The man introducing them is "Mr Manchester" Tony Wilson he discovered and signed Joy Division and The Happy Mondays, he owned Factory Records one of the most famous clubs in Manchester The Haçienda and Madchester was born. There is a good biopic film about him called 24 Hour Party People where Steven Coogan (Alan Partridge) plays him.
Well played Tanya 👍 Wilson is a legend
Check-Out --
Joe Duddell and Mike Garry ~ St. Anthony: An Ode To Anthony H Wilson
.
He also did more to attempt to sabotage the roses than anyone else!
@@lewisb85
Tony Wilson did admit to how he was initially wrong about Stone Roses...
And, Tony did do alot for Manchester Music !
.
@@trevordoolan5011 It was a personal vendetta not because of the roses but because of the people they worked with, the first label they signed to thin line was owned by the original label manager for factory as well as former factory in house producer martin hannett. He wanted to stick it to the people who used to work with him so took it out on the roses, its all in original stone roses, smiths, and later drummer for the fall Simon Wolstencroft's book.
Wait until they discover Bez from The Happy Mondays.
The ultimate "but what does he *DO?* vibe guy.
I’m amazed you guys haven’t really noticed the drummer yet.. Reni is a phenomenon and the true talent in the band! I’m not knocking John, Manny or Ian… But Reni is the one!
Yep
this is the correct answer.
Reni is one of the greatest drummers, right up there.
Stone Roses "I wanna be adored" best musical intro to any song I've ever heard
The stone roses made it all happen on the indie scene, one band one love ❤
Short lived but very influential band - the extended version of their song "Fool's Gold" is one of the biggest grooves of the early 90s.
Late 80s
@@Euadam It was released in November 1989 - so yes, it was a big groove in the last month and a half of the late 80s, but it really became a massive rave song a few months after it was released.
It's all about Reni on the drums on this one.
Indie dance house scene late eighties start, bands like Happy Mondays The Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets, James, 808 State, it is a massive rabbit hole chaps roots go everywhere.Job description for that chap, Bez from the Happy Mondays bloke in grey.
He was around before I think. Cressa
That aint Bez
The guy in the grey is Cressa the unofficial fifth member, he controlled John Squires FX pedals as they started to get to complicated for a man with only two feet. And he could dance.
The Stone Roses evolved from a post-punk sound into an indie/psychedelic/pop vibe which took in elements of rave culture. Their first album is a classic. Ian Brown was always the weak link but his swagger and charisma compensated for his lack of vocal ability.
Liam Gallagher copied Brown's moves and style of dress, so without him we don't have Oasis as we know them.
Ian Brown is like Lou Reed. Struggles to stay in tune, but the Roses would not have worked without him. This band is as tight musically as any band ever was.
Their debut is one of the most influential albums Britain has produced! Definitely worth an entire reaction to it
Ah the song that set me on the path of indie and rock music when I was 16. It was played on the jukebox of a place where I played football and was quickly followed by Dragging me Down by the Inspiral Carpets. I went straight to Our Price and bought them on CD single.
Waterfall is still my favourite Roses song.
Stone Rose, Inspiral Carpets, Charlatans, The Farm , Slowdive, Lush, Echobelly, Garbage, Spirea X. Boo Radleys, Flowered Up, Primal Scream etc etc. Those were the days Paul. We were lucky to be around when thses bands came along.
The guy in the grey is Cressa - a friend of the band (and The Happy Mondays) who was one of the first people involved in the introduction of ecstasy to the Manchester scene in the late 80's - hence the funky dancing! 😄
Stone Roses - Fools Gold.
Enough said.
You like the roses you should try out blur's "there's no other way". it's the transition from baggy to britpop. The funny thing about that program is that the host tony wilson is the person who did more to disrupt the early career of the stone roses than any other person because he was managing and putting out the records of the happy mondays, blacklisting them from playing venues etc see the doc blood on the turntable.
Man! Love that you guys get it! This clip is one of my all-time favourite things ever 😁😁😁
Whenever I watch this, I can’t take my eyes off reni, unbelievable drummer, it’s just effortless
A band that will never be forgotten
You have to do some Kinky Afro by Happy Mondays.
Bez has the moves.
One of my all time favourites. Stone Roses headlined Coachella Festival years ago.
About 25 yrs ago I walked into a bar and this was playing on the duke box.
I asked a guy who it was and he said “The Stone Roses.”
I’ve practically listened to them everyday since.🍋
Duke box? Lol
Other Side of Midnight is named because it was broadcast after midnight which was considered very late in England
in 1989.
I was out of work at the time and saw this the first time it was shown.
Look out for Performance by Happy Mondays from the same programme.
The presenter at the start is Tony Wilson who is so interesting a film called 24 Hour Party People was made about him
and the Manchester music scene.
