I used to feel uncomfortable when a supervisor would try to build rapport with me. It seemed they were doing it out of obligation, and it was contrived. It's also beneficial to keep a professional distance to avoid conflicts of interest.
Thank you for all the great work you do. Great video with lots of specific and actionable suggestions/ideas. Question is. how do you build or maintain rapport now that we are working online or remote? Any suggestions/ideas will be appreciated.
I love your videos!! I've learned so much. However, I've run into too many people who must receive the same advice. They immediately throw the conversation my way, and I throw it back and they throw it back instantly. It is so hard to get to know them because they are trying to take the higher road to let me talk about myself incessantly . They are very polished and self aware. And so when you mention that people love to talk about themselves, I disagree a little. I WANT to hear about the other person! So I find this piece of advice either a little overused or just it needs to come with a caviat. It makes us all feel like narcissists in little ways. I feel we should be brave and share and then ask others to share. Be vulnerable, realize that others are curious about you. Not just narcissistic about themselves. Hopefully that makes sense 😂
Thank you for these tips, they're very specific and actionable! Do you have additional recommendations for building rapport virtually, now that working from home is the norm for some companies?
Thank you for sharing these tips! I'm excited to meet and build rapport with my new teammates.👍
