John Squire is an incredible guitar player, I don't think it's too outlandish to call him one of the best.. To hear him at it's best, I would recommend Tears, from the band's second and final studio album. It's absolutely beautiful
How on Earth have i missed this one! Wow, The Stone Roses are integral part of my youth, my soul mate introduced me to their music when we first met, he was trying to get a band going and The Roses were his influence, i have fond memories sat in rehearsal rooms for many many hrs just listening to him (and his band mates) jam out to the Roses (he played bass) this track fills me with so many happy memories. 1st time listening to them since i lost him. 💚 I would love to see you react to, The Stone Roses, I Am The Resurrection 😊
Wow... Didnt expect this one. The Roses are my favorite British band of all time! Saw them on their last reunion tour. My fave song from them is "I am the Resurrection".
The Roses rock! They are a great band, probably better for only doing a few albums. They were very much of the time. For me this was the start of the new wave of British bands playing instruments and producing great tunes. I know it’s probably not everyone’s cup o tea but I knew that Bryan would single out Reni on drums. He does appreciate a good drummer. 😊
Nice one Bryan. Thanks for that one. It’s an anthem from my youth. So a little bit about the band and song. The Stone Roses are a Manchester band who’s members are Ian Brown, the singer, John Squires is lead guitar, Mani is on bass and the legendary Reni is on drums. The song was written around ‘88 and Manchester was a pretty run down city. The Tories had been in lower and many inner cities were suffering decline. The song can be interpreted many ways but for me it’s about a girl who’s sick of the situation she’s in and moves away from the city running away from the filthy scummy hole, travelling around Britain seeing the beauty of it all, despite the influence of the US and the UK being a puppet of them. It’s about determination to carry on regardless in the face of adversity. (They also had a bit of a thing for playing tracks in reverse and changing the lyrics that are used, so this song Waterfall has been reversed and is a track called Don’t Stop.) It’s a pretty simple tune but Squires looping guitar riff is like a canon, almost a nod to Pachelbel. Reni is an excellent drummer and loves what he does. He’s kinda known for his “on the two” as P would say, style. They were part of the Madchester scene of the time where lots of highly influential English music came from, this being kinda indie, but also the acid house scene was blowing up there too. It was a truly diverse, multicultural musical experience at that time. All from that era and a leading up to include Happy Mondays, 808 State, James, The Charlatans, Chemical Brothers, New Order, Simply Red, M People. These definitely maybe 😉 had an influence on Oasis later on.
I remember when MTV was fairly new in the UK, it used to have these little 30 second segments occasionally with Reni doing little pieces to camera and playing different drum bits.
As a Roses super fan, very good and considered reaction! I’m inferring that you kinda guessed this, but this wasn’t the band in its hey day. They reunited in 2012 and broke up again in 2017. Their prime was from 1989-1994. Their debut is often considered one of the greatest British albums of all time. Faultless album. This track is on it. Basically neo-psychedelia but with some acid house elements. As for the drummer, well. I’m not surprised he sucked you in. Probably the most underrated drummer out there. His name is Reni. Definitely up there with the likes of Moon and Bonham. And for the guitarist, he’s not shown you what he can do! On the aforementioned debut, he does exactly what you said. Doesn’t do too much, but adds his skill when it’s needed, culminating beautifully on the final track “I Am The Resurrection” where there is a 4 and a half minute instrumental outro. But his personal magnum opus is the second album. He just rips it up on every track. On that album, he’s like if Page and Hendrix had a love child. My God is he good. His name is John Squire btw. My first video I’ve seen on your channel, but I may have to sub as I’m liking the format a lot! Hope you get round to The Roses again soon.✌️
Great to see a new viewer and when they have great musical taste, that’s even better! I’m assuming by your name that you are a Manchestoh lad? I couldn’t agree more with you more, their first album is an absolute masterclass and is timeless, just as The Verve’s Urban Hymns is. I’m not sure if Bryan will be reacting to more Roses, but sure hope he does. John Squires is fantastic and we need to show him some more. Really, I reckon the full first album is a must listen to in its entirety, in the same way that Floyd ablums are. Mani is well into the scooter scene and frequents a shop in Manchester quite a lot. A good friend of mine met him there and got a photo with his son, which Mani was happy to do. Top geezer.
I agree. He's a very underrated drummer. If you wanna see him at his peak checkout some of the stuff live from Blackpool. Not Ian Brown's finest moment, but you defo get a feel for how good Reni and Squire are. There's also some good vids of people doing covers of Reni's drums. Some are amazing
A possible new avenue to wander along musically are British bands such as The Verve-their song Bittersweet Symphony is also a favourite of mine- The Cure, Fine Young Cannibals, Echo and the Bunnymen particularly Killing Moon to name a few. Love your reactions to Prince he is my favourite musican of all time 💜💜💜
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar My 9th sub! Lol... Its really just a placeholder for some videos I wanted to share or upload to another website. Maybe one day I will make it a reaction channel, don't know what I will react to though 🤔
Love, love the stone roses such an influential band for many British bands. One of my favourites is I wanna be adored. Try and find the video called made of stone all about the brief come back. Fabulous 👌
Hey! I love your UA-cam name, sorry I'm just responding now, I can't keep up with the UA-cam comments anymore it has gotten so busy. Yes this band was great, and I kind of do now remember them from back in the day. I want to hear more of them for sure!
From Manchester the first proper electric guitar band since The Sex Pistols who they were influenced by. Top Of The pops when the 70s guitar bands were finished it was Human League Depeche Mode Flock of seagulls and similar dross that hogged the charts for 10 years until 1989 when proper guitar bands were back and it started off with the Stone Roses. What relief it was.👍
Primal scream another band I love ❤ could check out Rocks, Movin on up or Come together. Their classic album Screamadelica had a recent re- release. Fantastic and different from the music you have been listening to lately. Apologies if you already know them.