Anthony Wilson Mr Manchester, they named a street after him. He deserved a statue outside gmex facing the Hacienda imo considering his promotion of the city and its music.
The guy introducing it was Tony Wilson. He was behind Factory Records who produced, Joy Division ,New Order, Happy Mondays, O.M.D, plus many many more.
Have you guy's done any Happy Mondays yet? Cant wait to see what you make of Bez !
The way Reni abuses that drum kit it just incredible, what he does to that cymbal is just pure JEDI. Grey shirt guy is Ian Brown's mate CRESSA!
Reni is an absolute genius
@@ZakMason10 If Reni wasn't in the band, you'd have to get in some science lab and somehow create him!
Saw John squire on Saturday night playing champagne supernova like he did in 96 what a gig.
What an epic ending to such an epic gig 🔥 🔥
Sitting nxt ti my koi pond watchin this vid in the uk
Been waiting too long for you guys to do another Stone roses video 🙌🏽
Two of my good mates did the initial recording of their album, 'Second Coming'
RIP Mark Tollerton
Vastly underrated that album
Yeah, Ian Brown only learned to sing in about 2010! Amazing band. They made the 90's sounds with unique stuff like this. Also RIP Tony Wilson. Music God!!
I like how you've used Jingle Jangle as the title. Was this by accident? Whenever I hear Jingle Jangle I think of the song Free My Way by Ian Brown. Great reaction guys. Tony Wilson is a Manchester legend. Check out the film 24 Hour Party People
A lot of people will sadly also connect jingle jangle with jimmy saville
@@unwrittenwizard910 ha was just about to say the same thing.
@@unwrittenwizard910 😆😆😆 ... Now then, now then, boys and girls....
a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you…
This takes me back.
I remember watching that episode of the other side of midnight.
Oh and the film 24 Hour Party People is epic!
The Roses just take me back in time. Such a seminal moment
Love you to see a review of some black grape stuff (happy Mondays vibe with Shaun Ryder also) reverend black grape is a fun song !
Great reaction as always guys. You still need to do “Made Of Stone”! My favourite from that debut album. Also, “Breaking Into Heaven” is a mega track from the second album. One of the greatest guitar solos from John Squire in that one.
The guy in grey is called Cressa. He didn’t do much apart from dance, and I don’t think he was an official member. On the other hand, the band Happy Mondays (who you have reacted to, and we’re The Roses’ Madchester peers) had an even more crazy dancer guy, called Bez. He was actually an official member, and pretty much summed up Happy Mondays. You should do more Mondays, their tracks “Loose Fit” and “Mad Cyril” and “24 Hour Party People” are great, and would make a great reaction!
He wasn't an official member he was ian and johns mate!
Made of stone is their best
To get a real understanding of what they were all about you HAVE to watch the 16 min interview with John Squire and Ian Brown. Its a must watch!!!! Also check out Mersey Paradise , Ten Story love song , Tears and Elephant stone. You will be blown away!!!
No, really guys.
Happy Mondays. Bez will quickly become your new favorite thing after Karl Pilkington.
Great version of "Waterfall"...!
.
The dude in grey is their version of Bez from the Happy Mondays.
Love this performance
Hey if you wanna see a proper backing dancer check Bez out from another Manc band - The Happy Mondays. Kick off with Kinky Afro, you're welcome
“Your twisting my melon man “
@@charlottemorrison5136 anytime
PLEASE !! react to " the second coming " it was the much anticipated 2nd album and I think the tunes are timeless and some what under appreciated
The disinterested singers was a whole vibe at the start of the 90s - it was called ‘shoe gazing’ 😂 They were all at it.
Lol, the stone roses are not even close to being shoegaze 😂
Happy mondays
Nice video. On UA-cam, somewhere, is a live television performance the Roses attempted before a studio technical failure; Ian Brown's admonishment of the t.v. crew is good for a laugh. Their interviews with the press are entertaining. :)
That’s Cressa. He brings the good vibes.
Tony Wilson was something else.
Tony Wilson (the guy introducing them) mentions that he didn't really like The Stone Roses for 5-6 years until this track from 89. This was largely due to the Roses early stuff lacking in direction and their sound wasn't really good and songs were a little all over the place. As a result they weren't that well known outside of Manchester (where Tony "Mr Manchester" Wilson is from, and he knew the local scene very well, see 24 Hour Party People and Factory Records). However, this all changed when Mani joined the band and brought his influences in and added much needed harmony to the tracks they were doing.
He didnt like them because they were originally signed to thin line records which was owned by the former label manager of factory records and martin hannett who was the former in house producer for factory and a partner in the company. Basically he tried to sabotage the roses due to their involvement with his ex business partners!
Better than Oasis any day.
Best song they ever did, a right banger!
