Completely DESTROYED and beyond salvage! REALLY?

Restoring and refurbishing the chest of drawers! This time I will restore a completely destroyed chest of drawers. The top plate and the side parts, rear wall and floor were broken. They all had to be planed and re-glued. The drawers were repaired and got new wood because they were badly ground in. The veneer had to be replaced and large cracks were repaired.

This was a real restoration of a piece of furniture that was almost completely destroyed by insensitive owners and was riddled with borers, on top. The steps you followed were simple and efficient and restored the good looks and usefulness to this inexpensive dresser. The final appearance and usability of the dresser seem a miracle. Thanks for your skill and sympathy in this restoration, a model to follow for many of us that enjoy handling wood and sharp tools.

Beautiful restore job ! Your attention of the most minute details is amazing ! There's a number of good construction design ideas for wood movement, where as in other parts ...questionable. I wouldn't leave any piece unsealed. It's not good for the long term health of any wood. A simple tung oil cocktail and a finale wax buff would do wonders for beautiful piece such as this.

Thanks. Yes, that's right. But I have already left a few parts untouched. They still look good years later and are not damaged. Since my workshop is very small, each dark part presses even more. That's why I leave it untreated. So that it stays light for a long time. Regards

Ja, da wurde sehr viel Arbeit in ein Möbelstück invertiert, welches vermutlich in 9 von 10 Fällen beim Sperrmüll gelandet wäre. Ich glaube, ich hatte mich ebenfalls nicht mehr an eine Restaurierung gemacht. Aber schlussendlich zählt der Spaß an der Sache und das Ergebnis kann sich durchaus sehen lassen. Ich wünsche noch lange Freude an dem nun wieder so schönen Stück 😃👍
