  • As mentioned in the video here are two links which show which covers are good and which aren't.
    Good one - you can recognize it by having 4 mold ejection marks (not great quality but there is not much slack between 24mm spindle and 25mm bearing) - in my case those work.
    www.ebay.com/i...
    Bad one - you can recognize it by not having ejection marks. Nicely made, better plastic but too much slack between spindle and bearing.
    www.ebay.com/i...
    This parts are available on ebay, Aliexpress...and also by many other sellers not just ones from links.
    I can not guarantee about sellers descriptions and if their photos are correct - in my case it was like that.

    Excellent tutorial friend. I did the same with a shimano press fit box, I mounted the 25377 bearings and they go better than the original shimano since they are double sealed, not on one side like the shimano. They also rotate much more, what they rotate looks like ceramic. use the original plastic caps that you bring for the 6mm bearings, just file them with a file slowly so that they are even and fit the 7mm ones well. I got the axis of the cranks to pass smoothly through the covers and the result was incredible. I have much less resistance to pedaling and I can replace the bearings whenever they break down.

    So actually the plastic sleeves are the failing points of Shimano pressfits and the bearings if they have not got any rust and wear could be salvaged and reused. Good to know!
    I went with Contec Boxfit threading presfit BB for my hardtail and a same one from Willier for my road bike , so that i can change the bearings anytime i like without all the fuss.
    I only wish the body of the bearing cups was stainless steel though and not aluminium cause eventually it will get worn by the harder stainless bearing outer ring.

    You can get 6 mm bearings.

    Great video. Very informative. its striking to see how small the ball bearings are. Probably just over 3mm with gaps..What a contast to the old bottom brackets with loose 11 x 1/4" ball bearings with minimum gap supporting the axle.
    In your video, what size is the plastic pipe fitting? Is it a 40mm socket X 11/4" bsp male adaptor? ABS or PVC?

    I wonder if it would be better to abandon the shimano shells and buy a chinese bottom bracket like a ztto from aliexpress. These shells are already made for the 6805 bearings. When you get the ztto BB, take out the bearings and replace with FAG or NTN high quality bearings.

      Maybe, i did this just to try few things and see what it can be done, and it is still going.
      If the material is good and tolerances are precise on those chinese BBs it could work, but cant say anything bad about Shimano Glass fiber plastic BB

      @@SuperBodul Its a great video Bodul. Until now i had been dumping my BB's. its video's like yours that have got me thinking about how to do better so i really appreciate it. I really like the idea of choosing your own bearings and grease etc. giving you lots of control. I guess we don't know how good the chinese ones are. I was going on the reviews of the ZTTO, and some Russian guys seem to be trying it. I am all for experimentation, so i think i will try it next time (just got a new BB so will take a year to degrade).

      Hi, i am about to do what you suggest now. I am refurbishing an old Shamano BB and putting NTN bearings in it. I gave up the idea of the chinese BB because i don't know the quality and i have the shimano cups already which i know are good. So are the end caps still holding up? Do you think you need a rubber seal between the end cap and the bearings? I live in a wet and cold climate and am about to go into winter so i need it to be well protected.

    • @SuperBodul
      @SuperBodul  3 роки тому +1

      @@stevecarleton163 i live in dry and warm area so i never though about extra seals. Plastic cups are holding well after 3500km, no play with the cranks

      @@SuperBodul At the end of the video you mention the 0.3mm spacer you needed because of the thickness of the shimano vs chinese but you don't show it (probably because its on the bike already). That can't be easy to do.

    Ottima soluzione, volendo con una piccola fresa si può eliminare quello scalino di 1 mm nel tappo copri cuscinetto, ma si dev'essere molto bravi 👍

    by doing so, does the plastic fitting contacts the outer sleeve of the bearing as well? If so, it will cause additional frictional forces.

    • @SuperBodul

      6mm thick version is non-standard, you can buy them i think but not from SKF, NTN, FAG or other premium brands - they only sell 7mm standard version. 6mm are originale made by sunhill for shimano, and you can find chinese and indian copies online but I wanted legit pemium ones so went with FAG which I found localy

    • @SuperBodul
      @SuperBodul  Рік тому +1

      I bought expander ring in the store that sells bearings and car parts. I bought 26, 27, and 28mm versions not knowing which one which one will fit best - I think it is the 27mm at the end used to extract bearing. There are specific bearing extractor tools out there but this is much cheaper. Other things I already had around my workshop. Didnt even bought the plastic pipe piece, i just know it is used for pool plumbings.
