do not swerve to miss an animal. Apply the brakes, and stay in your lane. Do otherwise and you be getting up close and personal with a tree or a semi.
And @ 100km/62mph it might roll over. Plus the majority of people who buy these in America, 1. Don't off road it 2. Don't have the driver skill to handle it.
They buy big cars to have more chance to survive an accident...…….. But the big car and their lack of skills and knowledge make em at high risk of accident !!! But at the end of the day they might survive the accident , but they kill the occupants of the smaller car they've hit !
@@egSmith-sp9gl Most wrecks arent super high speeds. So carrying around all that weight to be "safer" in a wreck that probably won't happen is a waste of money. Its better to drive a sedan where the crash is good enough and the car has enough agility to menuever. plus sedans look alot better.
It sucks when car manufacturers makes cars that aggrevate slip ups and bad driving. Sure no car can be safe from bad judgement from the driver. This is just like that infamous Mercedes A. It needed all the fancy anti skid/rollover ++ sytemst just to keep a bad design on the road, not to make a sound design better.

Well, after having seen this video, we can say one thing: The Jeep Grand Cherokee is not a race car, able to take two tight consecutive turns on a circuit. OK fair enough... The Jeep Grand Cherokee is not a Formula 1 or a sport 4x4 like the Porsche Macan or the VW Touareg but it can do much more than these 4x4 on the mud, the snow, the rock because it is a real 4x4. But yeah, not the good car to drive like a crazy. Moreover, if you want to drive sporty, you should select the sport mode and maybe the GC would not overturn. For the tire which burst, it is perfectly normal because the vast majority of the weight was on this tire and the car was driven on the cone; this make the things worst for the tire which burst… no relation with the car….
Biased? Fucking fanboys. The Volvo and the VW weren't driven 'smoother around the corners' they just took the turns better. Any real driver who knows two shits about cars could see that, bloody fanboys crying over spoiled milk. Just accept the fact that Americans made another shitty car. And don't give me shit about how it was made for Off roading, the Volvo and the VW were made for that too yet you can drive them safely as a daily. That Jeep has some serious suspension issues and weight distribution issues, no amount of computer tweaking can fix that, Jeep needs to up their game period.
Well we can see that you are not a real driver, who knows 2 shits about anything. You can clearly see in the video that the vehicles were nowhere near driven the same. the suspension is all European, in fact jeep is European owned as well, this test was done incorrectly and if you watched the 2014 moose test before posting your troll comments you would have seen if the jeep is driven like the others it has a perfect result like the others as well.
dennis s You're wrong, Tekninkens Värld does all these kind of tests with alot of different cars. What you think you see is that its differently driven, but its not. The JEEP is heavier and has softer suspension (tuned by a fat american probably) And it also has the weight higher over the chassis than both the VW & Volvo.
Pierre Norlen It's not that people think it is driven different, it is in fact driven different. You can see the steering input and cone placement is very much different for all 3. Also the only reason the weight is higher over the chassis is because the suspension is set high. If the driver would use the controls to lower the suspension and steer wider it would pass fine, like we see in the newest test.
AutomotivEivind I'm fully aware the suspension was in "auto" and that is the problem. I will explain how jeep's suspension works for those who do not know. When in "auto" the jeep has a self level function and as we know the jeep in the test was carrying 5 people and sandbags as cargo. When you fully load the jeep the suspension rises to compensate and will reach near 11in of ground clearance. This height is not safe for quick turns, it is more for towing a boat or if you load it full of something heavy. As the owner I'm sure when carrying an extra load and your sitting high or towing a boat you are not going to jerk the wheel like the video. The 2011-2013 owner's manual states to use "sport" mode for better handling. "sport" mode lowers the truck to a safer height if your going to make quick moves and takes the bounce out of the suspension, so basically what I'm saying, it is better to use sport than auto in this case. You get the feel for it after using it for a short time. The 2014 has no sport mode to select, at cruising speed it automatically lowers which is why that truck rides lower in the new test and behaves different.
You’re telling me that was multiple jeeps getting their tires blown? I thought I was watching the same one over and over lol

I tried this with my 15 jeep GC limited 3.6 with fortera tires at 36psi. 1 passenger. My results were definitely better. No blown tires but i did experience wheel/tire lift during the apex of the right turn. not off the ground but slight loss of traction. Test was done in Auto terrain mode. 30 35 40mph. Not sure if jeep fixed the issue. But i was able to complete the moose test successfully.
The only comment that brought me some relief actually lol. I am considering buying a GC but this video is raising a few eyebrows

Why the fuck is that guy not wearing a helmet??!?!
Mr. Some Guy Not just balls... Balls of titanium.
The car has a very strong roof and side airbags that deploy when a roll over is imminent. There's really no need for a helmet.
+Kushimaru
Testing a car with the risk of rolling over and just wearing a ridiculous bike helmet? Journalists should pay attention to this if they cannot prove that their heads are limited edition: roll-over proof. Good example for families that will not buy Jeep after watching this video.