If Kerry wants Stone Roses, Kerry will get Stone Roses :)
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar Thanks Bryan, if you do do I am the Resurrection best its just the Audio, 😀
I imagine the comments have already pointed out that this was the first time they had been in the room together for twenty years. That is amazing.
I’ve never really gotten into the Stone Roses but I think I may need to change that. These guys are really freakin good 😂
I don't know you're age,but you won't be disappointed! 🏴
I can't believe that was almost 10 years ago. It feels like yesterday when I watched this exited after over 20 years from the original

I think I have heard of them in the past....
@@endlessrage4062 another lesser known British band I dig was The Music. The early 2000s answer to the Stone Roses, imho.

That first album is probably the greatest debut album of any band in history!
The version of Don't Stop from this session is amazing too.
I remember when MTV was fairly new in the UK, it used to have these little 30 second segments occasionally with Reni doing little pieces to camera and playing different drum bits.
I'll definitely be doing more reactions to them in the new year!
Reni is one of the greatest drummers of all time. Fact.
Thank you. Reni is one of my fave drummers (others being Billy Cobham, Sheila Escovedo, Bernard Purdie).
Check out the live version of Fools Gold from the same Made of Stone documentary and you’ll see the more virtuosic side of John Squire
As a Roses super fan, very good and considered reaction!

Finally… Someone picks up on the drummer!!! Nice one dude, Reni is indeed a very talented drummer 👍🏻
Totally amazing!

I also always thought Reni as a good singer too, he carried Ian's voice on a lot of tracks (imo)
@@k.bevan319 agreed, he’s has much better tone. The backing vocals really lift some of the songs👍🏻
But John Squire is fantastic on the guitar too… ‘Tears’ is a real showcase of this
got to do tear and witness the genius of John Squire
Hmmmmm interesting! :)

If he suggested this band, this song, and this recording in particular.... he's straight up Awesome in my book. This album is special to me.
Random thought, the guitar tone being that tiny bit harsh is kinda a signature of the Roses sound.
Yes it was good and fit their sound
'The guitar player is opening up a little bit' haha. If only you knew, if only you knew haha
Hopefully I will one day, I want to check out more of their stuff... :)
'tis a good tune!

Reni a brilliant drummer. I think there has been a book released recently titled reni icon

Too much auto-tune.