Tony Wilson at the beginning. Mr Manchester. Watch the film about him- 24 hour party people
You need to watch the movie - 24 hour party people
💚💚💚it!
It's nearly summer so we are due a Spencer acoustic concert m8 if you're up for it pal. Let's spread the word 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Here it comes. Or elephant stone, the single version. Either do the official music video or the Blackpool 89 gig.
Saw the other day DAVID BECKHAM saying these guys are his fav band. I personally don't know anything about this band. First time finding about them
Brown had a cameo role in the 2004 film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as a wizard magically stirring his drink while reading Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time at the Leaky Cauldron
The guy in the back is Crezza. Sound engineer /mixing live
He was just a vibes guy like Bez, no greater role.
You think the guy in the grey is “a bit out there” I’m sure by now you know of a guy called”bez”from “the happy Mondays” This guy was “off his tits 24/7!!” 2 songs you must listen to from the same ere. The first titled “shall we take a trip” from band called “Northside” and the second is from Londons answer to the Roses and the Mondays titled “it’s on” from a band called “Flowered up” which was about a drug deal. Both classics from same era. As you would say in the states both these tracks are “fu**ing awesome!!” Enjoy my friends.
If you haven't checked out love spreads or I wanna be adored, especially live that should be on your list. Keep up the awesome reactions. 👍🏿
Hi guys Glastonbury returns this year 22nd-26th june Iknow your busy but wondered if you would like some reaction suggestions from past festivals,

Elbow-One day like this
Cant belive yr reacting to stone roses great Band my favourite os this is the one ...
‘Todays the day she swore to steal what she never could own and race from this hole she calls home’ Love you mum xxx
I think I can hear a synthesiser in the background- the random guy is probably on the synth.
a must reaction to Spike Milligan - Grovelling Bastard, I must have seen Spike's acceptance speach a dozen times and it still makes me cry with laughter. He was one of Britians funniest ever men.
Cool T-Shirt!
If you like the “interpretive dancer” in the background then watch Happy Mondays - Step on. A band member called Bez does something similar 😂
You can't go wrong with Fools gold by TSR if you're after their biggest hit.
Song reminds me of my mum, she carried on through it all, she’s a waterfall..
❤️
Now that's what you call music,I still think you two guys should watch "AC/DC thunderstruck live at the river plate" the Argentine crowd is mental
I went to Spike Island , we got a police escort to the gig. Amazing day out.
Rock n Roll....
The other side of midnight.
It makes me feel like 15 again.
Another great band. Seems a shame that Americans missed out on some great British music for some reason.
1 of my absolute fav bands 🙌🏻 Adored is my fav ✌🏻
You’ve got to do Made of Stone and She Bangs the Drums lads
Magic. Love this song.👍
Edit : Tony Wilson! I miss him on Granada Reports.
And if you like this, try The Courteeners.
Oh yeah. The guy in the grey was probably doing e's. As was the style at the time.
To me the roses were the empitimy of confidence, if u didn't get it then you were missing out..and the songs still seem unmatched to this day
Ian brown can’t sing for toffee 😂
But the Stone Roses are absolutely incredible 👏
If you think grey suit man is on one then you have to see Bez with The Happy Mondays Wrote for Luck (WFL) live in New York. It`s like a work out just watching him. And let`s have it right..... Happy Mondays WERE Madchester.
This was 90s Britain being invented lol. Not surprising that Ian's vocal is so low, he was a NIGHTMARE for sound engineers, always criticising, complaining and falling out with them so it was probably deliberate 😆
The long outro was originally just a freeform jam at the end of one of the takes in the studio that ended up being kept in.
Ian Brown is who Liam Gallagher styled himself after
React to I am the resurrection by the roses. It’ll blow ur soul away
The Seahorses: Blinded by the sun
Gotta put a word in for Driving South by SR - awesome tune! If you like your Led Zep which I believe you guys do 🙂, then you'll love it 👍
Should try listening to the Charlatans, the only one i know or Then absolute classic late 80's early 90s tunes 👌
Guys can you react to The Undertones Teenage Kicks, surprising how few people react to this actual classic.
Would you ever do an album review (stone roses) or that too long lol. The studio/album version of this is great if you haven’t heard it!
Also “tell me” soon :)
Tony Wilson! Hacienda time
Yay a good Manc band( finally) 😄
Please do the interview with IB and NG at the Adidas event, it's pretty cool to have them side by side and it's a cool interview.
The guy is Cressa John squires guitar tech back then
Made in Stone is their best song ......classic!
Ian Brown some lad he is, he went to prison for threatening to cut off an air hostesses hands with a broken vodka bottle then tried to storm the cockpit to complain to the manager.
Real Estate is the closest we can get to Stone Roses these days
Please do "elephant stone" live also awesome with similar vibe
