If you want to simply change out the headlight bulb and not replace the whole thing, simply loosen the two bolts on the headlight assembly so that you can reach your hand in to switch out the bulb (wear gloves) I did my driver side in less than 5 minutes.
For the passenger side you might need to take out the air box

You said they were test bulbs and you pulled them out and put them right back in. Then put the headlight assembly and the grill and bumper back on. To just take everything back off again and then put the real light bulbs in?