Oh my bad man we don't have moose here.. I'd still take a blown tire over flipping any day. Watch out for those moose!
don't have a moose? you may have other dangers and i wish that nothing happens to put you in that situation.
This car is not supposed to be driven on road, but off road, when such things don't happen
Makes me think of the Ford Explorers from the 1990’s that loved to roll over.
Yeah all caused from moron drivers thinking they were driving sports cars when their Firestone tires blew up LOL.
That driver is awesome!! He said it's lousy! I freaking love that guy!
Is there a test to see how a Land Rover performs this test?
+Gaming with Mikey! I'm sure it fails loudly too, but with a synthetic "I'm sorry"/"Beg your pardon" voice coming out from the dashboard.
My mom won a Jeep on the Price is Right. We gave it back.
Would they give you something different?
That never happened bro.

yea. because you're poor as fuck and couldn't afford the tax
What cheap-o tires were those? My 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland handles better than this mess.
seems to me that the jeep was entering the turn faster than the volvo and the touareg
Try this test with a loaded Landrover Discover, or a Mercedes G500 and see if THEY roll over as much as the jeep. ua-cam.com/video/ltH7vhFbZwA/v-deo.html
the guy's way of driving when he turns the steering wheel of the jeep is very aggressive, unlike when he tested it with other vehicles
What the fuck do you expect? The entire back end of the Volvo & VW did not lift off the ground and step out.
@@tv321123 the Jeep’s suspension was completely raised
@@chopvtec Are you fucking joking? Their own engineers were on site and could not do any better. XD. Nice argument man, saying you know more than the engineers of the vehicle your trying to defend XD. Guess what? Jeeps a piles of shit, and this is just another example of that.
Reference clips of other cars will thus be at other speeds.
bullshit, the jeep is clearly driven harder and is overloaded, typical swedish bullshit promoting their stuff as "better". I dont hate volvo, I think they're awesome, but theres no way those vehicles are loaded the same, especially having a tire blow out??

Land Rover Defender? The on-road handling of them is horrible though.
Looks like the driver is over correcting and jerking the wheel. I have a jgc, I drive it like a springer. When it sets, I floor it like a dirt racer.
I have now read a few comments about this test not being fair to Jeep, as
the Touareg and Volvo appear to be driven less aggressively. The goal
of this test is to make it through the course at a certain speed, and
very obviously the Jeep can't do it. The other cars appear to be driven less aggressively because they handle the quick turns better. Cars that handle this test poorly look more aggressively driven. The same is somewhat true for autocross and track stuff as well.
No the car is just bad
How many times u said “aggressively”
Their response? Theyre still making that generation Grand Cherokee 8 years later
Yeep? More like Yeet!
The current Jeep Grand Cherokee today is one of the biggest bandaid jobs, the platform was developed in 2009, not on sale until 2011, more than 10 years old and they just keep duct taping on new plastic trim that peels off later and calling it NEW.
My Srt8 Jeep stays flat as a pancake even during a turn like this.

MikeCharlieAlpha they're dope I have a 2012. This test is absurd
Plate C
Am still getting that trackhawk regardless
The thing is it’s illegal to swerve like that , because you’d be swerving into another lane and could have a head on so I think the moose test it mute .
clever car blows the front tyre, before it tips over.good safety feature.
I didn't flip over, how is that a fail?
It blew tires, hit cones, and came off the ground, which are fails.
Jeep has a habit of underrating the springs for vehicle mass to create a vehicle that has a softer ride during initial test drives. If the springs are corrected for vehicle mass (as they should have been from the factory) the vehicle will have a substantially better performance in the test. If you want to prove the point to them, get corrected spring ratio springs from old man emu / arb.
this is bullshit, look how the guy drove the other cars, in the jeep he was faster and wilder
@Sergio López my thoughts exactly, bro!
They timed that Jeep so much harder than the others
In Pennsylvania the second thing a new driver learns, after how to start the car, is that you do not swerve to miss an animal. Apply the brakes, and stay in your lane. Do otherwise and you be getting up close and personal with a tree or a semi.
Give that Jeep to me "I'll show you how to drive it without Blown tyres. "
Don't drive it at all?
And @ 100km/62mph it might roll over.
Plus the majority of people who buy these in America,
1. Don't off road it

How many stories begin with "my jeeps suspension failed me" I rest my case.
You can clearly see in the video that the vehicles were nowhere near driven the same. the suspension is all European, in fact jeep is European owned as well, this test was done incorrectly and if you watched the 2014 moose test before posting your troll comments you would have seen if the jeep is driven like the others it has a perfect result like the others as well.
dennis s
You're wrong, Tekninkens Värld does all these kind of tests with alot of different cars.
If the driver would use the controls to lower the suspension and steer wider it would pass fine, like we see in the newest test.
blair r Video states suspension is in auto mode.
