Thanks Jack! I by no any means do anything video-related professionally, but learning MC has been really fun, and I actually prefer it to Resolve for cutting haha. These videos have been really great!
Hello, thank you for this video. I started with Avid xPress Pro, then HD. xPress Pro was so much simpler back then. I wish it was still around today. I'm trying to figure out how to use the up/down arrows to widen or to make tall the video track or the audio track to add key frames. And/ or make both tracks tall at the same time. I'm not talking about zooming in/out. Thanks.
Hey! To make any track larger or smaller you would enable the tracks in question (on both source and record side) then hit Cmd+L to go bigger and Cmd+K to make them smaller. Or Ctrl if you are on windows. Hopefully that helps but if it's not what you are after just let me know :)
Hey there Jack, love your work! The Smart Tools you show at 14:00 behave differently for me, they only toggle from Both to None whereas what you have shown toggles between Both, None, Red & Yellow. Any suggestions to fix this? It is almost like it is behaving like the ST (Smart Tool Toggle) command.
In the command palette under the "other" tab, can you try dragging and dropping the "add Op Key" function onto the key AFTER you've mapped the trim type/segment mode keys on. Not sure but this might solve it. Checking my own settings now it looks like I may have applied this without realising and that's what's done it.
Hello.Great tutorials. But I do have a question. Should I be able to use the 'add alt key' for every command in the command pallet? I can add commands to my keys and drop the 'add alt key' on the and the black dott appears but the key doesn't work in combination with the alt key.
Not every key will have a function for "Alt" to add to it. It will likely only allow you to put it on to keys that have a specific function when you use it in conjunction with alt/option. Add Edit for example should work with it but Overwrite would be one that likely wouldn't. Doesn't go on every key.
Thanks Jack, I just assigned shorts to TVs and track monitors. Is there a way to export my keyboard settings so that I can use them on other's system ? Tomorrow I have an assignment in college that I have to work on the college's system and I want to use my own keyboard shortcuts on it.
If you go to your settings then the "user" tab, you can export your settings in the drop down menu there to a file location. Export those to a flash drive and then when you go to the other avid, go to the same menu and go file / open settings file. Then go into the settings on the flash drive and open the .xml file and it will bring up all the settings from that user and you can drag and drop the keyboard from there into the user settings of the avid you're using. I do this all the time when I have to create fresh user settings after installing a new version to avid so I can keep my keyboard! If you have trouble with it just let me know and I can post a link to one of the videos where I showed this.
@@theavidassistant Thank you very much Jack. I have exported the user profile, but I have to wait till tomorrow to do the rest of it. Also one question, can't I just "import" the user profile in the other avid ? Please point me to your video Jack.
You can import the profile at the other end but unless it's the exact same computer running the EXACT same OS version then I wouldn't recommend it. With each new version of avid, computer and OS it's strongly recommended to create new user settings to avoid corruption and buggy behaviour. Here's one video that demonstrates how to do it all in the context of updating avid. There's chapter markers too if you want to jump straight to the relevant section. We need to talk about updating Avid! ua-cam.com/video/aWPPx5yj0Tw/v-deo.html
